We chose Abacus based on their promotion of free estimates and their favorable Google ratings; unfortunately, both claims proved to be misleading. To summarize, I cannot recommend Abacus. Brian arrived at our home towards the end of the scheduled window. Upon being shown the breaker box, he immediately employed alarming tactics, claiming that none of our equipment was up to code and posed a significant fire hazard. After inspecting the breaker panel, he asserted that the issues were irreparable and required complete replacement. Following this, he left to prepare a quote, informing us that the visit would incur a charge of $200. When my husband inquired about the free estimate, Brian explained that the diagnostic fee was necessary for preparing the estimate, which would be sent to us at no charge, along with two options. Later that day, I received the estimate, but it contained only one option. The quote included a requirement to enroll in a monthly subscription with Abacus. Lacking a detailed breakdown of charges, I reached out via email for clarification regarding the diagnostic report and the quote. Instead of a written response, I received a phone call from a representative who was difficult to understand due to mumbling and background noise. He stated that our "diagnostic report" was included in the quote, but it mirrored the information we provided during our initial request, with no additional insights beyond a recommendation for equipment replacement. After struggling to get clarification, I was transferred to another representative who, while still hard to understand due to background conversations, managed to provide a breakdown of charges. The monthly subscription was $29.95 with a minimum two-year commitment. Our quote was roughly $10,500. Subsequently, I sought a second opinion from another company, which successfully resolved our issue within 15 minutes for only $95 more than the diagnostic fee we had paid to Abacus. The technician assessed the extensive work suggested by Abacus and confirmed that none of it was necessary. I asked him to still write me a quote for the work, and his quote was a third of the price of Abacus’s estimate, representing a significant financial difference. Ultimately, the only positive outcome from engaging Abacus was that it led me to seek a second opinion, resulting in the discovery of an honest, fair, and reliable electrician somewhere else.

I was totally disgusted and at my wit's end with Abacus Plumbing and Electrical Services from Day two. Day one Their Technician came out and gave us a quote for a back up generator. He was very impressive after meeting him we signed a contract and the following day we paid over $9K for a deposit. After that everything went south! We were lied to over and over again about the entire process. We were told we needed a permit and that it was filed the same day the first technician gave us a quote. That was a lie, we were then told we didn't need a permit since we lived in Harris County, another lie, we were given a date for the installation so my husband took off work and stayed home. No one showed up, by 4 PM we called only to find out that we were never on the schedule for that day. Another Lie! Finally I was transferred and spoke I with Claudia, the person in charge of scheduling the installations. I explained that we were frustrated with the lack of communication as well as the miscommunications all the false statements were told, not to mention the day of work my husband lost due to another lie! She was not phased by our complaints. She informed us that she was backed up with work and had just been too busy to call any of her customers! She assured us that the the permit had been filed but there was no response from CenterPoint, still another lie! She also said that until an electrician and plumber came out to review everything the job couldn't be scheduled, this was true. However the request for the permit was done until the second technician that came about a week after speaking with Claudia. Eventually the job was completed and there is nothing negative to be said about the technicians and their work . Their work was very professional. However everything that we experienced to get to that point was totally unprofessional and totally unacceptable! After each technician visit Abacus sends a text asking how the technician did and they address us as a Valued Customer. There wasn't anything that Abacus did that made us feel like we were valued. In fact we felt the exact opposite! Not valued at all. We felt they had a signed contract and a fifty percent down payment and so we were merely at their mercy! They had time to execute a contract, take our money, and tell numerous lies. There was no time to return calls, or respond to text messages.

Charged My Grandmother $2,085 to replace a flange in her toilet. Will SCAM older people and woman. Will make you think its a big job they have to do and have you thinking there prices are compatible with others. They would not issue any type of refund because she agreed to the work. $545 was how much they charged to remove the toilet just to see what was wrong. lesson learned I could have done the job for her for under $100.

I called them to install an additional plug, and they said they wouldn't because my box was not up to code. So they replaced my 8 year old 200 amp electrical box and they said that i needed to have the box split by code which added an additional $4K to the job. This was not true. My 200 amp service was fine. He had me convinced that my house was in danger of burning down. I told them to leave the old box as I was going to use it elsewhere and they took it and all of the breakers. Totally deceptive cost to install this new box. Later found out that is NOT code to have an additional box. I feel totally duped. They offered to refund me $400 for the trouble. They also said they were installing upgraded breakers I got the normal CHFP120AF breakers. Said they were $487 retail each. But they would discount them.

