A1 Plus Electrical, Heating & Air

We are doing major remodeling and a new addition onto an older home. This company was like a breath of fresh air after dealing with multiple contractors who did sloppy work. Justin obviously knows what he's doing. A previous contractor had wired some electrical receptacles incorrectly, so what should have been a 110 receptacle was actually 220 -- a potentially lethal mistake that fried a couple of small appliances. Justin was able to fix this dangerous situation inside of five minutes by switching some wires around in the breaker box. He did exactly what he said he was going to do. He always called in advance, showed up on time, his workers were very efficient, and they kept the work area clean -- all for a very fair price. They lined up all of the recessed lights perfectly, relocated a chandelier, and relocated several receptacle boxes. Justin and his team are competent, conscientious, and courteous workers who care about doing neat, quality work. We would definitely hire this company again.

AS AN UPDATE - THIS COMPANY HAS THREE FACEBOOK PAGES!! THAT ALONE SHOULD BE A WARNING TO POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS..Please don’t be fooled by the “positive” ratings this company has! In our case, if you want to lose over $2000 and lose sleep over whether or not your house is safe or not, this is the company to use! From what started as a very simple request, install 10 LED lights to the front of our house and put up a ring security camera in the back, it has become an absolute sh**show! I completely agree with everyone on here saying that they will give you a window of when they will arrive then they will change it at least once! (in our case at 6am on the day), then fail to show up for that one, then finally arrive almost at the end of the day! One guy Matt came with the two non-English speaking guys, he does all of the talking and then leaves. When the guys got to work, a couple of hours later they came and told us they were going to lunch, anyway to cut a long story short, turned out that was a lie. In fact one of the guys cut his arm with the hole-saw he had been using! He ended up in hospital getting nine stitches. We had gone out but found out later the company sent a second crew to allegedly finish the job. The lights we were putting up were to be connected to an app, the Ring security cam was the same, however, again, unbeknown to us, they either did not, or could not read the instructions because they put the Ring light up without pressing the button to pair it (now 25 feet or so up on our house) and they never removed the battery pack to charge it BEFORE install. As for the LED’s, they left that night without the lights working! They did not know anything about smart homes and could not get the lights to pair with the app, meaning the system was installed, but would not work. At that point the excuses started, first saying its not their job to make sure lights work!, only to install them!, they had also replaced a switch that day with a dimmer..we noticed that night that didn’t work either! Then they told us our wifi wasn’t strong enough (so we brought out Geek squad to check it who said we have complete coverage in the house and onto the Street level and with plenty of speed!, so we went back to A1 plus who again sent out Matthew, at this point we had already been sent their invoice on email twice and now Matt was asking if we would pay it cause he wasn’t going to leave until the lights were all working! He gave us the whole story about how the office had completely messed up the bookings and that was why they had let us down four times (yep, that day they were supposed to be here first thing too, then in an hour..then oh they are on their way..all just more lies!) Anyway Matt started to look at the system and again he couldn’t figure it out but again asked to be paid or he would be in trouble! We decided against our better judgement to pay the invoice of $2000, because at that point he had us convinced it was the lights themselves that must be the issue! That is when I told him I was hiring in an IT company to check our wifi, as soon as it was confirmed it was ok, I told Matt I was going to get a second opinion on the electrics because the IT guy told me it was a complete mess up in the attic and had I seen it? We didnt get any response from Matt, but after I put up my first review he got in touch with us telling us he had lost his phone! So we went ahead and asked two other electricians to come and see the work completed by A1 and to ask their help in finishing the jobs. When the electricians arrived they went up to the attic and took photos of what they saw, we could not believe the mess A1 plus had left our house in! They had made two large holes in our attic that led all the way to the outside! (Update, one hole now has a wasps nest built inside it), then they called us up and showed us all of the blood left behind by the A1 plus Technician over a week before! And finally the way the wiring had just been left dangling from the rafters, across our window! And not secured to the attic at all was just mind-blowing! This company knew their guy had had a serious accident in our attic, never told us!, admitted in an email later they should have told us and they should have had all of the blood cleaned up and finished the job we had paid them to do! I don’t know what the law is regarding hiring fully qualified electricians to do electrical work, or if there are protections in place to make sure the guys have the correct training and protective gear when working with these power tools, but we will be looking into that side of things too. As for the state of the wiring, we are getting in touch with the appropriate Inspectors because we know this is out of code. Excerpt from one of their emails “The wiring that was left hanging inside the attic will be stapled and cleaned up according to code requirements,”. I do not believe that had it not been for us hiring an IT Tech and then another electrician, we would ever have heard from A1 about the blood, the big gaping holes they made for no reason!, and definitely not about the wiring being outwith code – I know that, because again in their emails (which by the way, I will be more than happy to share), they confirm they want to come to the house to make things right! Well they had been at the house since this happened and not one word was said about all of these issues! They were just looking for us to pay that invoice and get out! So once we had photos and videos from the second electrician, we sent them to A1 and asked they refund us, we not only had to pay for a second company to come in, we had to have the blood all scrubbed out and insulation replaced, the dimmer switch they put up had to be changed out, the ring system had to be taken back down and fixed by the second company and all of the wiring is being checked out again because I don’t trust the quality of work from this company, certainly not when we have kids in the house! To summarize the reply from A1, they will not issue a refund, yes they acknowledge they cannot do any smart items, they acknowledge someone was hurt badly in our house and they did not say a word about it, they said the Ring was a favour because they never invoiced us for it yet we have an email asking for that to be part of the quote!, so basically their excuse for installing a light that doesn’t work, 25 feet above your house is - well that was really a favor! So I have refused their offer to come back for a fourth! Time and fix what they caused in the first place! I will be taking this further unless we receive a refund because we have now had to pay twice! For a job they made a complete mess off. Work was completed accurately and faster than I thought it would.

A-1 hooked up my generator before and did such a great job, so I had them to do some other work. They were on time, cleaned up there mess and included me in the work process by asking pertinent questions on how and where I wanted things to go.

Superb professionalism, quality, expertise, responsiveness and decent price. I can power my entire house including a 5 ton central AC off a 12 kW portable generator. I would highly recommend A1 Plus Electrical to anyone.

I’ve spent the last 4.5 months trying to get someone to have the owner call me about multiple issues with the quality of work, billing mistakes, and things that were not correctly repaired. They even charged my credit card for the above *without my authorization* six weeks after the service was performed! At this point, I feel I have made every reasonable effort to resolve this with no responses. Please let everyone know how unethical this company has been.

Not yet decided on the company still getting bids however; pleased in their professionalism and trun-around time in getting their quote.

Technician came out promptly. He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and respectful. Very good company and very reasonable price

I had a bathroom outlet that was no longer working. Justin came in and diagnosed the problem quickly, about 15 min, and explained what would need to be done to fix it (he claimed the estimate would be free). What was needed was simply a new (gfi) outlet needed to be installed - but he made it seem like it was alot more involved.. He then provided an estimate of $200. When I asked how much the part cost, he immediately dropped the price to $150 and got pushy as if this was the going rate for this sort of service. So taking his advice, I allowed him to perform the service. It took him another 10 min to install the new gfi outlet. The following day, without having him push me into a sale, I looked up and found the top tier gfi outlet was ~$20, max. Which means he charged me $130 for his 10 min of labor. I called him and confronted him about the price gouging, and when I asked to see a price break down of exactly what I was charged for, he refused to send me anything further than saying that he and his company "charge by the project" and the more than $750/hour rate, was to cover the business's overhead. I will NEVER hire A-1 again, and I would recommend anyone who would like to pay a fair price for the service to do the same.
