Big Tex Concrete Construction

We dealt with the owner, Mr. Henry Luna, on a driveway replacement and patio repair after foundation repair work on our house. We are extremely happy with his work on both. Mr. Luna was prompt in coming for the bid, the price was reasonable, and he did the work promptly and very well. He broke out and hauled off the old drive, dug and graded and installed rebar, and then poured and finished the new drive. Although ours was a small job, he worked alongside his crew and we never felt our job was less than a priority with him. The crew arrived timely, the work was done very well, they cleaned up thoroughly afterward. They even smoothed a "border" pattern around the concrete sections, an old-fashioned touch which we appreciated on a simple driveway installation. Mr. Luna also repaired several small areas of flagstone on our back patio that had been taken out so piers could be installed under the foundation. The flagstone patio is several years old, but Mr. Luna got nice pieces of stone that matched well. In addition to the areas we'd asked to be replaced, he also patched several areas where sections of stone and mortar had broken away along the edges of the patio--gong above and beyond to make the patio look nice again. We would absolutely use Big Tex again, and recommend his work to anyone. Mr. Luna takes pride in what he does and it shows.

I have a big driveway -- approx 725 s/f. Henry returned my calls, showed up when stated, provided a responsive bid quickly and started and completed work on schedule. I expected an ordinary driveway but what I got was one that had extra expansion joints, was textured (brushed) and the expansion joints were bordered with a smooth surface. SO, although simple, a beautiful job and better than all driveways in my neighborhood. What a pleasure!

Mr. Luna and his crew showed up bright and early (8AM) to get the job done. By 10AM they had the grass removed and ground leveled with a form started. Shortly after the concrete truck arrived and they began to pour the slab. At around 3PM he had completed the slab and only thing left to do was wait for it to dry. He returned two days later to remove the form and clean up. I waited a few weeks to write the review to make sure that no issues showed up after work was performed. Overall I am happy with the work and the finished product, now just have to find more money to get more work done. :)

I initially contacted four other contractors (not thru Angie's List) for a proposal to replace my driveway. One contractor gave me a quote over the phone without personally visiting my residence, another contractor scheduled an appointment to stop by but never showed up or called to cancel. When I call the other two contractors, the phone rang and rang, then went to a full voice mail box without the ability to leave a message. I eventually called Big Tex and Henry answered right away. He said he would stop by the next morning. He called at 7:30 to indicate that he was on the way. Showed up at 8, took measurements, surveyed the worksite and then provided a competitive quote. I called him back late that same day and scheduled the job for the following Wed. His crew arrived at 8:00 to begin work, completing the portion of the project as promised. Came back the next morning and poured the concrete. Third day Henry and a worker arrived to pull up forms, clean up the edges, and pick up around the job site. Beautiful job!!! Driveway looks great! A neighbor three houses down had his driveway replaced a couple months ago..... very cheap job. Uneven surfaces; his new driveway already has cracks in it!!! Doubt very seriously he has rebar. Night and day when comparing his driveway to mine in the quality of workmanship and material. It is obvious that Henry takes great pride in his work and his crew.

Very punctual, showed up on time with his crew, they were very professional and worked diligently on the job. Got the job finished by the afternoon, and the work looked great!

We were extremely pleased. The crew were friendly and very tidy. The work was very well done and we have received a lot of compliments on the appearance and quality. The construction is very solidly reinforced for durability, and the job was performed and completed on time and very quickly.

Henry came out the same day I called and gave me an estimate. I accepted and he said they could do the job the next week. He called 3 days later and asked if he could do it on the weekend and I accepted, of course. Saturday, they arrived bright and early 7am. They got all the digging and forming done and arrived early again on the following Monday to pour the concrete. They did an excellent job, finished early and the only bad part is having to wait 4-5 days to drive on it. Not complaining though. As far as service performed, they exceeded my expectations and already got an estimate for another project. Henry is one busy man and deserves to be. Good job guys!

I was totally satisfied with Enrique and his crew. He gave me the best price and delivered. His crew was punctual and did the job professionally. It was a three day job: day 1 was destruction and removal; day 2 was setting forms and pouring concrete; and day 3 was removal of forms. They cleaned the area very nicely. A couple of additional items were added at no cost, like dirt to set below the concrete, lime to dry the soil's wet spots, and a PVC pipe under the driveway should we ever have to fix the house's water main. I would highly recommend this contractor.

After getting the approval from our Home Owner's Association we contacted My Luna and told him we were ready to proceed. His crew came and demolished all the old concrete and removed it in one day. They next day they built the forms and installed the wire. We had a lot of rain after that and were not able to pour the concrete until the day before Thanksgiving. Everything was completed by the 29th of November and we have a new driveway and extended patio. We could not be more pleased with the work and job Henry Luna and Big Tex Concrete Construction did for us. I would recommend them to anyone who need this work done. Oh and the most important part Big Tex Concrete Construction had the best price overall from the bids received. Thank you Henry for a great job!!

I spoke directly to the owner Henry, who told me he happened to be in the Sugar Land area and would stop by my house and leave an estimate taped to my front door. I was working at the time and couldn't be at home at the time he dropped by. When I returned home, I found the estimate written down on a business card and taped to my door. All it said was " repair concrete 31' by 11'", for $2300. I phoned Henry to follow up and asked for a more detailed estimate. He told his company has done lots of work in Sugar Land, and he would need permits and inspections, etc. We agreed that additional costs for permitting (from City and Home owners association) would be required. He also mentioned that his company is located in North EAST Houston, in the Atascocita area and they primarily work in that area. It was a pleasant conversation but I got the impression that he really didn't want business in the First Colony area because of the hassle of permits and inconvenient location. I decided to drop him from the list of contractors under consideration in favor of someone who services this area as a major part of their business. Also, I would caution anyone having concrete work done, to get a DETAILED estimate in writing.

