Usually, the two most important questions you want to be answered are… What’s wrong? …And… How much is it going to cost? At Luke's Plumbing, we don’t have a problem giving you a price over the phone. Many Houston homeowners who call us are frustrated because they have called other Houston plumbing service companies and have gotten a run-around when it came to getting a price. It is sad to admit that our industry is plagued with plumbers who intentionally will not give you a price or even a ballpark estimate over the phone because they want to get in your home where they can pressure you face to face into spending more than you should. One of the highest numbers of complaints to consumer protection agency is for home improvement and service companies.. Plumbing license: MPL 37466. A/C license: TACLB 53102E. Team Jason and Dustin showed up to replace my commode. They are a friendly bunch, professional and were able to do the work I hired to do. I'm a satisfied customer. Thanks, Budget.
Description of Work: Replace commode. Since the Delta commode that the previous contractor bought did not match the spec we had to make a trip to Home Depot to return it and bought a Standard brand commode that fits the spec.

Last week, they sent two men to give us an estimate for water heater repairs. They didn't ask us to turn on any faucets to test it, nor did they open the water heater itself. They looked at the outside of the heater and told us it was too small for our house. They quoted us about $6500 to replace it with a larger one. This week, we asked another company to send someone. After testing the water heater and checking the error code, they removed a mud wasp nest from the intake. The system works great, and we only had to pay for two hours of their time.
Description of Work: We needed repairs on a tankless water heater that would intermittently stop heating our water.

Everything went well despite the difficulties encountered with the removal of the old water heater (awkward location in a small utility area that was very wet). Anthony with Budget Home Services, Fairbanks North Houston location, was extremely knowledgeable, answered all questions thoroughly and patiently and installed my new water heater and made sure everything was correct. Some items needed to be brought up to code (as I live in an older home), and this was done during the installation procedure as well. I cannot recommend Budget Home Services enough! We will only use this company for our home services as they arise. They are prompt, professional, and courteous plus....they have great product knowledge and expertise! Highly recommend!

Had a clamp on the leaky pipe, so no emergency existed. I contacted Budget for quote on Monday, price was much better than two other plumbers had quoted, including the one that attached the clamp. Plumbers arrived the next morning as scheduled, quickly and professionally replaced the section with the leak. All done with a minimum of delay or inconvenience. I would not hesitate to recommend Budget Home Services to friends or neighbors. They also quoted me on replacing all the old galvanized pipe, or as an alternate, just the horizontal sections. This may be necessary in the future, since all our pipe is original, from 1976.

Everything went well. I called early morning of 6.17.13, and the plumber arrived around 10 a.m. They were professional and courteous. The only downside was that they had to charge the $97.50 fee for coming out, which I wasn't too disappointed about because it was an education on how water heaters work. We'll know next time!
Description of Work: Pilot on gas water heater would not light. My husband and I tried lighting the pilot according to the instructions with no success. Budget Home Services came out and explained that there is a reset button that needed to be pressed before trying to light the pilot.

This was one weird experience. I Called Budget, who I had used several times before over the last ten years, to address a tub faucet leak. The (female) Dispatcher told me they could have someone out the following afternoon, which was not very responsive, but it was not an emergency so I said ok. That following afternoon, the plumber did not arrive until about 5:30. He looked over the situation and gave me a verbal quote of $167.50 which, although high, was in the ballpark with some phone quotes I received. He started his work, turning off the main water line first, but broke his cartridge puller, a critical piece of equipment in removing the tub faucet cartridge, so he advised that he would need to go purchase one at one of the local big box home improvement stores. He left at about 6:00 for the fifteen minute drive to the store, he did not turn the main water line back on. More than an hour later he called saying the first store did not have the tool, but that he was going to another store to find it and would be back in a little while, but he never came back. Around 9:30 to 10:00 I called the dispatcher and was connected with the answering service. I told them my story and asked them if they knew where my serviceman was, but being they are only an answering service, they did not know. They did say, though, that if they got hold of him, or another serviceman, that I would be charged after hours fees if they came out, to which I responded "No, I would not," but that mattered not because noone ever came. Being late, I packed it in and went to bed assuming (knowing full well) that no serviceman was coming. The next morning I spoke with the (same) dispatcher and told her my story. Sounding concerned and slightly alarmed, she said they would have someone out between 10:00 and 12:00 in the morning. At 12:15, and with no serviceman having showed up, I called back, speaking again to the same dispatcher. I told her that noone had showed up. She left the line for a minute or two, and when she returned she calmly and without a touch of concern in her voice told me that they were not going to be able to help me. Confused, I asked why to which she responded "We don't have any plumbers." I thought about digging deeper into this confusing respone, (no plumbers at a plumbing company?). which my wife wished I would have done, or giving her a good tongue lashing, but ended up ending the conversation and bidding adieu to what I had previously considered to be a competent plumbing company. A footnote - I got ambitious that afternoon and fixed the leak myself. A nice learning experience, albeit not without a few mistakes and accompanying expletives, and I saved $138 over the Budget quote. I could have saved another $10 but my inexperience led me to muck up a couple of parts.

