 + -1 moreJoe responded to the call and did troubleshooting on the wall-mounted opener. He found that the wires were crimped inside the wall and straightened and reattached them. He also straightened the metal runners at the bottom of the door to quiet the door during opening and closing and greased and tuned all 3 doors. After he left, we still had intermittent problems with the door opener not functioning properly. We called FCD and Joe came back that afternoon. He found that the wires at the ceiling mounted unit had frayed and repaired it without additional charge. This company is highly rated on Angie's for good reason and we're glad we contaced them.
Description of Work: Repaired one garage door where the doorbell style wall-mounted opener wasn't functioning properly. Did tune-ups to this door and two others.

 + -1 moreI think in the end the service turned out well. The garage door is working well and is quieter. The only thing is I felt they found more things to change then maybe needed. I do think I saved some money on the repairs I had due to the coupon but not sure I needed all the repairs. The guy was very friendly. I am assuming he was sincere about finding things that were wrong. What he did, did help. He was courteous, knowledgeable, and prepared to fix everything on the spot. I did question him about the amount I was paying and he told me it would have been much more then that.

 + -1 moreI backed out of the garage without the garage being all the way up and knocked it out of wack. Called Tony and he was able to send a technician out the very same day. The technician called me about 20 minutes before arrival and arrived very professional. His name was Louis and he had an assistant who was also very professional. Louis went over a couple of options with me and explained in detail what needed to be done, as well as some possible upgrades we could do. He did not make me feel pressured to purchase any of the upgrades. As a matter of fact, I remember him saying word for word, "I'm not here to make you spend a lot of money." I told him that I wanted to go ahead and replace to springs & new rollers and then I decided to add a keypad. The overall price was more than I expected but as I said I wanted to do the upgrades, the money was worth what I needed to have done. Louis and his assistant were done in about an hour and the door is now more quiet than ever before! The professionalism and quality of work they provided was second to none and I will use them for all of my future garage doors, but hopefully I won't have any! Thank you for being so prompt and professional!

When the conversion was done, the horizontal door tracks, and springs were remove and a wall was built inside the garage in front of the garage doors. I removed the wall and called Family Christian Doors for an estimate to replace tracks and springs to make the garage doors work again. They came out the next day to give an estimate. After I approved the work, they again came out the next day to do the work. The workers were polite and professional and the doors now work perfectly.

 + -1 moreI accidently backed my car up when the garage door was not completely open. It knocked the door off the tract and bent it. It would not open or close. This happened on a weekend but they still responed quickly and did not charge for a weekend rate. The service men we professional and did the repairs quickly. The price they charged was fair. I would definately use them again.

 + -1 moreAlthough this wasn't an emergency, they treated it like one...super quick, super responsive, on time. Everything was installed and worked perfectly. He spent quite a bit of time explaining how everything worked and what signals, beeps, flashing/blinking lights mean what...I'm sure it's all in the manual (hopefully, because I only retained half of what he said). He was very nice and apologized for breaking the light bulb that was in my old garage motor; he even cleaned it up himself; I told him it wasn't a big deal and appreciated his honesty. The one minor complaint I do have though, was I inquired about a faux wood door, veneer or something, it did not have to be premium thick real wood by any means, I just wanted a replacement door that looks like wood. He insisted that I'm still looking at the $6,000 range. I just knew that couldn't be right. I also wanted to see examples, a book I could flip through or a website designed to view different options and pricing but I was told to come down to their office to see examples. Unfortunately I didn't find the time to make that trip. Anyway I went with a faux wood look/decently insulated garage door from Home Depot for $1600 installed price...that's all I wanted! Something cheap. And I know I made that clear to Christian Doors. But maybe Christian Doors really don't offer anything in that price range, but I wouldn't know because their prices online are unlisted and I would have to take a road trip to their office or call and chat with them to find that information out. Regardless of that, I would still use Christian Doors, especially if I have a coupon - I think they're pricey (or try to be) but for the most part they seem worth it.
Description of Work: 1/2 HP Belt drive garage door motor (only) installed; I used the coupon from AngiesList to set the price that also includes two remotes and a keypad installed.