I guess my job was too small, he said I was too far for him in Sugar Land, even though on Angie's List it said he goes to Sugar Land, and Fort Bend County.

it didn't....never go any response from the vendor....sooooo....................

Henry was prompt, courteous, very friendly and did a wonderful job. We enjoyed working with him and will be contacting him in the future for any other professional work.

I called to get a rough estimate over the phone, which they provided. I then called back a day later to arrange for them to come out for a formal bid. They were on time and the formal bid was the same as their estimate on the phone. We set a date and time to start the work and they arrived on time, actually a bit early which was fine. They also did some work outside of the original bid, which included replacing a small piece of walkway and cutting back part of the concrete foundation that was part of a fireplace we removed, and they did not charge for the extra work. They came back the next morning to remove the forms and back filled around the new patio. I was extremely pleased with the work and professionalism.

Never saw anyone from the company

Big Tex was recommended to me by a friend at my Church, so I called them and mentioned that it was a referral. Henry Luna (the owner) came out and gave me a cost-competitive bid and answered my questions satisfactorily on how the work would be done, etc. Henry is a very pleasant guy, easy to talk to and responded quickly by phone whenever I had a question. They started the job on exactly the day that Henry estimated. He came with his crew and stayed on the job site for most of the work. He was there all day when the concrete was being poured and helped with his crew. I'm a Civil Engineer / P.E. which I didn't mention to Henry until after the work was completed. I wanted to see how the work would be handled for the average homeowner - as opposed to someone who actually knows construction codes. Plus- it's a driveway, not a bridge or high rise. I was very pleased with the result. The rebar was installed properly and concrete forms were spaced appropriately and all the work was performed professionally. The yard drain he installed was also done in a very professional manner. With this type of work, it would be very easy to scrimp on quality since the final product is covered by concrete - or by dirt, in the case of the yard drain. From what I could see, Henry and his crew didn't cut any corners on quality. If every contractor performed at this level, the world would be a happier (and safer) place! I absolutely recommend Big Tex Concrete and Henry Luna. I thought his price was excellent, but if someone makes you a lower bid, be sure to get an educated referral on them. For me, I'm glad that driveways don't have to be replaced periodically like roofs - but if they did, I'd call Big Tex to get the job done.

By far the cheapest quote I got, job was done promptly and efficiently and came out very well. Several other companies I contacted, including some highly rated contractors on this list, never gave me a quote or returned my calls. After seeing the quality of the work, several of my neighbors also used them for their driveway replacement.

Mr. Luna was in the area so came over quickly to bid. I received one bid for about 5,000 less and one for 7,000 more. I was a little afraid of the low bid because I had no references, so I decided on Big Tex. They began the next week and finished in a timely manner. I am satisfied with the results.

They showed up for the bid on time and were quick and professional. They had the lowest bid. They arrived on the job when promised, finished when promised, cleaned up nicely, and did an excellent job in lining up the cement with the rest of the driveway. The charge was the exact price quoted.

This started off with such promise. Contractor was very responsive in providing estimate for work that I required and had several suggestions regarding my project. He indicated that it would be about two weeks before he could start the project but did not respond to my call after three weeks had elapsed and I had not heard from him. When I spoke with him today, he was not very forthcoming but finally admitted that because of the abundance of work that he had, he could not say when he would be able to start the project. I have basically wasted almost a month waiting for him which could have been avoided if he had simply indicated that he could not work the project into his schedule.

Overall it was good. They were on time and on budget. I would recommend them. The price was good.

Previously we had two terrible experiences by companies that were advertised in the green sheet and by the better business bureau. The first one landed in jail leaving the job half done and the second promised to do the job but then backed out when he got a larger job to do. In contrast this company surveyed the job and gave us and estimate. When we cleared the old lumber left by the previous company. Big Tex company came out, laid new foundations of a very complete and substantial. The work was inspected the next day and the following day the concrete was poured. The job is outstanding. It now only looks good but we know it will last.

It went flawlessly - he started the job on Monday, February 24 and finished on Thursday, February 28. He demolished the old driveway and sidewalk, hauled off the cracked concrete, built new forms w/rebar, underwent an inspection by the City Inspector, then poured the new concrete. It was all very professional - and the job site was left very clean - I was impressed with how clean the work area was at the end of each day. Would I hire Mr. Luna again? Absolutely! Thank you Big Tex Concrete - great job!

Henry Luna is a good man. He called me back within an hour of my leaving a message, and came to give me an estimate the next day. He knew what the city would require to pass inspection, which we did with no problems. His price was very competitive and he stayed late to make sure the concrete set correctly. He cleaned up the site and removed excavated dirt, and made sure no wood forms were left in place, which can attract termites. Additionally, Henry is extremely nice, loves his family and his business. I was glad to get to give business to such a man. I gathered other bids and Henry came in much lower, but I felt like I got a superior experience with him. I would not hesitate to use him again for any and all future concrete projects, and highly recommend him to others.

Big Tex Concrete Construction did a really good job. I wasn't there for the job so I don't know how clean they were. He took a picture and sent it to me and it looked very nice. I assume they cleaned up and finished when they were supposed to.
