The situation was attrocious. The Air-Wise tech had very limited AC/HVAC control technology/science applied knowledge in action it seemed. I finally thought that it might be the thermostat, since it was a shoddy/cheap/lower end brand, 'White Rogers', which are a dime a dozen and was installed by the last tech, BEFORE AIR WISE mind you. I went to Walmart and purchased a Hunter non-programmable, since the White Rogers was programmable and Gio offered to sell me another 'Honeywell' programmable. I installed it screwing Y - Yellow, G - Green, W - White, RH - Red, and RC jumper wire to RH. Everything worked fine for a day and then same problem as before. So it WAS NOT the thermostat and we saved like around $280.00 by not letting Air-Wise and Gio do it. I read more online and searched the symptom, like: Gas furnace blows cold air and fan will not shut off on Google search engine. Funny enough I got a wonderful page of info from of all people some mobile home DIYers(even though we're in a house) at: http://www.mobilehomerepair.com/articlefurnace.htm There I learned that there were, or could be, a whole number of things that Gio may've misdiagnosed or over-looked to either get to the next call quickly or just start his holiday early. Things like: a possible bad ignitor; replacing the flame sensor; clearing or cleaning the orifice to the burner; a bad temperature control switch(or adjusting it if its even adjustable); a possible short in the thermostat wires; or a bad gas valve. None of these were addressed, or even looked at, by him so I assume that Air-Wise is either ignorant of these very basic HVAC control technology principles, or else they hire technicians that have no technical knowledge, experience, nor trade school education in this essential knowledge.
Description of Work: The owner is Mr. Mitch Weigand, and I think he usually answers the phone. He sends out a technician named 'Gio,' who likes to charge the call-out charge, but then doesn't seem to want to fix the problem or either mis-diagnoses/troubleshoots it. We have a heater that starts running cold air through the house late at night, like around two or three in the morning. At this point I can not turn the blower fan off either by lowering the heater temperature from the thermostat, nor by clicking it to OFF on the thermostat on the wall. Gio arrived on time, within the alotted time bracket guesstimate that Mitch gave me by phone, and I clearly communicated everything to him just as I've typed it above. Also I communicated to him that at that point, when fan is blowing cold air into vents and I can not stop it by setting inside thermostat to OFF, then I have to shut off all power from the breaker box to stop it and then turn back on. At this point he quickly observed the system running okay since I'd re-jumped the breaker that day. It came on, he lowered the temp and it shut off. Then he turned it on again and turned it OFF by the thermostat and it shut off after about three minutes. Simultaneously, he went to garage and watched that blue pilots were on during heat blowing operation. He said, "There's nothing wrong,' at which point I disagreed and began to change out the termostat's AA batteries. He didn't have any on him he said. Then I asked him how much to change out a thermostat and he quoted me $300.00 for something I could purchase at Home Depot for about $60.00. He seemed inpatient, like he either wanted to get to a big and financially juicey install call, or just start his long Turkey Day holiday weekend early or something.
