David Weekley Homes June 23, 2010 First Construction Meeting, 1:00pm Kevin O?Kelly (construction) & Brandon Marshall (sales) July 17: The concrete pad is poured. The floor electrical outlet in the study has been located wrong, within inches of the adjacent wall and 4 feet from the correct location. July 21: Brandon will remove the cost of the floor electrical outlet in the study. No floor electrical will be installed in the study. July 24: Windows are in. Roof is on and shingled. Plumbing is in. Gas pipe to dryer is in with on/off valve. Gas pipe has been run to the kitchen (no on/off valve), odd that this material and work has been supplied considering we did not opt to have the expense of a gas line to the kitchen. Anchor bolts located along the outer walls in several locations fall off or nearly fall off the sill plate. At the center of the back door there is anchor bolt that has been bent over. This anchor bolt should not have been located in the middle of a door. The bolt should be cut off and ground flush. July 30: I wrote an email to Kevin and Brandon that Lori and I wanted the security wire located in the master bedroom pulled through the drywall, prior to installing the drywall (a very small hole not much larger than the wire would have been required) so that our security company would not have to punch a hole in the drywall and fish for the wire. July 31: Upon our visit we found the drywall up and plasters at the house working very hard. We also found that the security wire was not pulled through the drywall as we had asked or hoped that it would be. Aug 08: When visiting the home we noticed the front window frame at the bottom of the window extremely out of level where previously the window frames were plumb and level. The windows would not even close properly and required a good deal of force to lower the window. When lowered the window did not seal and had a gap in excess of 0.5? on either side. We can only speculate what happen and believe the windows suffer from the installation of the brick. Prior to the installation of the brick the front windows were fine, easy to open and close without any gap at the bottom. The laundry room door opened inward and would hit the washer and dryer. Kevin will reverse the door so that the door will open outward. The patch applied to the in-floor electrical plug located in the study has been patched. There remains a low or shallow point in the patch. We have asked that another coat of filler be applied to level off the floor. The second coat was never applied as promised. The low point can still be felt in the floor. Aug 09: The bricks forming the outside sill of the front windows have been removed, most likely as a means to determine what caused the two front windows to warp. Aug 12: Called Brandon?s cell phone asking if the project manager signed the home contract and if the contract had been sent to our home financer. As of this morning Aug 16, Brandon has not returned my call. My message to Brandon included the issue with the home windows and that all windows will have to be checked. Aug 14: Visited the home site about 3pm. All the windows in the home would not operate properly. The windows would not close and latch and excessive force was needed to open and close the windows. This is a real issue since the drywall and trim has been installed. All windows should have been checked for operation prior to installing drywall with a final check of window operation once the trim has been installed. Trim work, one of the most important parts of a home is a mess, absolutely substandard construction. Gouges, poor quality wood, misfit joints and small patches of trim have been used in highly visible locations. Trim has been split from nailing and has been left in place. Overall the trim work is an inferior quality of workmanship, displaying lack of pride and craftsmanship. Where the laundry room door was reversed the door has been gouged in (4) places. Excessive nails have been placed in the trim. Workplace cleaning is non-existing and does not meet the David Weekley Portfolio standards of cleanliness. This has been on going since starting construction. I have personally picked up nails and screws from the road and driveway every visit we have made. Excessive damage to the drywall also displays a lack of respect and consideration of work performed by others as well as personal property. With a little care damage would be minimized. The patch made to the floor in the study covering the floor electrical has not yet be leveled. Aug 17: All the windows in the home are an issue with closing. The front bedroom window has been dented where someone attempting to push the latch into the frame to forcefully close the window. Aug 18: At 3pm we met with Kevin and Brandon to go over the windows and damages done to the walls, laundry room door, and the poor quality of the trim work. Both Brandon and Kevin ensured us that everything would be either repaired or replaced. The front bedroom window is still bowed and when asked what was wrong Kevin informed us that the cripple stud under the window was cut wrong and was cut shorter. Understandably the window fitting and working are a major concern to both Lori and I. It is a shame that good money has been spent on windows that have been so mishandled. Clearly this could not have been the case, first the framing of the wall would