BROWN FENCING

Richard Brown came to bid on the building of my fence and I explained in detail what I needed, which included a traditional 8 foot perimeter fence, with bi-fold driveway gates and an arbor overhead. He was both personable and professional and had lots of recommendations, primarily encouraging me to not buy the prefab gates or trellises but to let his crew build the gates as this would be no problem at all. His arrangement was for me to purchase all the materials based upon the measurements and list he provided and then his services would be carpentry and labor. We worked with a local lumber yard to purchase and deliver exactly what was on his required list of materials, but, turns out, his measurements were off by more than 20%, thus requiring two additional trips for more wood (ie: the cost was 1/3 more for materials than he original lead me to believe). The fence is a good fence. It wasn't perfect but it is good. He was willing to adjust a few spots of poor workmanship, The bad experience was with the building of the gate. Since he was going to do a custom built gate, I rendered a graphic to scale, plus photographs and an on-line step by step instruction guide of how to build the gate. Confidently, he said he would be able to build that gate and the trellis with no problem. I explained in detail everything about the illustration. A few days later, after watching the crew rush to try to finish the gate all in one evening, I inspected the gates and found that one gate was a whole foot narrower than the other, which left a foot gap between the two gates when closed. Not sure what the point of gates are if there is a foot inbetween each (of course my dogs loved the easy access to the street). Furthermore, one was crooked and not level. I called Richard and he said he was aware of the issue and he would fix it the next day. When he arrived the next day, I showed him, with my level, all the issues with the doors. very professionally and with confidence, he said he would fix this. At the end of that day, not only was the door still crooked, the new door was aligned to the crooked one creating a slope of the gate that put the new door on the ground where it couldn't be moved at all. Obviously, gates, doors and trellises are beyond the skill level of his team . . . which not only left a ruined product, it meant more materials were required in order to have it redone. At this point, I just wanted wanted a level gate that closed without gaps and disengaged richards services and am in the process of having my gate reconstructed by someone else. I am not pleased with the overall experience. If you need a standard, basic perimeter fence and only a fence, and are willing to arrange and purchase all the materials on your own, this would be a good company to use. Anything else on your list of wants, work with another company.

Half the fences had fell over because of the hurricane, and getting them to show up was amazing considering how in-demand they were.

Richard Brown responded very quickly and set up an appointment the next day to view the job. They started three days later and finished the work within the week, working both Saturday and Sunday to finish the job. The crew was very professional and the end product was very good.
