Abacus Plumbing, Air Conditioning and Electrical

I had originally received a quote from another plumber who was very indecisive on price and wasn't comfortable with the information provided on the project(quote $675 Plus $125 for every hour over). I knew the job would require removal of dry wall and I knew it would be pricey. I think the defining moment on why I went with Abacus was do to the conversation I had with Roland on what the job entailed. Roland arrived on time for the consultation and for the appointment to perform the work. He provided a detail account of what he thought would be needed to accomplish the job and even called his boss to confirm. He provided a quote and let me know that unless something catastrophic happened that it would not be more than that. Very satisfied with the service I provided from Roland and the Abacus team.

Abacus came out after hours and checked my AC after it had stopped cooling. They found that it had just reset and was operating normally. Samuel, the tech, checked everything over even though it was raining. He went over the system that I had and told me things that I should watch for and exactly what to do if it failed again. He even replaced the filter for me and told me how to inspect the filter and that I should replace it more often. I was only charged for a service call. Samuel’s professionalism and the fact that they could have charged me to repair or replace parts as is unfortunately what a dishonest tech would have done to justify the trouble. Trust is the most important factor in my opinion. No only was Samuel honest but I know that I can trust his experience as he’s been in HVAC since the age of 16. I’ve used Abacus several times and the techs are always friendly, knowledgeable, and help the homeowner to better understand their home.

Inspection revealed several problems with my water heater as well as hard water issues. All were fixed the same day. Mantenance was performed on the water heater and a hard water prevention system installed.

I called the number for Abacus, got a very pleasant receptionist, was transferred to a dispatcher who did her magic and got me an appointment for when I was able to get home. Mike was on time, he checked the system, asked me questions on what was happening and used his head to track down the problem, instead of just replacing parts and hoping it would fix it. That's basically what another unnamed company did when I called them out last month. Mike was very professional and explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it. The problem was very simple but only if you knew what you were doing, and Mike knew. He had the part and had me system up and running in short order.

Eric, technician was very professional and courteous. She was very detailed oriented in checking my AC.

Very well! The sales specialist was out same day, Friday and the crew was out next morning on Saturday. Crew was very hard workers and us back in AC comfort before night fall, a complete system upgrade with two new return air vents installed.

Quick response and even quicker resolution

Bob and Vince were the best! They were able to come out to my rental house in Houston the same day I called since it was an urgent matter. Vince had called me first and explained what they would be doing and said Bob - the master plummer - would call me with all the details. He warned me that Bob is a bit of a plumbing geek but this was a very good thing because he will dig and probe until he finds the problem. Bob did quickly figure it out and emailed me a 3 page explanation and diagnosis/estimate. The problem has been going on for a few years and would rare up every 3-4 months. I’ve had at lease 4 other plumbers come out who didn't have a clue. When Bob called me he spoke with me at length to explain the situation and what needs to be done to permanently fix the problem. He was able to tell me what had been happening rather than the other way around. The end result is that it’s not going to be cheap but I’d been expecting this for quite some time as the plumbing under that house is at least 80 years old and dilapidated. I will be using Bob and his crew to get the job done properly and protect my investment because I could tell he knows what he's talking about. In fact, I will be using Abacus for all my plumbing needs from here on out! Outstanding service!

Very good! Mr. Jimmy got an estimate one day any fixed it the next day after confirming things with me. He was also calming with my mom, who doesn't like strangers around. Him and Abacus Plumbing have helped all of us.

Dan has been taking care of my A/C for several years for system checks and maintenance. When my A/C stopped working I called Abacus. I asked for Dan but they said it was his day off. I was willing for someone else to come but instead, Abacus called Dan and he was willing to come in and take care of my home! He determined the problem went to get the part and I was cooling off in no time!

They were able to book a time about 24 hours from when I called. The leak was outdoors and only moderate so it was not an emergency. I received phone calls verifying that the plumber was on his way as well as a text with a photo of the plumber and a link to his individual profile on their website. I thought that was especially helpful to put my mind at ease since bringing a contractor into my home is always a little bit nerve-wracking. The plumber actually replaced more of the components than were required so that the full assembly would not be a mix of new and old parts, and he also weatherized them (since they are exposed to the outdoors) for free. It was clear he was motivated by his company's uber-like review system to keep his scores high, and it did make me very happy with his work.

As far as the scheduling department they were great, the tech showed up on time and the scheduler called me 30 min before and told me he was on his way. They even sent a pic of him. The guy that came out had a major attitude. He took one look at the unit and duct work and said it was $&@$ and all needed to be replaced. It’s funny the unit worked good for 17years. It just now got bad. Among just his overall negative attitude he said, “Well do you think you want to go with us because I don’t want to waste the time coming up with a bid if not”. I said well I don’t think giving me a bid is a waste of time, how will I know if I want to go with your company. Then he says his boss can’t get the correct sheetmetal......really???? and you are in the AC business. I called to speak to his boss and I still haven’t heard from him since yesterday. I got another company to come out that has probably 1000 more positive reviews and they quoted me a price $13,000 dollars less and that is including running duct work in the attic which this company said they couldn’t do and under the house.

They replaced a 3+ year old garbage disposal still under warranty. Abacus was the one that determined the disposal was under warranty. What an honest and excellent company they are!

I contact Abacus based on their commercial on TV and rating in Angie list. It was a disappointing experience. The technician did not make reasonable attempt to diagnose the issue but more like an upsell attempt of a new unit. Our problem was the AC is not cooling enough. The technician drop by our home without hooking up pressure gauge or even open up the instrument panel to diagnose the problem. He claimed we need 48 lb of freon for $530 or new condenser for $3000-5200 or new AC for even higher price. First of all, the freon capacity of our 5ton unit is 13lb. Where is he going to put in 48lbs of freon? How would he know that without checking the unit and performing proper diagnostic the issue or trying to determine the source of leak to see whether it is fixable. Obviously we are not going to hire Abacus to do the work.

I have been a customer of abacus plumbing for many years and would not use anyone else for plumbing , electrical and hvac services. They are always top notch in all areas and prices are fair. I am very particular who does work at my home and never have to worry about this company .