not allow a long stud to fit, and if this was the case the window would not have fit the frame work. It was appreciated that Kevin offered an explanation regardless of how wrong it was. If time is taken to think about what Kevin offered vastly more would come to mind confirming what Kevin offered as an explanation just does not work. Aug 21: The security wire that was pulled in the master bedroom has been pushed back into the wall. This will have to be fished back out. Repair work on the poorly done trim has been started some of the work is still very poorly done with more damage than repair. The original walkway from the driveway was torn out and a new walkway that loops and meets the front porch elevation has been installed, again added work that should have been done right the first time. Both front bedroom windows are being worked on to correct the bowing problem. This is an ongoing issue and a real concern for Lori and I. The integrity of the windows has been compromised by the poor workmanship from the beginning right up to the repair. Aug 25: Windows have been worked on but the two front windows are not right. The trim under the left front window has been replaced but not the sill that is split. The master bath had a hole cut in the wall for a medicine cabinet ever since the drywall was installed. Now the hole has been patched. The patch is yet another repair job and display of poor project management and communication, what a total disappointment. Sept. 06: There is now a flex connection on the gas pipe in the kitchen. We did not upgrade with DWH to a gas stove. The front bedroom windows are still not right. There is a low point in the back yard that will pool with water. The finish on the kitchen cabinets has been damaged. Foot prints from workers boots have been left on the cabinets. How foot prints got on cabinets can only be a speculation, possibly the cabinets were used as a stepping stool to extend the reach of a working when installing the cabinets, a complete indication of lack of respect for the homeowner and the property. Oct. 07: Inspected the home with Brandon, Kevin was unable to attend. Two major issues, one that has been on going but ignored by DWH is the front windows not being installed and working properly. The second issue is the back door not installed properly and possibly has a camber to the inside of the house. Findings after moving in: The garage door is not installed properly. This is a joke, is the garage door the first ever installed by DWH. The garage door key pads (for your auto) are not the proper key pads. Again is this the first time DWH has supplied key pads to home owners. The thermostat will not allow you to increase the heat temperature over 68F. The cabinets my wife wanted, the ones with a pull out draw. Once the pots and pans were placed on the draw the draw dropped and now has to be lifted in order to pull the draw out of the cabinet. The master bath mirror was to be framed, it?s not. The phone jack is smack up against the kitchen counter and there is no possible way to hang a phone, totally useless. The carpet in the living room is poorly installed and falling apart. We met with the warranty manager. She took a list of items and was promised to get moving on them. It?s been almost three months and nothing has happened. At this point I am tired of all the mistruths, ignorant individuals, lack of respect and abuse. Bottom line it?s all my fault for believing and trusting in David Weekley, shame on me.

Working with a large builder was very convenient and reasonably priced ($/sqft). The work seemed to drag on a bit over schedule but it was eventually finished. The superintendent made sure that every problem that we had was corrected. Using their BYOL division allowed for a lot more customized options than would be offered in a subdivision home. All in all it was a good experience.
Description of Work: They built a house for us through their build-on-your-own-lot (BYOL) division. They demolished our old home and built a new one in it's place all for one price. The new house was a 2 story 3300 sqft 4/3.5/2 with a detached garage. Options/upgrades are picked out at their design center on Hwy290. The process took about 11 months from the time the initial contract was signed to the time we had keys. Actual construction time took approx 7-8 months.

Incredible! One phone call to Denise (who handles warranty work), and we had a new roof a week later! The crew was very hard working and did a great job, completing it in one day. I did a complete check in the attic during the next hard rain and everything was dry. Denise then called a week after it was completed to ensure we were satisfied. What more could we ask for?
Description of Work: David Weekly built our house in 1996. Over the past few years we have had chronic problems with the roof leaking, shingles blowing off, etc., and were calling roofing companies regular for patch repairs. We had just decided to replace the whole roof (est. $9,000), when we noticed a neighbor having his roof re-done. I stopped and talked with him and found out that it was still under warranty and that David Weekly was fixing it free. Duh - I had not even thought to check the warranty! Anyway, only months before our 10-year new house warranty expired, they replaced the entire roof because of the chronic problems we had experienced.