 + -1 moreI found them on Angie's and noticed the numerous straight-A reviews. They don't charge extra for weekend work, but my tenants needed them to come on Monday, after all. The technician showed up on time and gave me an estimate after assessing the various problems. I live out of town, so this was on the phone. He gave me a complete breakdown of the costs without being asked, and that was nice. He waited 15 minutes while I made some calls to ensure I had the funds for payment. I was able to pay on the phone with my debit card, and they emailed me the invoice. He was courteous, thorough, professional, and seemed to do very good work. He also explained the warranty details. Now that everything is truly fixed, my tenants are very pleased with the working of the garage door. It's suddenly smooth and quiet, and there is no more sheet rock dust from the ceiling. Because of my disappointment about the handing of that special problem, I have downgraded my review. This family-owned company does have some strong points, but I would choose someone else next time. They have numerous Angie's List awards, and they apparently don't feel the need to please every customer at this point.
Description of Work: Replaced two large overhead springs that operate the automatic garage door. Replaced the rollers that go in the tracks. Replaced one track that had been set out of alignment and was causing problems. Replaced loose hardware in various places. Checked that all was functioning as expected before payment. Update: We were having trouble with the garage ceiling and thought it might be related to FCD's work, so the tech came out and looked at it and took photos. He correctly diagnosed the problem as the ceiling joists above the sheet rock. It was not a very serious problem, it turned out, but this indeed was the cause of a 2"sag in the ceiling, which resulted in the mechanism cutting into the ceiling every time the door opened and closed, sprinkling sheet rock dust onto the cars. We hired a carpenter to strengthen the joists and add more, and this raised the ceiling, eliminating the problem. The tech offered to remove and replace the track and control box on the ceiling, since the carpenter thought it looked a little specialized--and it turned out to be. (This needed to be done in order to patch a hole that had inadvertently been punched into the sheet rock when the tech & our tenant were trying to determine if the sheet rock was secure against the joist.) He didn't charge, but we paid him anyway. He was no longer with FCD at this point and was just doing it to be helpful, since he'd originally thought that simply replacing the track might solve the problem (which it didn't). When I'd called about having someone come out and help the carpenter, I spoke to Joe Riley at FCD. He said that, since my tenant was present when the ceiling was accidentally punctured, FCD was not responsible and would have to charge me to go out there--two trip charges, one for the start of the job and one for replacing the hardware later. His tone and attitude were neither polite nor helpful. He was not interested in our problem. Because of this, we won't be hiring FCD again.

This young man was very impressive and obviously knew his business very well. He arrived on time, was polite and informative. I was given a complete overview of what was wrong with my door, what needed to be done and what it was going to cost. I agreed with the plan and Micah very promptly completed the repairs to my total satisfaction. I would recommend this company with complete confidence. Ask for Micah and you will be well taken care of.
Description of Work: Our garage door came off its tracks after a tension wire snapped. We had to have the main springs replaced, the wire replaced and the tension adjusted. Also, a new bracket connecting the door to the chain motor was installed.

 + -1 moreCalled this company about installing a new driveway gate approx Tues 4/16. First, they canceled on coming out on Friday 4/19 and said they would come out the following week to look at my pre-existing driveway gate and give me estimate. Never heard anything from them. So, Thursday 4/25 I called to see if they made it out to my home to look at my driveway gate. They never made it out to my place and I ask if they are going to make it out to look at my driveway gate and give me an estimate. The company seemed they weren't that interested. To make a long story short, they finally got out to my home according to the company, but til this day still nothing. No phone call back, no email, nothing. I definitely will not use this company now or the future. Lesson learned.

 + -1 moreAfter my failed attempt using our home warranty, I contacted one of the highest rated companies for garage doors on Angies List, Family Christian Doors. I called around 1 and they were here around 4:15. Micah arrived, quickly assessed the situation and came up with options for me depending on how much I wanted to spend from $149 to $649 for a whole new door. Today I wanted to spend the least amount possible yet still be able to open and close my garage door. He explained in detail the work he would do and when he was finished showed me what he had done to fix the door.
Description of Work: Micah came and fixed the garage door by getting it back on track and re-connecting the cable and adjusting the springs.

It was late in the afternoon and I was hoping they might be able to fit me in, as I didn't want to have the garage door up all night. They were able to give me an appointment between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. The technician (Ryan) called before he came and arrived when he said he would. He looked it over, told me what needed to be done and gave me the price. He said he could do the job and it wouldn't take all that long. He quickly got to work and replaced the part, installed two new cables (stronger than the old cables) and fixed the wheel that had come off the track. He even took the initiative to lubricate the springs, as they were a little rusty and squeaky. It seems like we have a new garage door! I appreciated the company's responsiveness and professionalism - plus everyone I spoke with was just plain nice. We will use them again in the future and I will recommend them to anyone needing garage door work or replacement.
Description of Work: The mechanism (trolly) that runs up the middle of the garage door track was hanging in two different spots when the door was on the way up. With help, the door would jump those spots and be ok until the part could be replaced... or so we thought. The door ended up skewing to one side and a wheel came off. One of the cables was also partially shredded. I was able to get the door all the way up, but there was no way to close it. At this point, the job was much larger than just replacing the one part, and my husband was out of town.
