Larry came out to see what needed to be done. We met, I explained what needed to be done he made a few suggestions and it all looked like we were going to work great together, my husband and my mother were there he seemed like a very nice guy. He took measurements and said he would get back to me within a week. Well, that week came and went and nothing. I just move here from Chicago so we are plenty busy unpacking and getting some other things done that I did not lose sleep about it, we had another two guys coming to give us bids. I got a survey on how well they performed on the job? by now it's almost a month since Larry was here so in my survey I said, well I can't really give you any feedback, I never got the quote, I have not decided on a builder so if you care to still be consider, this would be the time to submit your bid. A few hours later Larry called and said he needed to talk to me, in a kinda worried/demanding tone. I called back got voice mail, he called back I was not available, I called him I got voice mail, so left him a message to leave me a detailed message on what happened and why I have not received a bid. He never called back. So that is my experience with All-Star. I am using somebody else.

Response from All Star Construction Inc
We are sorry that we have fallen short in our sales process with this potential client. This is our side of the story to at least explain the situation from our point of view. On 8/15/13 the customer called and set an appointment for 8/19 at 3pm. Our representative Larry K. met them at this time and discussed the project that they wanted. On 8/26 he called the customers to set a return trip appointment. He had the price estimate done ($20,880.00) and was ready to meet and explain it in person. He received no return phone call. On 9/4 as part of our standard follow up, we emailed the customer. On 9/10 the customer responded to the email and said we had not gotten back with them. On 9/11 our representative Larry K. called the customers again and left a message for the customer to call him. The customer called back and left Larry a message. On approximately 9/13 Larry called the customer back again and left another message. No response this time. The bottom line is they both called each other but never made connection. Our representative was trying to get them the bid, but could have tried harder. They never received a price from us. We apologize for not pursuing this until we actually gave them the price.

Dennis Chernov was the project manager who represented All Star for the bid on my project. Dennis was very knowledgeable and professional during the entire process. He was on time for our meeting to go through my condo, and made several helpful suggestions as I explained all the work I needed done (bathroom and kitchen remodeling, sheetrock repairs, new flooring and painting throughout the condo.) Dennis provided his detailed bid back to me very promptly, and he responded quickly to my phone calls and e-mails when I had questions or needed clarifications on certain items. Even though I did not choose them, All Star's bid was very reasonable and professional, and I would not hesitate to ask them to bid again on any future projects I may have, or to use them to do a project.
Description of Work: All Star Construction put in a bid to do a remodeling project on a condominium I own. They were one of three contractors I found on Angie's List who came out and made bids. I also got a bid from a fourth contractor that was personally referred to me. All Star Construction did not get the project, but they were very professional and very helpful through the entire bidding process.

Originally, I sent them an email and did not get a reply. I waited a week and called the company. A date and time was set to have Glen come to look at the project. Still waiting for that bid three weeks after Glen came to view and talk with me about my project. I called to ask about the bid and left a message. Waiting for that call to be returned as well.

Called All Star Construction to bid our upcoming remodel. Tim came out to inspect the house. He was nice the first visit. When it came time to bring me the bid, he didn't want to meet with me, he wanted to meet with my husband. My husband usually works late, he is a commercial service technician and does a lot of after hours work. So it was impossible to nail down a time for him to meet with Tim. He couldn't understand why Tim couldn't just give me the bid. But Tim tried week after week to schedule to catch my husband home. Tim refused to just give me the bid. He finally exhausted trying to get the "man of the house" and came to give me the bid. But he didn't really give it to me. He pulled out his paperwork and told me he is not giving me the bid on paper unless we use only All Star Construction and sign a contract. He wouldn't show it to me either, I did get a glance of the drawings, that's it. Tim made me write everything down for the proposal. Then he gave me the total price. He priced himself out of the job, his was the highest bid at $54k, and he didn't even include everything that needed to be done, that was extra or they didn't do that particular part of the remodel. Our next highest bid was $51k and that company went through every nook and cranny of the house that needed to be done, that bid was for everything to remodel the whole house. We are not remodeling the whole house, but quite a bit of it. Tim didn't give the bid for all that I asked for. For the scope of work that needs to be done, the range I've seen from all the bids is $30k for standard materials up to $40k for premium materials. We have a small house. All Star Construction called me later to follow up, I told the lady on the phone about Tim and his behavior. She asked me if the owner can call me later. I told her sure. The owner never called. We put the remodel on the back burner for a bit. We are about to start our remodel next month in September.

