This contractor did not show up on time -- or at all -- and did not call in advance. I took off of work to meet this contractor and was given a two-hour window. The office called the day prior to confirm. And even then, the estimator did not show up. I left a message asking where the contractor was, but the office was closed early for the day and my call was returned two days later. They said the estimator had a family emergency. I get that -- things come up. But no one communicated this to me until two days later? Even after I called? That's just annoying. And making things worse, they said that they would not be able to come back out for another week because they had too many appointments. So I had to get back at the end of the line. Wrong. That sends a clear message to me that they didn't care about my business. And frankly, after reading the reviews for this vendor, I'm very thankful they were unable to make it out.
Description of Work: The contractor was supposed to give me a bid on creating a curb and berm on my driveway, install about 350 sq ft of flagstone and conduct related work.

Poor quality of work. 6 months after service, much of the sod was dead and thinning and one sprinkler zone malfunctioning. The sloping of the lawn was incorrect, which led to flooding on our porch following heavy rain. No response from this company after leaving messages to investigate their "warranty" for work. 18 months later, much of the sod is dead now and continues to thin. Two sprinkler zone are not malfunctioning. Weeds are invading all areas of rock landscaping. The fence gaits installed needed repaired. I would never recommend these people to anyone.

San Antonio General Contractors came out and we agreed on the price and construction services for an outdoor kitchen. While San Antonio General Contractors did the work and we made our payments for the job, they did not respond to repeated calls and emails over the next six to nine months to address poor work that while might appear minor 1) Wood work that cracked and fell off on the roof of the outdoor kitchen/patio area.and 2) masonary cracks appeared in a several areas where stone cladding was applied to the outdoor kitchen areas. These areas of concern appeared one to two months after they completed their work and yes, received their payment. My major concern over the last year with San Antonio General Contractors is that they repeatedly ignored multiple phone calls that we made and emails sent requesting that they at least come on out to look at or address the shortcomings in the work that they performed. Once they received their payment their interest sadly in listening to or addressing these relatively minor deficiencies in their work was totally unprofessional due to their total lack of any response.

When they came over I very clearly asked them about the procedure for taking down the lights. I asked if I pay them half up front and then the other half when they come to take down the lights. They said "No, you pay it all up front" and that is all they said. I then asked if they would call me after Christmas about scheduling the take down and they said yes, they would call to schedule it, come by and take it down- quick and easy. No other explanation was given. The job took them a few hours. They didn't bring enough clips with them and they had to run to the store and buy more. I was a little uneasy about giving them all the payment upfront with no guarantee that they would come back but they seemed like it was so quick and easy that it would be no big deal so I didn't say anything. Then I realized what was going on when they called to schedule a time to take the lights down and informed me that it would cost $100 to do so! This was my first time hiring someone to put up lights so this shocked me. I have since discovered that this is not an uncommon practice but I know for a fact that I was clearly asking questions about payment and about take down and how the job works and they did not at anytime in the conversation mention that the quote was only for putting up lights and that take-down was an additional cost. When I explained this them, they offered no apology or discount or remedy to this situation in anyway. At this point, I would rather pay another company $100 to take down the lights then work with a company that doesn't clearly state their cost break-down or care that they failed to inform someone of additional costs.
Description of Work: I hired this company to put up my Christmas lights. I have a two story home and also a bush that I wanted lights on. They had put up my neighbors lights and I got their card from my neighbors.

I initially called this company before getting on Angie's list. They were prompt about responding to my call and I had an individual come out within three days to perform a free estimate. I was told that he would arrive at 10 am. That day came and at 10 am no one was showed up. I called the company at 11 and they told me that it was a 10-12 window and that he was on his way. He showed up within that window. Things are looking better. I informed him of what I wanted to be done to my home, kitchen remodel, new floors, etc. He took the measurements and went on his way fairly quickly. I asked him when the estimate would be done, he said within 48 hours. This was on a Friday. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited until Tuesday around noon and called. They stated that he got delayed and he would have it by late the same day or the next morning. I called the next afternoon without the estimate and this time they told me it would be there this afternoon. The next day I called still stating I hadn't received it and cancelled their service.

I'm not really even sure that SAGC wanted our business. We were given an estimate. We decided to go with SAGC, so we called them as per the email estimate. Two business days pass and we call and email several times. We write them off, then they contact us and apologize. My wife agrees to meet someone at a parking lot on the other side of town to sign a contract and give them a check for half up front. They FAILED to show up. After tracking them down, they apologize and state someone will come to our house to look at the yard that afternoon. Not sure why, as we already had an estimate. They failed to show again. We told them not to bother and received a text that simply said "Thank you" the following day. AWFUL EXPERIENCE.
Description of Work: We attempted to have them to put in a new lawn for us. Couldn't get it done although we put in quite an effort to give them business.

