CARTHORNE CONSTRUSTORS

At the beginning of the project we were totally sold on David Carter and the company. He said all the right things. We totally trusted him. As such, when David Carter asked for a lot of money upfront we agreed to give him almost $250,000 for the $375,000 home budget. In short, we were very green and stupid, but given the remote location of the project, we figured he knew what he was doing. Well, he started off good for about 2 months then the timeline started to fall apart. We were behind 2 weeks, then a month the 2 months etc etc. Then he stopped paying the subcontractors on site. It got very ugly and we had no choice but to fire him (about 6 months into the project). At the time we fired him he owed us more than $150,000 of the advanced money that was never recovered. We sued him, went to mediation and then drew up an agreement for him to pay back only around $75,000 and created a payment schedule which he broke after less than 3 payments. He filed for bankruptcy shortly after that but for some reason he and his company are still open. Don't trust a word that comes out of this man's mouth. He is a snake oil salesman. At the mediation when he agreed to the payment schedule, he shook my hand, looked me in the eye and said he was sorry and would repay everything he owned us, then walked away and we have never spoken since. DO NOT TRUST HIM.
