Description of Work: Mostly just talked on the phone. Must have been a dozen calls or more. He first stated that he was sick and would have to meet us the next week. He mentioned that he needed to see if we could work together. Called back several times to ask questions about our planned project and a couple of times to change the day or time to meet then just decided to send his cabinet guy out. Every time he called he would talk a blue streak. His cabinet guy came out looking like he was on his way to the beach (wife was out waiting in car). In the end they said there was no way they could do our kitchen for our stated amount ( was pretty sure it could be done when we talked on phone) He ended up saying he thought we said we wanted to spend 120,000 instead of the $20, 000 we mentioned. By that time my husband was just glad to be rid of him.

Response from DMV Kitchen & Bath
I would simply like to respond by saying yes I was suffering from a severe cold when this potential Client called.Yes I definitely misunderstood the budget amount if I was clear that the budget was 20k for a complete Kitchen Renovation including new cabinetry, moving walls, New granite countertops, and backsplash I would have been very clear from the beginning that this could not be done for $20,000. That was the reason for the initial questions on the first phone call .Yes I did send my Carpender there to view their kitchen and offer them some free advice. I'm not sure about the comment that he looked like he was going to the beach I don't know that that really matters he's an excellent kitchen master. I'd also like to mention that when I misunderstood them on the budget which I heard 120 K I told them that it could be done for a lot less at that point they never told me their budget was 20,000. Thank you

We wanted to share our experience with Dean Fridy of DMVCabinets, DVM Kitchen and Bath, DVM, because we felt it was a case in which Angie?s List greatly let us down. We were very unhappy with the overall experience as referenced below: Dean came to our house and talked about the many things his crews would be doing to remodel our bathroom and all the things he said sounded wonderful. However, when the actual work was done, many of the things he told us would be done, were not. And the process of completing the work became a nightmare. He said this ?easy? job was to take seven to ten days. It took close to forty. He removed and discarded our elongated potty telling us he would move the commode back to ensure a new one would fit. When it came time to move it per his suggestion, he said that we should not do that as it would involve jackhammering the slab and cost him too much. None of the new elongated potties would fit. We now have a round potty that we do not like. He never measured anything and his tile installer ran out of tile. Dean apologized and ordered more asking us to pay. We were aware that we were to pay for the tile. When we received the tile invoice, however, we noticed we?d unknowingly paid fifty bucks for overnight freight. When they ran out of tile a second time, he paid for it, but did not pay for overnight freight, and we had three-day delay. He really had no painter, so different men would come to do the painting, once staying till 9:00 on a weeknight. When we signed the contract with him, he told us his price was ?firm.? A few days into the job, he called saying that he couldn?t remember if he had included the amount for the shower door ($950) in the bid or not. We told him he had included it as we spoke with the shower glass door installer on the phone as we sat around the table prior to signing the contract. He wanted to know if we would be ?willing to help him out? since he had ?forgotten.? He wanted everything to be ?fair.? We wanted him to honor his contract. Now we were very uncomfortable with him. He asked us (my wife) to go and pick up various items needed for the job including the initial plumbing fixtures (which included a toilet he helped us pick out that would not fit), the paint (which he was to pay for but we ended up paying for), and then the second toilet (which was round) which was needed because of his error in ordering the first one. He told us the ?ugly? transition piece connecting our bedroom and bathroom would be replaced with one that was hardly noticeable. They put the original one back. He told us they would replace our ?old and loud? vent fan. They just vacuumed out the old one. They raised the shower slab about three inches, but did not raise the height of the showerhead. The plumbing was supposedly inspected, but we have yet to receive the certificate. We smelled a strong sewer odor intermittently after the new toilet was installed. The plumber was called. He sent out his helper who said he smelled nothing but told us they could do a smoke test for $350. We called and paid another plumber who came out and reset the potty. We haven?t smelled the odor since. He ordered the wrong paint putting satin where flat should have been and vice versa. He also ordered 3x as much as was needed. Things got so bad that we finally stopped speaking on the phone with him and communicated by text messages only. We made the first check out to him personally. We made the final check out to his company, DMV. For some reason, he was unable to cash it and asked for one made out to his name. Meanwhile we were waiting on a reimbursement for the returned elongated potty that would not fit. The entire experience made us never want to have anything else remodeled in our house. It left us extremely tired, mentally worn out, and disgusted. We feel he lacked the knowledge and expertise to bid, organize, and run this job, which he kept referring to as ?easy.? We are just glad it is over. We would not use him again for any remodel work and would not recommend him to any other Angie?s List subscriber.
The workmanship was excellent! We are pleased with the results.

