Grapevine Maytag Repair

I described the problem of not cooling when I called for the appointment. I understood the $55 service call would be applied to the cost of the repair. When Jeff arrived he unscrewed the back panel, tested the electrical usage of the compressor and pronounced that it had lost coolant and the evaporator and compressor had to be replaced. Since that cost would be too high to repair, it was better to just junk the refrigerator. I called back when I found out I needed to remove the coolant to have the refrigerator recycled and Jeff told me he did not have any way to handle coolant. A little more research on line told me a test of the sealed system is a more accurate way to diagnose a coolant leak. He said he just bought the business and the new name was Sims Appliance Repair out of Bedford. I am now faced with getting a second opinion from a company that is equipped to handle coolant or just paying a junk company to pick up the refrigerator. It is a 2006 Jenn-Air stainless steel 25.6 cu ft side by side.
