Absolutely stunning floors. The sales person Troy was local to McKinney, and very helpful with picking out flooring. The installer (Team Susan) was professional, and did a great job! It really speaks to how good a company Empire is when your installer shows up and you think you're on this old house. I'm sure she wouldn't work for them if they weren't a quality outfit. Couldn't have asked for more! Great floors at a great price. I've seen a couple comments about base boards....for a 10 year old house...typical wear and tear, they actually look better than before they showed up. They do have a couple tricks.

First of all, our sale guy, Eric, is the best! He is one of the main reasons we keep coming back to Empire for all our needs. He is professional and friendly. He doesn't force any crazy priced things on you just to make a buck. He genuinely cares about the people he sells to. That is a big deal to me. All of the installers we have had have been professional, hardworking, and efficient. The carpet went quickly since the house was empty at the time, but the installer made sure everything was done perfectly. Our hardwood took the longest out of all because it is so labor intensive, but the crew did an amazing job and even went out of their way to cut and put up a few pieces of our base board (we are doing it ourselves) behind the fridge so we wouldn't have to deal with moving that monstrosity again. They also stayed as late as they needed to in order to get the job done and done right. The vinyl crew that came was also efficient and hardworking. We had tile flooring originally in the sunroom that was destroyed in the plumbing debacle and the guys took up all the leftover grout that we couldn't get up ourselves to make sure the slab was perfect for the new flooring. If I had more floors to replace, I would call Empire in a heartbeat!
Description of Work: Over the course of the last few months, Empire has replaced all the floors in the house except for the bathrooms. We had our carpet replaced before moving into our new home in August. After finding out we have plumbing issues and having to replace all of the plumbing in our home we had new hardwood floors put in the living room, hall and kitchen and new vinyl floors put in our sunroom because the floors had to be destroyed in order to jackhammer into our foundation to get to the pipes.

Empire had the worst pricing. Then the tried to pressure you to sign immediately for the "special" reduction good only "today." High pressure, used car type of selling. Recommend you avoid.

The initial sales person would not breakdown cost of product and labor. This means when they claim to complete one room get another free the product is free but not the labor for the second room. When asked about labor cost the sales person would not give a definite price quote. I was told they subcontract labor however their installers are the best paid in the trade. In reality the installers were Hispanic men who worked hard but paid poorly. The cost for the second free room (supposedly the free one) had inflated labor costs that the workers never received. Empire could only be contacted through an 800 telephone number. You never knew who was managing your job locally. You were forced to use a contact person in another state. Next time I will use someone locally with whom I can maintain a personal relationship and who has a vested interest in pleasing the customer. Richard Leonard Frisco, Texas

The man who came out to give the estimate was very courteous and punctual. The process itself went great; they installed the floors the next day and cleaned up their mess. However, the quality of the floors is lackluster. Some of the boards are starting to gap and warp. Update: They came and tried to repair the boards that started to gape and warp. The man who came out to first look at the damage was very nice and said that the crew would probably rip up about 70% of the flooring to get to replace the damaged boards and then put the good boards back. The installers, however, tried to do the least amount of work possible. Instead of and quot;unlockingand quot; the boards from the end of the room, they broke one of the boards in the center of the room and worked from there. When he thought he was done, he became frustrated that there were still damaged boards. He began cussing in front of my 5 year old daughter about his mistake. There are still spots that are damaged and gaping, but I was just ready for him to leave since he was visibly frustrated any time I pointed out a spot that needed to be fixed. Overall, I would not recommend this company. I will work with a company that does not hire labor out but instead uses their own personal crew.

The salesman talked really fast and rushed us through the contract instead of letting us advance through it on our own. The price was very high but we were able to talk him down very easily so this tells me they know they are over priced to began with. Why not offer a reasonable price to start with. Makes you feel they are taking advantage. However, the product was of high quality and I did get some discounts through Angie's List. All that being said, the installation crew was great! I was raised in a construction family and these guys were very professional. They were right on time, very polite and courteous. They did not cut corners or hurry through anything, top quality work all the way. They informed me of everything being done and answered all questions. When the work was completed the guys cleaned up the work areas and removed all trash, next David walked me through the rooms and asked if I was completely happy and if I had any questions. David also informed me of how to care for my new hardwood floors as to what not to use and provided me with a pamphlet with info on the product and links with more information. I would not be afraid to leave David and his crew alone on any flooring project in my home. David Tate and his crew made the project a great experience and for this reason I would use Empire Today again. Thanks guys!