We want to commend Dean Fridy of DMV Countertops for the professional guidance and responsible recommendations he provided to address a difficult remodeling job with our kitchen island at a fair and reasonable price point. Further, the work crews consisting of fabrication, installation, & carpentry/ ducting & utility were most courteous and highly competent craftsmen. They installed and completely cleaned up after their work was finished. Dean was instrumental in professionally managing the entire process and all communications were clear and timely. He is now working on our half bath remodel. We would highly recommend Dean Fridy to anyone requiring a professional & highly competent installation of a kitchen or bath remodel.

It was a fantastic experience with DMV! They saved me a huge amount of time and money by purchasing materials directly from the supplier, but using their business discount. DMV really went above and beyond to protect our floors and belongings from construction traffic and minimized the inevitable dust. There was a daily clean-up and debris removal. We had such a good time that we're ready to start on the next project.

Dean met with my wife and myself and went over what he would do. Dean gave us a proposal and before we accepted he brought the person over to meet us. Meeting with Dean and Victor; we felt DMV was the right company to do the work in our house. The job was started on time and finished as scheduled. Upon completion the areas worked on were left extremely clean. Dean spent time with us to not only to explain the process but to make sure everything was up to our expectations. We highly recommend DMV!!!!!!!!!!!

We had $25,000 worth of bath remodeling work done. It involved a new design for the kitchen island and tying in existing floor tile in the bathroom with all new bath fixtures and tile surrounds. Dean uses very capable and trustworthy contractors and introduces each one to the homeowner in advance. He follows up with each sub-contractor's work to make sure the work was done properly. He finished off the job by having our tile floors professionally cleaned after the dusty work. It was much appreciated..

The process was handled by Dean Fridy. Dean did a great job keeping us informed of every aspect of the process. Dean was very patient as we changed our minds on the backsplash a couple of times. The workers showed up on time and kept to the time line. Scott, the foreman for the job was very helpful with the process and also completed some extra jobs for us. The process went very smooth and we are very pleased with the work provided.

My phoned inquiry was treated almost disdainfully. They not only failed to give a price, they even failed to indicate whether they could drill the hole as specified. They asked several questions of the "what are you doing this for?" variety, then gave no hard information on what was involved in this job. Not rude, just unhelpful.

I would like to respond briefly. This caller wanted us to drill a hole on a job that we did not install. I conveyed that I was not comfortable drilling a hole on material that was installed by someone else. for the simple reason if any damage occurred we would be responsible.IMO The caller was upset for that simple response. Thank You

Working with Dean Fridy from beginning to end was a pleasure. Dean personally oversaw every aspect of the job. He and his workers were there when he said they would be there and did what he said they would do. His attention to detail was outstanding. He provided several selections of granite and backsplash and made recommendations based on complementing existing color schemes in the kitchen. His recommendations were spot on. The very nature of kitchen remodeling is disruptive and messy. Dean scheduled each phase of the job as to provide as little disruption as possible. He stressed to his workers to make as little mess as possible and that no mess was to be left as the end of the day. As an example, any cuts that needed to be made in the granite inside were made and followed by a vacuum so as no dust or debris got in the kitchen. From start to finish, Dean inspected each and every facet to assure all was completed to his high standards. If you are looking for a kitchen or bath renovation and want it done professionally, on time, and reasonably priced, I would give Countertops by DMV and Dean Fridy a call.

We did not use this company for our remodel but when considering contractors we had an opportunity to see some work done by DMV. We viewed a bathroom remodel done by DMV and the work was beautiful. A lot of attention was given to details in the work we saw. We had some scheduling issues which is why the C for punctuality and professionalism.
Description of Work: We were in the process of looking for a contractor to do some kitchen remodeling and interviewed several contractors. DMV did not perform sercices and this review is based on work we viewed that was done by the company.

Marble Overall we are very pleased. The repairs do not "look like" repairs. The color match on the replaced marble was excellent. We would definitely use his services again.Frank HartkeNassau Bay, tx
Description of Work: We needed to repair and replace some of the marble in the shower in the Master bath room. Some of the marble had stained over the years and some of it was coming off of the wall . Dean agreed to match the color (Did an excellent job of color matching) remove and replace several pieces of the marble. He and his crew worked together to provide an efficient, timely repair. The were all courteous, cleaned after their work, and were on-time with all schedules. Dean provided a clear, written estimate for the job. His price was fair and we are very pleased with his work.Frank Hartke Nassau Bay, tx
