We had a great experience with Chavez Plumbing. Julio, the owner, did the work. He arrived promptly, was very professional, and cleaned the toilet afterward. He also gave us advice on other, better quality toilets. He charged less than the estimate over the phone. We will definitely recommend his company to other people!

The company did an excellent job. The call was on a Saturday for an emergency pipe leak in my attic. They arrived in 40 minutes from the call. Julio Chavez was the plumber. He was professional and friendly. He went to work right away and had the leak repaired in about 1 hour. I have used Chavez Plumbing on three other occasions and they always do excellent work at reasonable prices. I also asked for estimates on some additional work I was considering beyond the repair and I was pleased with Mr. Chavez's recommendations.

The techs were there for about 4 hours. They sent 2 techs. The techs were very nice and got their jobs done. They divided the smaller jobs up seperately, then worked together on the larger job so the entire job took less time. I was pleased about that.
Description of Work: They installed a garbage disposal and they changed out a shower head. They also fixed a leak in the attic. They hooked up a water line to my fridge so I could use my icemaker.

Everything seem to be fine but hot water heater was not lighting again within 12 hours. They bypassed the air gap on kitchen sink because they said it was not required in Houston anymore. I do not know if it is true or not. I called back and they said the water heater would probably have to be replaced and they gave me a price LESS the initial $ 185.00 plus the 10% from Angie's List discount. I had already priced a new water heater from (2) other places --(not thru Angie's List) and they were about double the price.

First job was initially quoted too high and then we negotiated down. The clamp repair, which took him maybe 10 minutes was just way too expensive. The next time I did it myself after learning what to do.
Description of Work: We used Chavez 3 times in 2012. We have galvanized pipe in an old house and they repaired two leaks. For the first they replaced a T intersection with copper, and later put a clamp around a pipe to stop a pin hole leak.

Providers were prompt and professional. After calling them, they told me they'd be at my house the next day between 10:30 and noon. As promised, they showed up right on time. I showed them the two problems we were having, and within 10 minutes they had diagnosed both problems and recommended simple (and cheap!) solutions. The leaky bathtub was due to a lack of caulk around the faucet plate - easy. The low water pressure in the other shower was due to sediment buildup in the shower head. I was especially worried about this issue because I had been told by another plumber that the problem was due to the galvanized pipes in my house becoming restricted, and that I needed to have my whole house re-piped. Chavez did confirm that the galvanized pipes were ultimately the cause (and I would need to replace them if I wanted to fix things permanently,) but then they did was I was hoping for - they fixed the immediate problem with a simple and cheap solution: they simply unscrewed the shower head and cleaned out the sediment that was in it. The shower now works perfectly! All said and done, they were finished in less than 45 minutes, and I had a bill that was substantially less than I was expecting! I would definitely recommend them to others!

The plumbing crew came within an hour of being called. They quickly diagnosed the problem and had all of the parts to fix it with them. They fixed it within another 30-45 min and it hasn't leaked in a year. They were very nice and professional. I would definitely call them if you need a plumbing repair.

Explained all about galvanized pipes. showed me where he would need to cut to replace the entire plumbing which will need to be done at some point. He was very courteous and took his time explaining things. I asked him about the water pressure in one bathroom and he changed out the part where the water was clogged. I had just removed and cleaned and put back but he showed me where the plastic piece currently in place had such tiny holes it was not functioning properly. He replaced it with a new one. I would highly recommend using his services and hope I don't need to in the future.
Description of Work: I don't know how much the services performed should/would have cost with another plumber. I called several and one was going to charge a trip fee of $150 which would not even apply toward services performed. Mr. Chavez came late on a Saturday afternoon. He did not charge a trip fee. He found the leaks without punching holes in my ceilings, cut and replaced old/new pipes. Showed me the old pipes and how rusted and corroded they were. One piece of pipe was about 7 inches, the other several feet.

My main problem with them was the price, which I felt was way too high. They also gave me an estimate to hook up the pool heater for $850, while it was done by another company for $360.
Description of Work: Called them out to give me a price on hooking up pool heater-cost $65 for visit. Estimate sky high but they recommended I have the gas company install the gas line and then call them back, which I did. Before the gas company had finished, I had an unrelated leak in the outside plumbing, and a problem with one commode. They came out briefly one evening and turned off the water. They returned and repaired both of these, but the bill was $700, which I thought was very high. When the outside repair was done, the plumber kept replacing small pieces, then discovering that there was still a leak and replacing another piece, a total of 4 times. I felt that it would have taken much less time if he had recognized earlier that a longer segment of pipe was faulty. They came back 3 times to get the toilet right and then told me I just needed a new commode.

