While San Antonio General Contractors did the work and we made our payments for the job, they did not respond to repeated calls and emails over the next six to nine months to address poor work that while might appear minor 1) Wood work that cracked and fell off on the roof of the outdoor kitchen/patio area.and 2) masonary cracks appeared in a several areas where stone cladding was applied to the outdoor kitchen areas. These areas of concern appeared one to two months after they completed their work and yes, received their payment.
My major concern over the last year with San Antonio General Contractors is that they repeatedly ignored multiple phone calls that we made and emails sent requesting that they at least come on out to look at or address the shortcomings in the work that they performed. Once they received their payment their interest sadly in listening to or addressing these relatively minor deficiencies in their work was totally unprofessional due to their total lack of any response.
The job took them a few hours. They didn't bring enough clips with them and they had to run to the store and buy more.
I was a little uneasy about giving them all the payment upfront with no guarantee that they would come back but they seemed like it was so quick and easy that it would be no big deal so I didn't say anything. Then I realized what was going on when they called to schedule a time to take the lights down and informed me that it would cost $100 to do so! This was my first time hiring someone to put up lights so this shocked me. I have since discovered that this is not an uncommon practice but I know for a fact that I was clearly asking questions about payment and about take down and how the job works and they did not at anytime in the conversation mention that the quote was only for putting up lights and that take-down was an additional cost.
When I explained this them, they offered no apology or discount or remedy to this situation in anyway. At this point, I would rather pay another company $100 to take down the lights then work with a company that doesn't clearly state their cost break-down or care that they failed to inform someone of additional costs.
My wife agrees to meet someone at a parking lot on the other side of town to sign a contract and give them a check for half up front. They FAILED to show up. After tracking them down, they apologize and state someone will come to our house to look at the yard that afternoon. Not sure why, as we already had an estimate. They failed to show again. We told them not to bother and received a text that simply said "Thank you" the following day.
AWFUL EXPERIENCE.
In response to the company's response:
He stated that:
“I received a couple of phone calls from Mr. Kliner 2-3 days after the sod was installed stating that the grass was not as green as his wife wanted it. I told him that he should stay off of it and keep watering it till it was established.” – We did as he suggested. However, my wife was agitated with the brown and gray spots because we were hosting our wedding in the backyard. I believe that any bride has a right to want the setting to be picture-perfect.
“I never heard from him again until now...” - This point is simply not true. My wife and I both continued to call Mr. Martinez’s for over month (the last call was in the second week of September) asking his advice and to fix the grass that had turned gray. I have the phone bill that documents these calls.
“…on his complaint that he is giving us an F on every category and that the complaint service price range is 6,500.00. He only paid 2,500 for the Sod Installation which proves that he is trying to make us look bad on Angie's List”. - We did pay SAGC $6,500 for; grass installation, landscape lighting, motion sensor security lighting, patio lighting, fence staining, and a sprinkler system. Mr. Martinez’s sub contracted all but the grass installation and he chose his contractors well. We have the receipt and bank statement to back this up. We also have the receipt for the grass we bought prior to the wedding to replace the dead grass.
“We do not provide a guarantee on Sod Installation because of this exact issue… Mr. Kliner was well aware of this and knew that we do not offer a Warranty on Sod Installation.” – I am aware of this. As he said we are not asking him to replace the grass but to fix the grading.
“I spoke with Mr. Kliner on the phone and he admitted that he stopped watering in October...” – I believe Mr. Martinez misunderstood me when I stated we turn the sprinklers to the “seasonal” setting and only recently turned them off (for about a week) because we have mold growing in our back yard due to the grading issues. Again, I have the water bill history that proves we did not “stop” watering the lawn.
"We installed sod for member back on August 11th 2011, and provided him with other services as well. I received a couple of phone calls from the member 2-3 days after the sod was installed stating that the grass was not as green as his wife wanted it. I told him that he should stay off of it and keep watering it till it was established. I never heard from him again until now, 8 months later. He states on his complaint that he is giving us an F on every category and that the complaint service price range is 6,500.00. He only paid 2,500 for the Sod Installation which proves that he is trying to make us look bad on Angie's List. We do not provide a guarantee on Sod Installation because of this exact issue. If a Customer does not water for and take care of the grass, it will die and they cannot expect for us to replace it. The member was well aware of this and knew that we do not offer a Warranty on Sod Installation. I spoke with the member on the phone and he admitted that he stopped watering in October which means that he has not watered the grass for 6 months. In San Antonio, we must water our lawns year round and he knows that. He also stated that the grass is not dead but that it is not as green as he would like it to be and that there is a spot in the back yard that holds water that is creating a moldy substance. I shared my thoughts concerning this issue with him. He told me that he does not expect me to replace the sod but would like for me to stop by and share my expertise with them to see how they can improve the look of their lawn and drainage issue. P.S. I also spoke with MRS. The member 2 days ago and I do not like the way she talks down to me and demands that I replace their entire yard for free which they neglected to take care of. If I can help in sharing my expertise and advice on how they can improve the look of their lawn, I would rather speak and deal with MR. The member only."
