Abacus Plumbing, Air Conditioning and Electrical

The repair was done before the circuit was properly tested. The actual fault was a bad ground in the electrical panel. Abacus sold a replacement of the outlets, switches, and fixtures to replace poor quality items installed during a renovation. The items were replaced and the circuit failed completely within 30 minutes of the work being completed. The tech sent to check out the failure found the fault as soon as he opened the panel. I felt that we were duped and will not hire Abacus again for electrical work.

The water heater was replaced by courteous, experienced, professionals. The city inspector passed the project saying Abacus does good work.

On the front end everything was exceptional. 1 month in we are very pleased with the AC system. Our concern is that during installation it seems that a crew member stepped in glue. There are a number of spots on our stairs and on our flooring that have glue on it (about 1" x 2" in size). I have twice asked for a remedy to this, but a month later we have yet to receive any help in removing the glue. Does this indicate how responsive Abacus will be if we experience a problem with the HVAC system itself?

Tech said unit was low on freon. Said it wasn't serviceable. Need to buy a new unit. I called two other companies who came out and said not low and no freon needed. If freon was needed they were willing to put freon in. The R22 my unit uses has been prevented from being mfg anymore, but there is a lot out there and it isn't prohibited from using existing supply. Outside units were not cleaned as they had been in past years. I don't feel like I got my moneys worth this year. Have the same maintenance on hot water heaters. Got a big sales story on why mine were no good and I needed to spend a bunch of money on parts and labor, until I told them they put them in and still under warranty. Suddenly they were ok.

If you have a big job they come right away Small job when they have the time no matter if you are member or not. For small job i need to hire a different plumber due to the delay.

Not as thorough as advertised. First tech spent too much time selling a considerable expenditure on improvements. I answered yes on hiring them again but not sure.

Excellent work done by the plumber(s) doing the installation. Even the inspector commented positively on the thoroughness of the job for both the re-piping and installation of new water heater. Some very minor problems after work was completed but they were corrected very quickly by the plumber. The only major issue was getting the work done on time. The project was initially planned to take one week; to get the pipes finished and do the sheetrock repairs afterwards. The plumbers started on time (on a Sunday) but were late finishing up and weren't ready for the inspector when he came out Friday morning so the inspection had to be rescheduled for the following Monday. It took the drywall repair crew almost the entire week to complete their repairs and that was due to poorly managed scheduling which was not the fault of Abacus. The repair and repainting eventually got completed to my satisfaction.

Not as well as expected. The system had many problems. Had a very difficult time getting them to respond to the problems we had. Had to write a certified letter and get the Lennox manufacturer involved and then they replaced the evaporator core that was leaking ever since the installation. After this the system still did not cool properly. Finally they sent their top trouble shooter out here, his name is Dan. He eventually got the unit straightened out to where it cools properly. Comes to find out that all the troubles were caused by Abacus installers most of whom don't know how to work on this high end unit (supposed to be the best available). It is seriously unbelievable the experience we have had with Abacus. First surge protector burnt up from water leaking from evaporator core. Their service guy that came out didn't know what was wrong (hello). Their electrical installation was faulty and improper installation of surge protector caused it to burn up. After many months of the evaporator core leaking they finally brought a new one from the manufacturer. They said it was larger than the original one, which you could compare and it was larger. They said the original one was not large enough for a 5 ton unit which we had purchased. They had installed the wrong equipment. Overall they made too many mistakes. Their man Dan is the only one that demonstrated a know how to work on this equipment, disgusting it is. The last Bam service we had I told Dan the unit is blowing out too much dust. He recommended an additional filter back in the original filter housing. Well we still have an overwhelming dust problem. We got screwed on the financing deal they provided as well, damaged items in our house and outside. We managed to get them fixed but not without raising h***. Based on our experience, they charged way too much for their installation and are short on their supportive service. They cannot even manage their Bam service contract. I think I would be crazy to hire them again.

Well. The work was completed as described.

They worked well as a team to get the work done. It was done with the least disruption possible. They upgraded our circuitry to code & added convenient additions at our discretion which enhance our existing system. They provided the opportunity to do recommended upgrades, eg new for old ceiling fans, by installing them as a complementary service. They found and corrected unsafe previous work. Payment was very easily arranged & was not addressed until the work was done.

Because of emergency started installation late afternoon and finished at three am. Worked straight thru without breaks. Awesome!
