Went very well. did not have to pay until after a hard rain to verify the work.

I had a problem with water pooling around the edges of my house. Mr. Blalock spent plenty of time with me to come up with the best solution, which turned out not to be the most expensive approach. He answered every question including some I didn't know I had. The installation of gutters was fast, professionally done, & it's accomplished what was promised. I'm very impressed & pleased.

We had our back yard swimming pool removed and needed some landscaping. We have a pretty good idea what we wanted (trees/plants removed, a patio with pavers, lots of grass (and therefore sprinklers). I phoned Blalock Landscaping and Drainage and spoke to Ashley in the office. She was not sure if they could help out with a paved patio, but would ask and call me back. Her reply was positive, so Johnny would come between 12 - 1. I stated clearly that I needed to leave at 1.15, but that was no problem with her. On the day of the appointment I received a phone call at 12.50. It was Johnny to confirm his appointment. He arrived at 1.12, told me that normally you need at least 30 minutes for an appointment. (Not my fault he was late, was it?) Anyway, he could do grass, but not pavers. He kind of insulted me (I do have an accent) by stating that I said pavement to his secretary, because that is concrete and he can do concrete. This company is called "landscape & drainage", but should be the other way round he said, because that is what he wants to do. According to him our whole drainage was wrong (it was just done by a recommended company and tested with lots of rain). After 3 minutes I had to run off and left him drawing in my backyard. Upon my return I found in my mailbox his handwritten quote. He designed a beautiful drainage system for a lot of money. Definitely not the landscaping we were looking for.

My husband worked with the gentleman to show him where the trouble was and my husband said he was very knowledgeable and worked fast to repair our system, as we had no supply of water whatsoever. My husband was very pleased with him and said he would definitely use him again. This happened on a Saturday morning, and after contacting Angie's List to get a referral, I talked to him, but he already was on a project. He said he would call later in the day, if he could finish that project and hopefully drop by. At around 5:00, the gentlemen called and said he would not be finished with the project until late into the evening, but said that he would call around 9:00 Sunday morning and could come out then. He did call Sunday morning as promised and gave us a time when he could come out (which was in the morning) and he arrived on time. This was one of the best experiences we have had with a service provider in a long time. Thank you for your recommendation, and we would totally recommend them to anyone in need of well maintenance.

I got a few estimates before having the work done. Blalock was not the cheapest but I definitely felt like I got my money's worth. Everyone that I dealt with at Blalock was incredibly professional. I had an issue with one of the catch basins not draining properly the week after the work was initially done. My yard was already draining 100% better than it had been so I did not consider the issue to be a major one. However, Mr. Blalock sent an entire crew out the following weekend to re-route a portion of the drain line (which ended up taking at least half a day) at no additional charge. Based on my experience I would highly recommend Blalock Landscaping for any of your drainage needs.

It was listed as an A company. I thought they were a little high. I thought they were average on price. Most of the work, I thought, was very good quality. They used flagstone. I think they probably should not have. It split and broke within a few days. They did replace it with a different type of stone, but it took them maybe three weeks before they came out to do that. They were punctual. When they said they would come out they did come out.

The lead guy came out and looked at the site and designed a solution to take care of our drainage problems which could have potentially resulted in foundation problems. We received a map and outline of the services and an estimate. It was a two-day project and the crew arrived on time and worked like trojans. There was a lot of digging. Trenches were dug to carry the water away from the backyard into the street. We also had gutters installed around the garage that fed into the underground drains and surface drains to catch water as well. Attention was paid to detail and environmentally friendly design. They laid crushed granite around the perimeter of the garage.

blalock was punctual coming to the house to review the work scope and make a bid. He offered good solutions to the drainage problem and seemed very open and reasonable to work with. However, it was necessary to demolish an existing deck to regrade the yard and since Blalock did not do deck construction I would need to set up a separate contract with a carpenter for the replacement deck. Although two separate contracts probably was a less expensive option, I was not in a position to manage two contractors so I went with a contractor who could do the entire job.

He came and provided a very flexible approach to get the work done. His assistant was to provide a full overview; this at times was not the case. However, when I brought various issues to his attention - all was fine. He altered the landscape per my view and created additional planted areas with new soil and mulched the full garden as well as planting of about 25 large and small shrubs. He is a reliable and honest professional. I plan to get more work done this year again.

I am NOT a fan of french drains. The previous owner put one in on the back patio, and I have had to dig it out to clean it twice. My back patio slopes away from my house at one corner which is also the lowest point in my yard, so water basically pools at this corner. When the rain is not heavy, a french drain works fine. But 2-3 times a year, and about 15 times this year since it has been so wet, there have been downpours that overwhelmed my back patio as well as the gutter on the patio awning which caused the patio to flood even worse. During one such rain, it rained so hard for so long that water pooled at the back of my house due to a poorly placed gutter downspout and it could not drain fast enough, causing some minor flood damage. I had several contractors come out for a quote, and half of them wanted to put in french drains even though I requested an actual drain system with catch boxes. Johnny was the only one who also suggested I re-route the gutters including removing the poorly placed downspout. Not only was Johnny's price solid, but the drainage system with new gutters sold me in a heart beat. To top it off, Johnny told me his policy is "You don't pay until it rains and you're happy." Well, about half an hour after his team had finished and left it started POURING rain, which under previous circumstances would have easily flooded my patio, overwhelmed my patio gutter, and caused water to pool by the back of my house. However, with the new gutters and drainage my my patio stayed completely dry and no water pooled near the house. Needless to say, I paid the invoice as soon as it came! My only complaint is when I finally accepted the bid (I was waiting for some other work to be finished), they could not come out for three weeks. But this is also a sign of quality work when someone is that in demand!

