A-1 Overhead Doors

They put the first fence up correct, and the second fence was higher than the first, making it uneven. I was notified that the gate could come loose in the future. Their was a curb on the side w/ the handle to straighten the bar. When the bolts were screwed in they were too fat. He need to touch up the bolts with spray paint that did not match the fence. It looked terrible and also we have to slam the gate to close fence.

Very unpleasant experience, Prize quoted over the phone different from what was told when the workman was at my home (much higher). Agressive selling on site. Attempt to charge for tax on labor (which does not exist in Texas). Workman and ladies in head office aggressive attitude. Later I had a chance to compare prices and they offered to replace my motor fo $650,- I had it done by KTM Doors Control Inc. who only charged me $400,- for the same Beltdrive motor. On the job A-1 did they charged me $20,- per roller which KTM doors would have only charged me $5.50 per roller. I will never do business with A-1 again!

I wish I had joined Angie's List BEFORE hiring these people. The salesman was professional and friendly enough on the initial visit. I was only able to get three estimates (two others stood me up) and their's was right in the middle. He could not give me a start date for the job, but promised it would be no later than the Thursday following our agreement. However, after canceling twice, they DID begin the job later than promised (no rain or inclement weather). They proceeded to set appointments only to cancel them 3 times over the next week, before finally coming out to set the panels. They then called me on a day when it was pouring rain to say they'd be out there in an hour to paint and have me inspect the final job. Nevermind that they gave me no advance notice in the middle of the work day, but when I told the receptionist I was not comfortable with them painting in the rain, she came across like I was putting them out with some special request. Who paints in the rain??? They came out again the next day to paint in the rain (again no advance notice), but fortunately the installers had more common sense than the people running that place and decided against it (after I raced home). Additionally, the salesman (Kevin) insisted that I had to get plastic finials for the fence, even though I explicitely state twice that I did not want them. He told me the finials were included in the price (they would not discount the price for excluding them) and my only other option was to upgrade to more expensive finials. When I told the company (mid-project) that I really didn't want them on and couldn't remove them myself (they were really on tight!), he returned the call and proceeded to mock me -no joke. He quoted me some ridiculous price to have them swapped out for caps and laughed repeatedly over the phone that I couldn't afford it. Caps??? Where was that option when I insisted (twice) that I did not want finials? Bottom line: They are NOT punctual, they DO NOT take work schedules into consideration by giving advance notice, and their salesman is one of the BIGGEST JERKS I've come across in some time. The qualify of the work was fair, but not at the level their website indicated. At the end, I didn't want to deal with the bully salesman anymore and just wrote the final check. No one should be pushed around for that kind of money. Keep your dignity and go with someone else.

10 months later I got a bill for $170. Thinking it's a clerical error I immediately called them. The woman in their billing department argued the bill was for work done. When I insisted there was NO work done by her crew, she changed her story and said it was their service call fee. She insisted I pay the bill. I did not pay the bill because, if indeed they charge $170 for a service call, this was not disclosed in my original conversation with the company. And if they had, I would have called someone else. Who charges $170 for a service call?! Apparently Custom Fence/A-1 Overhead Doors. Either that or they were being dishonest with me.