Budget Home Services were on time for each of the 3 appointments that they set with us. Prompt, Courteous, Informative, Professional. Budget Home Services is an excellent choice for Air Conditioning Services.

They came out, looked at the job, and gave me the estimate of $675 to install a new water heater. That seemed high, but they also said that the old installation was not up to code, and so additional vents and supports would have to be added. Two men were here for about 3-4 hours, including the time to go to Home Depot and pick up the new water heater. The old water heater was under warranty, and the guys did give me some helpful advice about how to respond to the company (GE), which didn't want to honor the warranty as it was written. The job was satisfactory, although I thought the price was steep. (The $675 did not include the cost of the new water heater.) They were on time, and professional.

We called Budget Home Services after our old water heater gave out. The technicians were able to come out that afternoon. I asked for three estimates: to fix the one we have, to get a new high-efficiency storage water heater and to get a new tankless water heater that I've seen advertised. I liked the fact that they did not make me feel pressured into the most expensive option; they answered what questions I had and after reviewing the estimates with my husband, we decided to replace it with a newer storage heater and made the appointment for that next week. A couple days later I was doing research on Energy Star-rated products and wanted to make sure the heater we were having installed that next week carried this rating. I called the office and spoke to the office manager, who changed our order and gave me the new estimate with the rated appliance. Replacing a water heater in an attic is back-breaking work; potential clients should not be surprised at the huge difference in labor costs if their system is up there as opposed to the first floor. I believe the difference on the final costs was as much as $400 from what one of the technicians told me. Everything that day went according to plan; the only surprise was the good kind. The original estimate listed a heater with a six-year warranty and the change to the "Energy Star-rated" (the quotations will be explained in a second) heater carried an eight-year warranty. A few days later I sat down at my computer to type my Angie's List review of this company, estimates and bills beside me for documentation. I don't know what made me do it, but I went to the energy star government website to confirm the model number of our new heater was on the master list. And, it wasn't. Our new water heater was going to end up costing us about $120 over the life of the warranty. I wrote Budget Home Services a letter, telling them about what happened along with all sorts of proof and requesting a reimbursement of this extra cost out of our pocket. Because they are a small local business I did not want to be demanding and ask for a new system to be installed, but I saw it as only fair that we be reimbursed. The manager Brett Davis could not have been nicer and more professional when he called us back just days later. Turns out the information they get from this particular manufacturer had not been updated and after doing all my research, I could see where this could be the case. They sent out the $120 check and I received it yesterday. I will definitely use them in the future for any of our plumbing needs.

Budget Home Services seems to perform work from a menu. Plumbing is *always* custom work. Trying to quote fixed prices for general situations is not doing the work the customer needs. Perhaps if you can't or don't want to have any involvement in your plumbing/appliance work BHS will be fine for you, but if you know what you need (and don't need) you will probably pay far more than necessary.
Description of Work: Made three calls to Budget Home Services for water heater, sink disposer, and plumbing. Here's what happened: First call -- water heater problem: unusual noises (popping, bubbling). The tech (with assistant) said he knew the problem was sediment in the 5 year old heater, but there was nothing to be done except replace the entire unit because State heaters were inferior. I declined to do so and sent them away. I then drained the tank myself. The problem has gone away at zero cost and one hour of my time. Second call -- leaking kitchen sink disposer. The tech (different from first call) said the Insinkerator Badger 5 was leaking internally but BHS doesn't repair appliances and they just sold the last unit in their stock so there was nothing he could do. I went to Home Depot and bought a bigger, quieter $200 model. However, when I went to install it I found it was larger than the defective unit, meaning the PVC pipe would have to be re-plumbed to attach to the new unit. I don't do PVC So I made the. . . Third call -- to re-do the PVC drain pipe. The tech (different from first two) said the piping would be $70 and the installation of the disposer would be $140. I said I was going to hang the unit myself (one turn of the mounting ring) when he cut the pipe away. He said BHS has a schedule of services and if a new disposer is involved they charge for the installation. Suppose, I asked, I had already cut the PVC drain pipe with my hacksaw, the new unit was in place, and he only had to cut and glue new pipes? He shrugged. I sent him away. I returned the new Insinkerator to Home Depot for full credit, bought a Badger 5 for $100, and had it in place on the existing PVC connections in 25 minutes.

They are very professional. They know what they are doing. They do a very good job. They clean up. They go beyond what they need to do. I appreciate that. With the dryer there would have been an opening left. Most places would just put a piece of cardboard over it and I would have had to call a carpenter. They put a metal piece over it to take care of it.

Called numerous plumbers on Angie's List, including some higher rated ones. Budget was the only one to call back Saturday night. It's Sunday morning now and Budget has fixed the problem. I have yet to receive a call back from any of the other companies. I needed help at an inconvenient time, and Budget and Rich Brumale were professional, honest, and helpful. The problem was in a very inaccessible spot, but Rich took to it without complaint, getting quite dirty. I knew I was going to pay too much for emergency service, and I did, however, no real alternative for me and my situation.
Description of Work: Had a streaming leak at the city water intake to my home's plumbing system. Water was streaming out in three spots, wetting the foundation and flooding the yard. The problem was discovered at 7pm on Saturday night.
