Not very well, unfortunately. I felt like we were ripped off. Even when I called the owner, I was blown off. We paid ( in addition to the Angie's List deal) over $500 for them to repair the garage door. Worked 2-3 times and quit working again. Called them back out for a redo. Same thing. It only worked a few times. When I called the owner to let them know I felt ripped off, he informed me that they had done everything right and given us a fair deal. We were just expecting too much. Sorry, but I don't think it is too much to ask for a working garage door after investing over $500. I would NEVER recommend this company or use them EVER AGAIN! Save your money. Go elsewhere or fix it yourself!
Description of Work: We needed the garage door looked at along with minor repair.

Response from Family Christian Doors
This review is not only completely false, but also shocking that we received this review. Our technician went out to the location on time, the day the appointment was scheduled. This customer had several issues with both the garage door and operator. We spoke to the customer on site, went over all options. The customer was aware that both the door and the operator needed to be repaired but it was more important to fix the garage door first, as you do not want to repair an opener because a faulty door could cause damage to it. We repaired the garage door at $457 and left with a very happy customer. The customer called in the next day and the chain had came off of the operator, we booked them immediately - put the chain on the operator at no charge and left (also discussed with customer repairing the operator in the future.) Left the location again with a very happy customer. Almost a full month later, we receive this review. We called out to customer to see what happened, apparently after we left another household member was not happy that we were given certain approval to do certain work. All of which was out of our control, we did exactly what the homeowner at the location that day wanted us to do. We tried several times to contact this customer and we requested for them to remove the false information in the review and they refused.

The service we received was beyond what I was expecting. The technician was very nice and courteous and informed me of everything he was doing. He didn't do anything that I didn't authorize first. I never felt like they tried to upsell me on anything uneeded.
Description of Work: They replaced the springs on both garage doors and reinforced everything. They lubricated all the parts and did a comprehensive service on both doors.

The gentleman who showed up was very nice and cordial. He walked me through what he was doing as he did it. (I was working in the garage, not watching over his shoulder :) ) I have a second garage door I will be reaching out to have them repair as well. I couldn't have asked for a nicer tech

It turned out well, but it ended up costing an additional $99 because we had to have new rollers put on the garage door. The determination after he checked the door was that the rollers needed to be replaced and now the door is working just fine now. It was a very, very, nice tech that handled it. His name was Bryan Corder. He was excellent.

Bought the $24 garage door tune up coupon. When I called to schedule the appointment, I informed them that I needed all batteries in the opener and remotes replaced as it's been about 3 years and I was unable to do it myself. I mentioned this again to the technician when he arrived. He said he doesn't normally carry batteries but had some because he'd had to change his wife's opener's batteries recently. He inspected the door and showed me several places where metal was cracking and indicated the proper braces had not been installed with the original door (purchased from and installed by another company), which caused the metal stress. He told me repairs and reinforcements he could do to alleviate the cracking, for about $360. I asked what a new door would cost. He said about $750. I had the repairs made as I couldn't afford a new door and was concerned about the cracks. He only had batteries to change one of the opener remotes, but showed me how to open it and change it myself - which I did later on the 2nd remote. He informed me the unit itself doesn't have a battery in it. I told him the keypad had stopped operating. He helped me re-program the code in it. I was happy with the repairs, although I hadn't expected to pay more than for the tune up. I was disappointed that the information about changing batteries had not been passed along so that he would have them with him. I had several grease spots to wipe up on the garage floor and door afterwards. I also noticed the opener operation is noisier now. Not as happy as with my first experience with them - when they installed the opener in 2013. But I'd use them again.
Description of Work: Bought the $24 garage door tune up coupon. When I called to schedule the appointment, I informed them that the keypad had stopped working and that I wanted all batteries in the opener and remotes replaced as it's been about 3 years and I was unable to determine how to do it myself. I couldn't tell from the paperwork whether or not there was a battery in the opener unit that needed to be changed.

Their prices are slightly high. I had to have them come a second time and had to pay a higher price the second time for them to fix the original problem. It wasn't cheap. I asked why they installed the wrong garage door and they came to fix the garage door, but charged me for it. I checked out Home Depot and the hardware was cheaper than what they charged me. They charged $300 for the hardware and $600 for the labor.
Description of Work: They replaced the spring, bracket and the whole motor on the garage door. The original came out and installed the wrong garage door.

