I have been ripped off by David Hicks Plumbing twice. The first time they replaced bathroom fixtures that didn't need to be replaced. I wrote that off as an honest mistake. The second time I asked them to literally buy the right hose and hook up a washing machine when they were at my house doing other work. $549.77 later had put in new plumbing to "get things up to code." The City had just had an authorized contractor replace the plumbing they tore out. The City did this as part of a drainage line replacement to take drainage from the back of the property to the front. When I complained about the work and the bill, David Hicks told me to talk to his employee that did the work. The employee wouldn't return my messages. When I called David Hicks, he said I would have to meet the employee at my house and the employee would call me to set up a time. The employee didn't call. I called again to say his employee never called, he callously stood by the fact the work was done to take the plumbing up to code. When I asked him to come out and show me why the City's work, some of which the employee left in place wasn't at code, he told me I would have to talk to the employee. When I asked to see the permits they got from the City, required if work was being done to take the plumbing up to code, he got really nervous and explained they typically don't get permits. This puts the liability for code violations on his customers, as the work they do is not inspected by the City. When I pointed this out, he told me he would get back to me, By get back to me, he apparently meant send me another invoice with finance charges. I paid to ensure this didn't affect my credit report. 8/25/2013 I have been ripped off by David Hicks Plumbing twice. The first time they replaced bathroom fixtures that didn't need to be replaced. We have used Hicks Plumbing for many years and have never had a bad experience with them. We called to have a wax ring for a toilet replaced. When Mike removed the toilet, he discovered one of the bolts that hold the tank on was badly rusted and would have failed in the near future, causing a catastrophic leak. He not only replaced the wax ring and the rusted bolt but also removed the excess caulk that the tile installer had slathered on the toilet. Mike is a talented and consumate professional with a warm engaging personality. I will only use Hicks for my plumbing needs.

The plumber came out as scheduled and met with my wife. He examined a lot of possibilities, made a few adjustments, and decided that the problem was a blockage in the galvanized pipes. We were charged for the service call and for a few parts. He told us that he would get back with a quote to replace the pipe, since his adjustments had not fixed the problem. That was the last we heard from David Hicks. My wife called twice to follow up, and I also left a phone message. I also sent an e-mail asking them to contact me to give us a price to actually fix the problem. We received no response from them, even though my wife did speak directly with them. It was not a crisis, since we don't use that bathroom much, and the rest of the water worked. The original service call was in November, and it is now April, and we have hired another company to fix the problem. As of today, the other plumbers have replaced the problem pipe and the faucet works great. In my opinion if a plumber comes out to fix a problem and neither fixes the problem nor gives you an estimate of what it will take to fix the problem, they have failed. The only reason that I did not rate the overall experience as an F was that we have had good experience with David Hicks in the past.
Description of Work: I am sad and frustrated that I need to write this poor review. We had a faucet that was not working properly, it would only let out a trickle of water.

Everything went smoothly. The plumber arrived, and cleaned out the kitchen line in a few minutes. It only took a very few minute after that to inspect and re-adjust the tank of the bathroom toilet.
Description of Work: The kitchen sink line was cleaned out with a snake. In addition, the plumber corrected a misalignment of the tank on the toilet which had been repaired during a previous visit.

They were prompt and professional and I will be loyal to them as long as we live here!
Description of Work: We have used DHP several times. They have always come the day we called and they have always been very professional and done a thorough and complete job. Last two service calls were as follows: 1) We had a powder room toilet that we causing the powder room to smell horribly. At first I thought the cat had used the room as a litter box but could never find evidence of it. It just kept getting worse and worse. Finally called DHP and a plumber came out and said, "I think it is just the caulking of the toilet to the floor that needs to be redone." He was her about 5 minutes, did the caulking and would not accept any payment because he said " If that's all it was, it was no trouble and if that isn't the problem hopefully, you will call us back." I really appreciated that. Not too many folks like that anymore. And it did completely fix the problem. 2) A water line to our city water meter was leaking and our water bill was outrageous. DHP came the same day as I called and was here within aoub 3 hours. They showed me the leak and had it fixed within about 2 hours. The plumber was polite and friendly and did a great job. No additional problems. They charged me $200. My neighbor had a similar but more involved problem and ended up paying about 5 times that.

