Matt did a beautiful perfect job in 1991. My first time to use him. In 2015, some of the spindles came loose due to wear and I returned it to him to be glued again. Without hesitation he re-restored the rocker. He polished and cleaned it and put in tip-top condition. No charge. He keeps his word and guarantees his work. So good I kept the original receipt that he handwrote so I can use him again!

I am so very pleased with the restoration job.
Description of Work: Matthew at Artique Restorations (713-523-4246) did a fantastic job restoring an antique chest of drawers to its original beauty. He picked up the piece and delivered it within the promised timeframe. Matthew is very professional and is a pleasure to work with. I would definitely have him do any of our furniture restoration work in the future.

We got a quote right away and although the chest wast a more complicated job than it looked, Matthew did not charge us more. He was friendly and efficient. We will highly recommend Artique and will surely use their services in the future.
Description of Work: Repaired a cracked dining table and polished an antique Burmese chest. It sounds like it is an easy job but the chest took Mathew forever to finish. The result was certainly worth it as all the mother-of-pearl details reappeared after ages of neglect/dirt/paint. It looks absolutely stunning!

He was a nice guy; very professional, and prompt. Even though he was not very close to our area he made a trip to come give us a quote. We did not end up using him at that time, but we would use him for other projects in the future.

We called him on the weekend, on Saturday, to repair our antique/vintage extendable dining room table. We had been trying to get the table repaired for years - it would not open all the way, and we had never been able to insert more than one of the three leaves. Martin came out to our home the next day on Sunday afternoon - we didn't expect him to be able to come until later in the week. He was very polite and professional, and he repaired the table in less than 30 minutes. Now it works like new. We are thrilled.

Matthew responded to my phone inquiry quickly and professionally. He picked up the table and bed stands at time promised and showed much care in handling my furniture through out the process. Although the table was challenging due to the type of material, and took some time to complete, he did not give up until he came up with a solution to restore it. The table and bed stands turned out beautifully. We are especially grateful to him, because we have not been able to locate new furniture that we liked, and now we have no need to shop for new! Thank you again, Matthew!l

Wonderful! Professional and competent He came out the my home looked at the job, asked what I wanted done, gave me a quote and took the desk back to his shop. Then he brought the desk back, checked to see if I was satisfied. He brought a helper and his tools with him so he could correct anything that I might want correct I wanted the base of the desk to be built up 4 inches. I wanted this done without taking away from the look of the desk. When he arrived at my home, we discussed what could be done to accomplish this. Once we agreed on what to do he took the desk and completed the job. I was very happy with the service, outcome and cost. I will call on them again if I need other wood work done as well as tell my friends about this company.

I recently inherited a 50 year old office desk with significant wear and tear. Matthew came out, arrived on time, quoted me a price, loaded up the desk and returned a week later with the desk in immaculate condition. He added desktop glass at my request and I couldn't be happier with the result. He and one of his employees even carried it upstairs for me (after picking it up from the first floor). It looks great.

I had a stripped bolt holding the arm of an office chair to the body of the chair. It was past warranty and another repair shop said they couldn't fix it and I should just get a new chair. I talked to Matt and brought the chair by his shop. He said he thought he could fix it though it might take a few days. A few days turned into six weeks, but he not only repaired the arm, but fixed the other arm so that it wouldn't have the same problem later. My only suggestion for improved service would be to call the customer at least once a week with updates, if they can't get to it right away. The chair has held up very well since, though.

I called Matthew about refinishing a very large old library conference table we wanted to use as a dining room table. He came over and gave an estimate that was in line with others we had received. He seemed to know his craft well and we decided to go with him. We were not in a massive hurry to get the table back so we gave Mathew an approximate 2 month window for completion. He was very responsive with any phone calls and updates. I never had an issue getting a hold of him. The table restoration ended up being a little more complex than we thought but Matthew always discussed any issues and the price change. The end product was just wonderful and we are very pleased with his work. We have no hesitation with recommending Matthew for wood or furniture restoration.

Matthew did a beautiful job restoring the finish on my daughter's old bentwood rocking chair. It now has a very pretty walnut finish and looks like new. I walked around his shop and could see the beautiful work being done. I am very pleased with the results and will highly recommend him in the future.

Matthew always responded promptly to me from the time of the original phone call through the final delivery of my furniture. I brought him another item to which I wanted to match the color and he spent time with me at his shop mixing and testing stain samples. I think we ended up at somewhere over 20 samples - but he was incredibly patient with me ;-)! He delivered the furniture last week and it looks great. It's exactly the color that we picked and is very consistent. Note: It took about 3 (3.5?) months from beginning to end but I wasn't really in a hurry and told him that. When I did give him a 'deadline', he was able to meet that within a few days of the deadline. When he delivered the furniture to my house, I asked if he could help me take another dresser which was temporarily holding my clothes to a friend's house not far away and he ended up doing that at no charge, which was very nice of him! Matthew is extremely professional, courteous, and really just an enjoyable person with whom to do business. (I was remodeling my home at this time and dealing with a variety of people / professions where my experience was the opposite, so it just made me appreciate Matthew more) I do have one concern which is that my bedroom has a smell to it after the furniture was placed there. It's unclear to me if that's related to the lacquer finish or is something else. I'm going to let it air out for a week with fan and windows and Matthew's agreed to drop by to investigate. I'll definitely update my review once we figure out the source / resolution. UPDATE: Should have put this update far sooner. I moved one particular piece out of my bedroom to the attic. I had procured it from someone in another state and it arrived with a very pungent smell - so I think the process of refinishing didn't address that problem. Once I did that the rest of the furniture seemed fine. I haven't moved it back down after letting it bake in the attic for the summer - but the net is that the issue was with the furniture itself rather than the refinishing.
Description of Work: Matthew completely refinished a deco bedroom set (Brazilia Broyhill) for me. It included a king size headboard, two nightstands, a gentleman's chest, a dresser with a set of shelves on top, and three mirrors. Some of the furniture was in a very good state to start - I just wanted to change the finish color. Some of it was in a partially refinished state (just sanded, and poorly) in my garage. He kindly agreed to take over my work in progress.

Matthew is a true craftsman. He doesn't rush his work. He gets it right. Be patient and you will be pleased with your results.
Description of Work: Matthew has done two jobs for me. First he took a dresser that was about 40 years old, and refinished it. He painted it the same white as my daughter's new desk. It matches perfectly. He also filled in some gouges, and there is no trace of them now. I thought that I would have to replace the formica top, but he said I didn't need to, that he could clean it up. He did, and it looks great. Second, Matthew took my kitchen table and chairs. The set is steel and 15 years old. The steel had rusted and he cleaned it up and applied 4 coats of satin finish clear coat. We thought it was stainless when we purchased it, but clearly it was not, since it rusted. The chairs have a beautiful pattern ground or etched into them, so we didn't want to sandblast them. Matthew worked very hard to find a way to clean the rust without ruining the pattern. It was difficult, but he did it. He also took the fabric that I had purchased for the seats, took it to his upholstery guy, and took care of getting the seats recovered.

Matthew came out, looked at it and gave me price on refinishing. The finish on the top of the table was worn off in places, the table legs had not been refinished in at least 60 years. He took the legs off the table and took it away. 6 weeks later he returned it and it looks absolutely stunning! Well worth the money. The only reason I gave him a "b" on punctuality is because it seemed to take so long. Mind you, I don't know how long it should have taken, but I'm impatient. I am using him again to refinish two other pieces of furniture. So far, I am very pleased