They were the first people I called and were phenomenal. The guy who came out listened to what I said and made practical suggestions. He didn't try to up sell me and didn't talk me anything I didn't want to do. He paid attentions to exactly what I said and the quote that he gave me was straight up without conditions. He was wonderful. He got here when he said he was going to and when he was going to be late he called and apologized to me and requested me to reschedule.
Description of Work: I used All Star Construction Inc for remodeling the kitchen and two bathrooms. He also removed the patio room from the house and added hardie plank all the way around.

Very professional crews, prompt and polite. I could not have asked for a better experience!
Description of Work: We had an 'unfinished storage' room off of our game room, and hired All Star to finish it so we could turn it into a media room. Tim came out to give us the estimate, and stayed in constant contact throughout the project. The project consisted of some insulation, some electrical work, drywall, texturing and trim installation. We were informed during the estimate appointment that they do not paint or do flooring, so we expected that. Tim stayed in contact with us, and dropped in periodically to make sure we were happy with the progress. A minor cosmetic issue was discovered after they were finished, and Tim sent a crew over to correct it. Overall a wonderful experience!

By using a contractor, we understood that we would be paying up to a third for contractor services, but we wanted all the essential elements of our house replaced and upgraded by a professional construction firm so we could enter retirement without concern of future problems or, if necessary be able to seek recourse for problems from a reputable organization. All the work was done ahead of schedule. All the work was professionally and skillfully done. Crews were efficient and courteous. Work areas were consistently managed and kept clean. I wish to thank, especially, All Starr Construction's representative, Mr. Barney Mejia. He was thorough, helpful, extremely courteous, and up front with all work and associated costs for work that had to be performed. He is an excellent communicator, expertly knowledgeable, and was daily involved with the projects at hand, frequenting the site and regularly on the phone with me to be sure that we were apprised of schedules and any changes to the work. Over many years I have heard the All Starr Construction local radio ad state, "Make the house you have - - the home you want." That's what we wanted, and that's what we got.
Description of Work: Over the years, my wife and I have had very little opportunity to maintain and upgrade our home, so when we retired in July of 2012, we called All Star Construction to: Re-roof the house with 30-year, reflective shingles replacing roof jacks, roof trim, and decking as necessary Install a skylight Add 15 inches of insulation to the attic Gut and replace our entire HVAC duct and vent system Replace all of our single-pane windows with vinyl double-pane windows Replace our back door Replace our rear eave with breathable HardiPlank in order to install a house-length ridge vent Install and replace a tin roof over our 24' x 15' patio with a permanent, well-insulated and extremely attractive roof.

Guy that ran my job, Bob, was great! Always easy to contact. Towards the end of the job Hurricane Ike hit. Bob made sure, before landfall, that materials outside were secured. Four years later, I can say I got a great job for a fair price.
Description of Work: They did a huge remodel for us on a Heights bungalow, adding onto downstairs and a second story, including two full baths. Replaced all original windows. They provide drawings for permitting which is a plus. Project took a few months and was completed within time estimates. Man that did estimate, JR, provided very detailed job description and patiently answered my hundreds of questions.

The estimates have been good, better than the others. Barney has been punctual. He listened patiently ane got the drawings and job onto paper correctly
Description of Work: This is my first review for this job. We should start construction next week. So far I have been impressed by Barney- he developed sketches and diagrams of the job and seems to have a good handle on the job scope. I will continue to post reviews as we go through the job. I selected All Star based on the price and thoroughness of the estimate. I will review again on job puncutality and the ability to stay withing the estimate. The total cost of this job is between $20,000 and $25,000. This is a addtion to a second floor that involves a new floor, electrical, HVAC and Sheetrock.