Abacus plumbing changed my main sprinkler valve and the pipe to it. It was well wrapped and insulated by them. It was bled before the first freeze. When turned on in the spring the pipe to it had SHATTERED and the new valve now leaked. They fixed the pipe, but told me the valve was my problem. I did everything I was supposed to do. Well, it has shattered AGAIN. You can count on them to use substandard and or previously used and worn out pipe. I did not have ANY problems for the decade before, now this problem has been an ongoing disaster. They are not an inexpensive company, and you will pay over and over again for their mistakes. Warn everyone you know, Abacus does not stand by their work, because they know just how bad it is.

I can only provide review on customer service as no scope of work was accomplished. Like everyone we are upgrading to a smart thermostat and our old unit has no C wire to the thermostat, requested service for install from front office. They state technician will come “sometime” the next day to evaluate and provide quote for service and perform work same day if approved. Though it’s annoying to get a ridiculous window of 9a-6p arrival time, I say that’s fine because i was flexible today. I get a call from technician who is 45 min out. He thinks I want to buy a new thermostat? I said no sir we need a C wire. He quotes the most ungodly amount $1,492 (!!!!) to install a C wire over the phone. I told him that can’t be right why don’t you just come and see what we’re asking for. Technician proceeds to say he will come but we must now agree to a $99 consultation fee. What a waste of time and rip off!!! I told him we would be do business elsewhere. In summary, the front office failed to provide information to technician, and likely failed to disclose to me this obligatory consultation fee. The technician and/or the company is trying to rip off customers. And they don’t care if they waste your time. Imagine taking a full day off of work to meet their “window” only to get quoted an unreasonable price. And fwiw, I was able to successfully get quotes in the $300s for the work from two other local HVAC companies.

Friday 6th: plumber ran snake into tub drain, determined there was a problem and recommended a camera. Charge $266.10. Monday 9th: Plumber ran camera into drain determined the pipe was not connected under the tub. Proposed repair - cut hole in master bedroom wall to access, re-connect drain. $1,718. Monday 9th: Plumber came around 4pm. Cut hole in wall, stated could not access pipe and would need to remove bath tub. Tuesday 10th: Plumber came, removed toilet and bath. Cut more holes in the wall. Reconnected pipe and put bath tub back in place. Separate contractor came and re-tiled where plumber had removed tiles, repaired holes in walls. Total invoice $4,724.22 (excludes the $266 already paid. Given the amount of time spent doing the work (approx 5 hours) this equates to $1,000 per hour for a plumber and his trainee. The house was sold and due to close on Jan 10, hence I was not in a position to go out for bids or alternate solutions. The plumbers knew that this had to be completed by mid day 10th yet turned up late, left early (9th) and turned up late on 10th. Consequently had to delay closing by a day. To better understand the market rate for these services, I went for a bid on Angi to do the same thing for another property in Austin that I own. I described exactly what needed to be done (exactly what had been done by Abacus). The fixed price bid was $539.75. While I accept paying above market to Abacus, charging 9 times the market rate is outrageous. It is absolute extortion knowing that the house was due to close on the 10th giving me no alternative but to approve them moving forward with the work.

Awful company. We bought a Lennox 20 seer unit from them and nothing but issues. First Jeremy of the company claimed it would cool at the rooms within 1 degree difference. NOPE. My bedroom is 81-84F while the kitchen and living room are at 75F. No matter how many times Abacus comes out they don’t care. They haven’t bothered to install an another vent or another line or any type or fix. Instead they scheduled for a pipe cleaning tomorrow. Abacus doesn’t care that I work night shift and will lose yet more sleep again Tuesday and I bet Wednesday too since they love to send out people to “assess the situation”. This isn’t even our first issue, the first issue was the unit was as loud as a Jet when it ran. Abacus fixed that citing the project manager Jeremy didn’t leave notes that we needed a larger intake even though it’s standard to upgrade the intake for a four ton 20 seer Lennox system. Issue after issue with Abacus and I still get to sleep in heat at night. Awful company, buyer beware. They’ll make promises and not deliver. They’ll waste your time with recurring “maintenance” visits instead of actually resolving anything. Hope this company gets sued. Horrid. Waste of money, my previous unit cooled better than this.

Install went fine. Warranty and workmanship was horrible. Dear Abacus, I recently purchased a new AC System from you. It was $16,000.00 plus dollars. Lifetime warranty seems like a gimmick now. When you installed the system, you connected the overflow to a drain pipe. This drain pipe clogged and caused ceiling and electrical damage to my home. The 2 Techs that came out tell me: "Don't worry about the damage because we are "Abacus". We stand by our work!"... "Our Manager will call you in the morning to get a contractor set up". That was on May 9th. A week and several calls and hours spending my time on hold someone called me back. Only to tell me that Abacus is not paying for anything. Silviano (Mgr) tells me it's my fault and Abacus is not liable. I asked for his Managers name and number and he refused??? He tells me to go to my insurance company?? Are you kidding me? Is this how you treat your customers??? Just is not right Abacus. Dissatisfied!
