Description of Work: When our 16 year old refrigerator stopped cooling on the evening before Thanksgiving we called locally and were told they didn't repair refrigerators and were referred to Dave's in Commerce. We called Dave's the morning of the day after Thanksgiving and even so they called back promptly and scheduled a time later that day! The repairman turned out to be Dave himself. He was a wealth of knowledge and a speedy repairman. He knew this make and model and presumably its competitors, as well. We were up and running in a very short time and all for a reasonable charge. We highly recommend Dave's for appliance needs. We will not trade elsewhere.

Checked the electric plug, then that all the elements were getting power, working his way methodically through the heating system of the dryer, eliminating as he went. Great top down approach. Found the monitor and replaced. All is now working.
Description of Work: My dryer was not heating. He found a broken safety monitor and replaced it. He also found a couple of missing screws that I had not noticed in the front plate.

David diagnosed the rattle and knocking in my washing machine right away. After checking his inventory of parts, he told me that the prices of the part have jumped so high, that it wouldn't be worth replacing. He assured me that it will continue to work--until it breaks--and that could be a week or a year. He advised me to wait and buy a new machine when this one quit working. I made the decision not to replace the part and the washing machine is still working fine. It's just noisy. David didn't charge me for the house visit (although he really should have). He fixed my dryer a month or so before. It had stopped heating. He replaced the thermostat and it's worked fine ever since. Full disclosure--David is a distant relative (small town) but I actually didn't know him. I would recommend him.
Description of Work: 2nd visit: Washing machine was knocking & making an awful racket. 1st visit: Dryer operated but didn't heat. David diagnosed both problems in about a half a minute. Both appliances are old but normally work well.

Replaced a part and spent time melting all the ice that had built up in the freezer. Unfortunately, he plugged a cord inside the freezer in the wrong way so the refrigerator still did not work. Returned to my house after calling GE to determine what the problem could possibly be and made the change to fix the refrigerator. Even though he had to return to finally fix the refrigerator, I do feel that he did a good job and being able to plug a cord in incorrectly was a defect in the manufacture of the cord and plug.
Description of Work: Repaired my refrigerator.

Service was quick, unit returned on 8/20. However, repairman came out on Friday and found that the unit needed to go to the shop. He did not take the unit out (I had to find someone to help me move a 18,500 BTU, 113lb unit) said it was against company policy due to liability issues. Found someone to help me get the unit out of its location and once we got the unit out and sat it in the LR floor, we had to call (and wait) for the repairman to come back out and put the unit on a dolly and roll to the truck. Same in reverse, repair guy delivered the unit back to the house, wheeled it in on the dolly and left it in the Living room floor. Now i have to find someone (live by myself) to help me hoist the unit back up and put back in place. But then, this company repaired the unit - company name says Dave's Appliances which I assumed meant moving the unit if needed. I was wrong. If you use them - best to have the heavy work done first so they'll deal with the bad appliance. They don't do the and quot;heavy liftingand quot;. Given my location, this is about the only game in town for appliance repair - would I use them again? I may have to. But that would be after I've called every last listing in the phone book to see if I could find a company that would actually move the item in question.
Description of Work: Warranty work on 3y/o window A/C unit so no $$ involved. Vibration in the unit rubbed a hole in one of the cooling coils - this was repaired and the shop repositioned the coils to prevent this from happening in the future. Downside, repair person would not remove the unit from it's working position - required a 2nd trip out to pick it up after I found someone to help me take the unit out of it's location. ( live by myself - lifting a 113lb unit of this size (18500 BTU) is difficult based on physical dimensions of unit) Same in reverse, they delivered the unit this morning, sat it in the living room floor. Now I have to find someone to help me put it back in place. A working A/C unit doesn't work well if it's unplugged and sitting in the floor.