We had a leak outside the home which the City of Houston should have repaired while we were out of the country. After too much back and forth with the city, Chavez came out, fixed the leak and inspected the neighbors lines to make sure everything was good. They were very prompt and fair. My neighbors are impressed and now have their numbers on hand. As well as my father - who has done plumbing himself - was thoroughly impressed with their professionalism and honesty in trying to make everything right.

It started off really well, they were very responsive and the price they quoted for the gas line relocation was pretty good. They charged a $65 fee to come give an estimate but I knew about it and it was applied against my total. They pulled the permit with the City of Bellaire and scheduled the inspector, made it very easy. But whenever the inspector came I received a call from the plumber that the exhaust duct for one of my water heaters was too short and that it would cost $325 to replace it. I was in a difficult position because I was at work and needed to get the inspection done that day to get my gas back on so I took them at their word and approved the duct replacement. Then when I got home I found that the duct had not been replaced, they only added a 2-foot extension to the top of the duct. I called Chavez Plumbing and asked them about this and they told me they replaced the duct. Then when I told them I'd go take pictures and send them (because the duct had original paint spots on it) they called me back and said there was a misunderstanding and that they only did an extension. I then asked why I was still being charged $325 for $6 in materials and 10 minutes of labor and Mr. Chavez told me that he gave me a good deal on the gas line so I should be happy. He refused to give me a lower price even though they didn't do what they told me they were going to do. Like I said, it started off well enough but I wouldn't use these guys again.

I called and the owner was here within the hour. I showed him the problem and he went around the outside of the house (in the rain) looking for the cleanout. There was no cleanout so he said that he could go down through the vent on the roof. He called out a couple of other employees and they got up on the roof (in the rain!) and ran the auger down the vent pipe. When they pulled it back out, the drains were tested and everything was running fine. From the time I made the call until the work was finished was just under 2 hours!

I only spoke with them to set up an appointment to install a gas line to a new gas range. Very simple since there is a gas line to the hot water tank in the garage on the back side of where the range is located. They wouldn't give me any kind of estimate except that I must spend $65 for a service call in order to get an estimate. She couldn't give me a range of estimate. So instead she said that if the gas line is already installed the cost to connect the new range to an existing gas line is $280. WOW!!!! Are they kidding! I said I was willing to pay a service call if I could get a general range of the cost - $200, $500, $1000??? That's when she suggested that I call a different company if I wasn't willing to pay the service call. That's when I said OK and hung up. I waited over a day for someone to respond after I originally called. Their phone system does not take messages, I could only send them an email from their website.

2 Technician showed up, one was more of a translator for the other. Looked at my shower for 1 minute and told me that I would need to remove the entire thing and replace the shower pan below (major construction). Told me they would respond with a quote for removing the shower, etc. I didn't really feel great about the recommendation, knowing it would easily be $1500 minimum just to remove, so I called another provider for a 2nd opinion the same day. He came out and told me exactly what to do to - which was a great temporary fix (and something I would only need to do every 3-4 years). Cost me $50 to buy the supplies he suggested and PROBLEM SOLVED. Chavez technicians did not have the level of expertise I was hoping for. Also, took them over a week to respond with a quote (that I no longer needed). Second opinion saved me thousands of dollars.

When we called for an estimate they were able to come out that day and then scheduled us for service the following day. The owner personally came out to give the estimate and told us they could teach us what to do rather than coming back to fix it (which we chose not to do). They were ontime or early for both appointments. They had to cut through the wall in the second bathroom to get to the pipe. They put back the section of the wall so there wasn't a big hole and then rehung the mirror we had taken down so they could do the work. They reused parts that were able to be fixed rather than throwing them out. The work area was very clean when they were through. We will definitely call them again for any plumbing needs and won't even think about getting estimates from others.

They were very responsive and professional. They even laid down materials to protect my carpet. .When they arrived they discovered an additional piece that needed to be replaced. So, they finished the inside work based on my schedule, went to get the parts and equipment needed and returned to complete the outside work. We appreciated the professionalism of the entire crew. We would recommend and use them again.