John Blalock is truly a rare gem in today's buyer beware environment. His professionalism, honesty, patience, and breath of field-knowledge speak volume of character .Following a severe thunderstorm, water seeped through the front walls of my house and the remodeling contractor I hired could not figure out how that could happen. I looked up Angie's list for a landscaper who not only did hard landscaping but was also knowledgeable in irrigation. John was the best choice. He showed up promptly and was very generous with his time. He presented several different alternatives in detail, with different price ranges depending on the materials chosen. While the landscaping proposal was very appealing, it was beyond my budget. John wasn't pushy at all, as a matter of fact he suggested gutter improvement first and if that doesn't work, we should then consider grading/landscaping. His guy, Jesse, cleaned the gutters, installed screens and extended the downspouts away from the foundation around the house. The job was well-executed, clean and professionally completed. We highly recommend, without any reservation, Blalock Landscaping for any landscaping job, big or small.

Very happy, they tied the down spouts into the drain, and put screens on the gutters to keep debris out. Good communication, it does take a while from initial contact to arrives being complete. But, I was warned ahead of time, so it wasn't that big of a deal for us. I would highly recommend Blalock!

The work they provided was excellent. It is absolutely wonderful. We have not had any issues in out yard, even with all of the flooding in the area. I am very happy.

This work was actually done last year. I am grateful for how well it was done and how successful Johnny's solution was. Ever since he repaired the problem we have not had ONE drop of water come into the house. I writing a second recommendation today because of what could have been after the deluge we just had (we are in the Meyerland area). I can't recommend them highly enough.

We had some serious rain today in our area. The drainage worked like a charm!! No more muddy yard and dogs tracking in water and mud!! The grass can finally grow in the area that has had standing water. I highly recommend Johnny and his team. . We called Blalock Landscaping and Drainage based on reviews on Angie?s list. There was an area by one corner of the house near the back fence which always stayed wet and muddy. It was a pain when we?d let the dogs come in from the yard. The solution recommended was to install a drain and tie into an existing nearby drain line and to replace the grass in that area with decomposed granite. This additional drain was a challenge in that the existing drain lines in that area were very near the surface. It was difficult get the new drain lower than the surroundings and at the same time higher than the line that it would be tied into. To make it short, after the first rain, they came back a second time and relocated the drain. Finally, they came back a third time and added more granite to eliminate an area where a puddle would form and left me a wheelbarrow full of extra granite in case there is settling. Blalock really went the extra mile on this until I was totally satisfied. I highly recommend them

I can't say enough about how helpful Johnny was. Although this was an initial conversation, he spent over an hour examining our yard, existing drains, gutters, hardscape and landscape. He provided a selection of potential solutions ranging from the quickest and easiest to the most thorough and complex. He was happy to discuss all of these options in great detail and gave us plenty to consider. There was absolutely no comparison between the first couple of folks we brought out to bid and Johnny. He knows his stuff, has an impeccable attention to detail, and a creative and thoughtful approach to finding the best possible solution for us. While we haven't yet made a final decision about what to do, we are so grateful for his generosity in time, ideas, and creativity.

Chris, the foreman, brought 2 men to my house to dig trenches and lay pipe in my back yard. This was designed to carry water away from the back yard to the front of the house and empty in the street. He also needed to remove 3 rain barrels that were harming my foundation because the overflow had no place to go except to drain into the foundation and finally under the house. He finished the entire job in 3 days. The first day was the most intense and the next day was a small touch up to finish the drainage. The gutter man came the third day. I am very pleased with the job so far but to really test the work, we will need a heavy rain.

They did a very good job. They came when they said they would and did professional work.

Mr. Blalock was very straightforward and informative about the services he would be providing and honest about the pricing of his services down to the material cost and associative labor cost. I felt he was fair with his pricing and very transparent about his overhead vs profit. I would highly recommend his services to anyone looking to install a drainage system. I ended up taking care of the drainage problem myself. So I can not speak to the quality or speed of his crew. However his demeanor and honesty about the project and willingness to work with my schedule and budget made him my first choice of the contractors i had bid on the job. I would have indeed used his services if i hadn't completed the project on my own.

showed up when he said, began and finished the work later than expected but I had some changes with installing some slated area. I thing he underestimated the project because he ran over three days yet I never heard a word nor did he ask for more money. This was all done on a handshake. Could be happier with the work nor the professionalism in performing the work. I also wanted to one thing and he advised me not to do it as it would cost a lot more money and I would not be happy with the outcome. I took his advice and am glad I did. There is nothing bad to say about the work or the men on the project.

We have not done the major work yet, but Johnny Blalock has helped us understand why we have had significant settling and knows what should be done to correct the drainage.

Johnny was very friendly to work with, from the initial consultation through to the final billing. His crews worked hard and diligently, doing their best to return the yard to its original state when the project was completed. All of the work was completed very quickly once they were able to start. I would highly recommend Blalock Landscaping.

Mr. Blalock contacted me very soon after I left him a voice mail. He came out to the house, took a look and offered suggestions with prices. We discussed a time frame and a few days later I called him with my final decision on what work I wanted done. It did take about 2 weeks before his crew could get out to do the work, partly due to rain delays and partly because I missed a message from him. The 3 man crew started on time, hand dug the trench, installed the pipe and tie-ins for the gutters, and replaced the soil with the grass side up. A lot of work for one day. They were very diligent and careful. Best part - it works! About a week later his crew installed the gutters, matching the existing trim color. The work is excellent, looks professional, clean and functions beautifully.