Didn't even get passed the estimate stage.
Description of Work: Didn't even get passed the estimate stage before I ask him to leave. It started with Barney calling about an hour before our scheduled time to confirm, he ended up changing the time stating that the hour that I had advaible would not be enough time to do business, even though its a simple and straight forward project. (I have seven kids and I don't have a lot of time to waste) When Barney arrived I recognized him from a previous estimate from a housecleaning service. He was very rude and insulting then and I did not use his service. I started showing him the projects that I wanted done. He began to tell me how I should do the project, I stated that I wasn't interested in doing it that way, as I was speaking he interrupted me. Then told me that I needed to listen, as if I was a child. Just the look on his face as he was speaking to me was so demeaning. Since this was the second time he was rude, insulting and demeaning to me I ask him to leave.

Response from All Star Construction Inc
Our representative met with this potential customer about converting her garage into living area for her 7 children. After assessing the situation, he recommended the sloped floor be built up flat and told her that egress to the outside was essential for safety from fire. He said that we would have to install an egress window and also recommended a door to the outside. She said no to all of these items and stated the fire marshall checked her home once a month. Possibly this is a home daycare or foster home situation? While our rep was measuring things she went inside and returned with her son and asked the rep to leave. He was polite, wished them a nice day and left. She may have thought that these recommendations would add cost to the project; however, we have to follow code especailly on fire safety issues with children involved. We think there may have been a personality conflict between our rep and this homeowner because coincidentally he previously had met with her while representing his wife's house cleaning business. This rep has been with us for over 15 years. For other ratings on this rep around the same time period, see those from other members, they are A's. Our rep may have been in the position of having to be the bearer of bad news and possibly could have done it more tactfully. We regret to have offended her in any way.

I first met with Larry, my All Star consultant in Nov of 2011. He took our initial plans and developed a construction timeline with costs outlined in the time table. After comparing the All Star bid to two other companies we decided that their bid made the most sense. We signed the contract on January 6, waited three weeks for HOA approval of the designs, and broke ground on Feb 1, 2012. The project was completed the first week in March, right on schedule. It was important to us to complete construction prior to Spring Break and the All Star team met the deadline with no problem.
Description of Work: I contracted with All Star to add an office,a sunroom and a covered screened in patio room to the back of my home. Larry, my contractor was always professional and courteous. He worked with me to turn my initial floor plan design into a 3D rendering and guided us throughout the process of selecting materials that would match our current construction perfectly. He stayed on top of the various stages of construction at ever step from submitting the inital application to my HOA, to the final walk through. My wife and I are extremely pleased with the quality of the work and the attention to detail.

I have decided not to do the project. So, I did not use them. Their quote was in line with everybody else. All the quotes came in between $65,000 and $67,000. The way my garage is structured the project would have been a big hassle. I would have had to start from the scratch. The guy seemed extremely honest. I would have used him if I was going ahead with the project. In fact, he offered more services than many other contractors. For example, he had a computer programer, who could actually do the blueprints. The service was free, which would be included in the cost of remodel. No other company had that service. The service would have cost me $3,000 otherwise. I have a friend, who also used him and was very happy with him. Once I decided not to do the work, he still took it up on him to call up after a couple of weeks to check if I was still interested in the work. The other contractors did not bother to do that. So, he took the initiative to followup. I would recommend this company and I would use them in the future.
Description of Work: All Star Construction Inc. gave me an estimate for remodeling a garage, four months ago. I wanted to build a room above the garage. He was going to extend my garage and build a room on it. He would have done the electrical and plumbing works. He would have done the wood work. He would have also put in new garage doors; etc.

We didn't use them because the insurance company said that it wasn't hurricane damage. They seemed to be very efficient. The guy came out and basically told us that he looked at the damage and that they would offer us a discount equivalent to our deductible off insurance. They had a person to go up with the insurance company, which was a good idea. We didn't talk to them after that, though. They took off after that. They had showed up unsolicited. They came out on time. However, they never called us back after the insurance company refused the claim. I will not call this company again in the future.