Jesse promised us a green lawn for our wedding. He installed new sod on August 11th that was brown and ensured us it would be green by the wedding. We called him weekly to let him know it had not turned green yet. He told us to give it time. On September 8th and 10th we had to replace part of the sod that had turned grey and was clearly dead. We called him to see how he would like to handle it (many phone calls) and he never returned our calls again. Once it turned cold we hoped the grass was just dormant and would return in the Spring. Needless to say Spring came and the grass never turned fully green and there is a drainage problem in the backyard that causes the lawn to flood when it rains. Currently the grass is growing mold in the back. We have contacted Jesse again and will see if he will make things right. In response to the company's response: He stated that: “I received a couple of phone calls from Mr. Kliner 2-3 days after the sod was installed stating that the grass was not as green as his wife wanted it. I told him that he should stay off of it and keep watering it till it was established.” – We did as he suggested. However, my wife was agitated with the brown and gray spots because we were hosting our wedding in the backyard. I believe that any bride has a right to want the setting to be picture-perfect. “I never heard from him again until now...” - This point is simply not true. My wife and I both continued to call Mr. Martinez’s for over month (the last call was in the second week of September) asking his advice and to fix the grass that had turned gray. I have the phone bill that documents these calls. “…on his complaint that he is giving us an F on every category and that the complaint service price range is 6,500.00. He only paid 2,500 for the Sod Installation which proves that he is trying to make us look bad on Angie's List”. - We did pay SAGC $6,500 for; grass installation, landscape lighting, motion sensor security lighting, patio lighting, fence staining, and a sprinkler system. Mr. Martinez’s sub contracted all but the grass installation and he chose his contractors well. We have the receipt and bank statement to back this up. We also have the receipt for the grass we bought prior to the wedding to replace the dead grass. “We do not provide a guarantee on Sod Installation because of this exact issue… Mr. Kliner was well aware of this and knew that we do not offer a Warranty on Sod Installation.” – I am aware of this. As he said we are not asking him to replace the grass but to fix the grading. “I spoke with Mr. Kliner on the phone and he admitted that he stopped watering in October...” – I believe Mr. Martinez misunderstood me when I stated we turn the sprinklers to the “seasonal” setting and only recently turned them off (for about a week) because we have mold growing in our back yard due to the grading issues. Again, I have the water bill history that proves we did not “stop” watering the lawn.
Description of Work: Jesse installed a sprinkler system, dead zoysia grass, several landscaping beds, stained our fence, and did some exterior electrical work.

Response from San Antonio General Contractors
We installed sod for member back on August 11th 2011, and provided him with other services as well. I received a couple of phone calls from the member 2-3 days after the sod was installed stating that the grass was not as green as his wife wanted it. I told him that he should stay off of it and keep watering it till it was established. I never heard from him again until now, 8 months later. He states on his complaint that he is giving us an F on every category and that the complaint service price range is 6,500.00. He only paid 2,500 for the Sod Installation which proves that he is trying to make us look bad on Angie's List. We do not provide a guarantee on Sod Installation because of this exact issue. If a Customer does not water for and take care of the grass, it will die and they cannot expect for us to replace it. The member was well aware of this and knew that we do not offer a Warranty on Sod Installation. I spoke with the member on the phone and he admitted that he stopped watering in October which means that he has not watered the grass for 6 months. In San Antonio, we must water our lawns year round and he knows that. He also stated that the grass is not dead but that it is not as green as he would like it to be and that there is a spot in the back yard that holds water that is creating a moldy substance. I shared my thoughts concerning this issue with him. He told me that he does not expect me to replace the sod but would like for me to stop by and share my expertise with them to see how they can improve the look of their lawn and drainage issue. P.S. I also spoke with MRS. The member 2 days ago and I do not like the way she talks down to me and demands that I replace their entire yard for free which they neglected to take care of. If I can help in sharing my expertise and advice on how they can improve the look of their lawn, I would rather speak and deal with MR. The member only.

Estimator arrived took measurements, 1 week later still no call or email with estimate. What a waste of my time.
Description of Work: Called for estimate....made appointment...no show at appointed time. Called them 2 hours after appointment to verify....Estimator was on his way. There should have been a phone call to update customer.

No Call No Show
Description of Work: No Call No Show! I called their office and spoke to the receptionist. I wasn't sure if they did the type of work I was looking to be done. I need wood railing on my porch. She stated that do that work and scheduled an appointment. She was very nice, we had some things in common. I ended the call after all was discussed. She returned my phone call a couple minutes later to advise if I had any questions or concerns prior to the appointment that I should contact Jesse. Well, the appointment date came and went and this Jesse guy never showed up. My husband was off and I asked him to stay at home between 3 and 5 pm, but instead he ended up wasting his time. I arrived home at 5:30 pm only to find out this person was a No Call No Show. I called the office and I left a message asking why this person did not show up. Well, I haven't received a call back since I left that voicemail. I will no longer call this company!

They did an excellent job. They were very well priced and did everything they promised within the timeframe that they promised. They used rebar, which I didn't have before, which was a very good way to do driveways. If I had to give them a 1-10 I would give them a 9.5!