The technician, Chris S., explained the pros and cons of repair vs replacement. He was not pushy about the choice of installing a new lift motor. He was good about communicating his arrival times and gave advance notifications. Work was prompt and professional. He explained the new system controls and set them to our preferences. He cleaned up and left no mess on the garage floor.

Called 15 minutes before arriving so let me know - great! Started by telling me everything that was wrong with my garage door! Obviously wanted to get more than just do the work I asked for. Tried to replace some parts but was not successful. But, did find a small wiring problem and fixed it with no extra charge because the door was working well before he started working on it but afterwards it started acting up. Finally figured out it was a bad connection on a wire so he fixed he but didn't charge anything. Would be better if he just came and did the work I asked for then made recommendations and gave me a written estimate of what he thought I should do to get the door in shape. I don't appreciate a hard sell before even the work paid for is done! Not the cleanest worker, had grease all over the door but did grudgingly clean it up after I pointed it out. On the whole not a bad experience and I would at least get a quote from them when the time comes to do repairs or replace the door.

The gentleman that came out to do the simple Garage Door tune-up did a hard sell telling me I should replace the springs and all the rollers as the door was extremely dangerous. The door is in good working order we had had it inspected before we purchased the home a couple of months before. He wanted to scare me into buying over $400 of repairs that were not needed. This is the first time this has ever happened with an Angie's List Vendor.

I apologize you did not receive an A rated service. During the $24 tune up our technicians list the recommendations in order to keep your garage door working in great condition. He did recommend replacing the rollers and the springs for $347. We never try to scare any of our customers. We just recommend, and repair if the customer agrees to any work. I am happy we were able to complete the garage door tune up that you had purchased from Angie's List.

Good thing first: Technician came on time, told me that tune up service not going to help with all the noise produced by old garage opener, not door itself. Suggested me to apply paid amount toward replacing the garage opener. Suggested me to think about it, and also hinted that they have quiet opener for approximately $350 installed. I decided to go for it, believing his promise to "honor" amount I paid via Angies list. It took him about 1 hour to replace garage opener, "everything" was installed properly and working nice.. Now BAD: He charged me $350 and refused to take amount I paid already, saying that originally it was $400 and he is giving me discount of $50, which was not the same as he said at the beginning. He said, that for the price of $350 I CANNOT EVEN BUY the system alone left alone the labor cost. This is TOTAL LIE as system he installed in the hardware store cost $240. I can understand $100 for quality installation, but not a blatant lie. Alos, he gave me only ONE remote, saying, that most manufacturers who provide WiFi connectivity via smartphone provide only SINGLE remote. Which is also a LIE. Chamberlein garage opener comes with 2 (TWO) remotes and outside numeric panel in the box. After he left, I also discovered that he didn't install outside keypad. When I called him, he was pretty rude and said that I need to look at the invoice, before I sign it, as invoice says clearly "One garage door Opener and One remote". On top of that, he didn't told me that this garage opener is not going to work with my cars embedded "Homelink" buttons and I will need extra device ( bridge) to make it work. Not very professional, if you ask me. So , I had to spend extra $100 to buy keypad ~$40, extra remote $30 and bridge $30 , and some time to research and figure things out. So , it it NOT PROFESSIONAL approach - lying and pretty much "stealing" items from the box I paid for. And definitely not "christian"

I am sorry for any confusion. For the belt drive unit our promotional package does come with 1 remote. He did discount the unit which was including the prepaid Angie's List coupon. He noted the credit on the invoice as well. We typically charge $150 for a customer provided operator. We in no way "stole" anything out of the box. That is what that specific unit came with. As for the homelink, that is a built in program embedded in your vehicle. Some vehicles require an extra repeater to program- we have no way of knowing that until we attempt to program your specific vehicle. That is out of our control. We never want our customers to feel as if they did not receive the best absolute service. If you would like, you can always contact Louis our technician supervisor to discuss further. Thank you

Lubricated all moving parts. Balanced door for proper weight by adjusting the springs. Tightened hinges and made adjustments as necessary. Reset opener settings for force and distance so that door operates correctly. Family Christian Door contacted me promptly to setup an appointment. Hathan called to let me know that he was on his way. He arrived on time and was very professional and knowledgable. He went right to work using his vast skills to bring our garage door back to as-new operation. He suggested, but did not push, some things that might be done in the future such as nylon rollers with ball bearings and replacement of the bottom rubber seal. Nathan was very friendly and helpful. He explained everything he was doing as he went about the job. I am extremely pleased with his work.