Fast and easy. I called at 8:05 and they were here, same day, by 9:53. Total service took 1.5hr. Same day service is probably unusual but I was lucky.
Description of Work: Fixed leaking tank to bowl gasket and also reamed out kitchen drain that would repeatedly clog. I had not mentioned the clogged drain as at the time it was working but while Jason was working on the toilet problem I was able to reproduce the problem in the kitchen. He had to go get the reamer.

This was not an easy job. I had 6 other plumbing companies come out to a**** the problem and to give out estimates. David Hicks Plumbing came out and immediately gave the right diagnosis. Ryan was the master plumber we worked with. He was always on time, very honest, and very professional. Hopefully I won't have any more plumbing issues, but if I do, I will for sure be a repeat customer. I highly recommend this company and Ryan in particular. They definitely know how to treat their customers the right way. Its tough to find a good plumber with prices that don't put a giant hole in your wallet but I believe David Hicks Plumbing is the way to go

Jason is a great, no-nonsense plumber. He knows what he's doing, and he gives you an honest assessment. This is the fifth time that I have used him, and I now think of him as my regular plumber. On two of these occasions - when I consulted him about getting a new water heater, and a bizarre noise in my waste disposal system -- he told me that I really didn't need any repair or replacement. So I had confidence that he would find and fix the source of the water damage quickly and efficiently. I feared that the repair would be far time consuming than it actually turned out to be. It took Jason and his assistant about an hour and a half. I am a very satisfied repeat customer of David Hicks plumbing!
Description of Work: Jason cut out the drywall in my ceiling at the center of a water- damaged area, diagnosed the source of the problem as a leaking toilet that had not been reset properly after new tile was installed in the bathroom. He went and purchased what he needed to build up the toilet to the level of the tile, reset the toilet, and caulked the base.

What an unsatisfactory experience! My job required coordination with other contractors, so timing and reliability was critical. This was explained repeatedly to office personnel (who were courteous and seemed to understand, but who were ultimately ineffective). On the date the service was to have been provided, the plumber was a no-show at appointment time, resulting in my general contractor's being paid to stand around and wait. Finally, 2 hours later, I received a phone call from the plumber telling me that he would arrive "sometime after lunch". When I explained that this was unacceptable, he asked for another chance. I rescheduled for the following day. The next day, he was 40 minutes late and when he arrived, he did not have the necessary assistance to do the job. Though he was courteous, I asked that he just leave. Luckily, I was able to find another plumber in the eleventh hour to do the work. It was a 10 hour job.
Description of Work: The service which was to have been provided was the replacement of 2 main water lines. This required the removal of my ceiling by my contractor prior to the initiation of plumbing work.

I did not really have problems with them, although, I did have to redo some of the stuffs. Some of the connection that they did at the top of the water heater, eventually started leaking, so, I had to get another company to fix that. They used some metals that were not good, so, I also had to get those replaced. When the new company came they also told me that the valve that was used was not new.

The PVC pipes for the shower faucet, as well as the P-trap, were installed very well (high quality). However, I would rate the shower pan installation lower. While there was nothing grossly wrong (and certainly everything met code), the craftsmanship was not as one would expect for the price they charged. For example, the 2" x 12" sections they cut to place in between the studs were cut horribly (too short, too long, unsquare cuts, etc.). This complaint may seem a little ridiculous to some since the 2" x 12" sections will never be seen, but the sections and overlaying shower pan lining were installed in such a way that it was impossible to lay tile in a square and plumb fashion. I spent a non-trivial amount of time fixing this problem. In the future, I would probably only hire David Hicks Plumbing to do tasks that are strictly plumbing tasks (e.g. installation of a stopper valve, water heater installation) but would not hire them for something like a leaky pipe inside a wall.

This company is pretty fair on their prices and punctual for routine repairs. We did have a problem with the last service for a clogged drain where on two separate service calls the plumbers failed to check the clean out drain on the outside of the house. They even ripped open my sheetrock to inspect the pipes. After I inquired as to the clean out drain, the second plumber removed the clog in five minutes. The company was not helpful in adjusting the bill after I complained so I took my business elsewhere.

The office was helpful in scheduling - I was busy that week and had to reschedule at least once but they were good about moving the time around for me. The serviceman came out on time and was professional and pleasant. It was not a complicated job but it was a little tricky because the clog was further down the line than is typical, so it was a while before it became clear what was wrong. He considered his options carefully before proceeding.