I had used Empire Today years ago to order carpeting for our staircase and also to custom make five area rugs, all from the same representative. I called recently to see if Empire still would custom make area rugs to a customer's order and was told that they did; however, the rep I had worked with in the past no longer was employed there. I explained that I wanted a custom-made area rug in black 5.5 feet by 6 feet. They scheduled a visit for a representative to come to my house on the next day. and quot;Tommyand quot; arrived on time. I showed him the area rug that I wanted to replace and explained that I wanted a solid black 5.5 by 6 feet rug. He disappeared to his car for a few minutes to get samples. The first one he gave me was a salt-and-papper fabric (black and white). I explained again that I wanted solid black. He produced two samples for me and said that was all they had in solid black. I picked one for the area rug. Tommy started to write up the order but then said that he needed to speak with a manager about how to charge for the order, but all the managers were in a staff meeting at the time. I thought it was odd that Empire would send someone who didn't know how to write up an order, but then again, he apparently didn't know the difference between and quot;solid blackand quot; and and quot;salt and pepper.and quot; Tommy said that he would go back to the office, speak to his manager, write up the order and then come back in the afternoon. I asked him to call me first to be sure I would be home. I never heard from him again -- not that afternoon, as he promised, not the next day. Apparently, Empire didn't want the business, which mystifies me, because they knew what my order was going to be when I arranged for the visit. Anyway, I went to Carpet Exchange in Dallas this morning. They quickly wrote up my order for the area rug in exactly the color and fabric I wanted and will have it delivered to me in about ten days. Now, that's service! I'll never use Empire again.

The installation was fast and cheap, however they damaged stuff in my bedroom, failed to put things back after moving the bed and stuff, and damaged my laminate flooring. That being said, the reimbursed me for the damages and were accommodating when I told them how poorly they did it.

We had our whole house re-carpeted by Empire last month. 7 days later we find they double billed us. That's over $10,000 they owe us. You would think one phone call would rectify the situation but oh no, WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! They still to this day refuse to refund us our money. My husband has repeatedly contacted Empire, spoken to several RUDE service reps who deny, deny, deny they double billed us. One 30 second phone call to AMEX, who were incredibly helpful, showed it is 100% Empire's fault, as there are two routing numbers, which means two separate charges on their part. But still, Empire refuses to acknowledge their and quot;mistakeand quot; (which feels a lot like theft) and issue a refund. Our next stop? The BBB to file a formal complaint, with the blessing of our credit card company.

Wow! That best describes my experience. From initial call to Mike our sales person showing up to show us the products selections everything was smooth. The next day when the installers showed up, the worked quickly but paid attention to detail and kept the house clear of debris. Then post installation the walk through was efficient. I was amazed that I picked out my selections Monday night and by Wednesday morning, I had a new bathroom and game room floors. The follow-up and checks and balances by their customer service were impressive. I would do business with them again.

We meet with Mike B. He came out to our house on a Friday night appoint. He was on time and very polite and professional. There was no high pressure sales tactics just a simple explanation of the special and a price. Carpet selection on special was exactly the type and style we were looking for with many colors to choose from. Within 2 hours we had made a decision and the price was 2k less than other local store pricing for our home. They were out the next morning and installed over 2000 sqft of carpet and tile. There were no problems with moving furniture or carpet installation work. They made it a fantastic experience and we just love our new carpet! Thanks Empire and Mike!

They're terrible. They ruined my floor when they came. I wouldn't tell anyone to use them, they did not respect my home, they did damage to my house and the company did not make amends with what they done wrong. When they came to my home they installed laminate and they cut the laminate at my front door and left the front door open and my hole house was covered in a fine layer of dust and I called them to see if they would send anyone to come and clean it and instead they said they would give me $500. They also knocked a window out and they did damage to the walls that I had just painted. So overall I was very disappointed.

They did it for the price they said and they came promptly and on time. I had a check for them ready. When I gave them the check, they told me they didn't think that they could authorize the check. They called in for verification, and they said they couldn't deposit my check at all. They apparently used some sort of third-party verification system that had red-flagged me because I don't normally write fifteen hundred dollar checks. I had just written a much larger check to a foundation company two days ago and they had no problems with it. This seems totally bizarre to me, and no other contractor had had any problems during the renovations we are doing now. I don't get it at all. I felt insulted and I will not be using them again. The job was delayed for two hours while they were there. The carpet was great and I'm happy with it. The sales rep had been very personable and we really liked him. That doesn't mean I'll ever use them again.

Called them and the sales rep (Chad) came out the same day. As other reviews have said, they had a "special deal" to get you to act on the offer quickly. Didn't really mind the tactic, as we wanted to do something quickly anyway. Very personable. Made sincere effort to get us what we wanted, not what he wanted to sell us. They said it would take a day and a half. The crew arrived on time, and went right to work. They ended up having to do a lot more leveling of the concrete than expected, but the price didn't change. They spent most of the first day leveling the floor. Had a combination across the rooms of carpet, old spanish tile, and linoleum. The second day the work was completed rapidly. They arrived at 7:30am and done by 3:30pm. Even put in the molding we purchased for them. Love the quality of the product (Mohawk) and the attention to detail of the install. Couldn't be more pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Installed engineered wood in several areas. Front entry way, a walkway from the front door to the kitchen, the kitchen, breakfast area, and dining room. About 500 sq ft total. Considered just buying the materials and having someone install it, but the one-vendor solution with a 25 year warranty seemed like a better idea. If something wasn't right there could be no finger pointing.

The experience with the sales rep was very helpful. She was polite and very personable and helped me weigh all of my options without pressing me in any direction. The problem came when the actual installers arrived. Firstly, they arrived 30 minutes late, and then sat in their truck outside my house for 15 minutes. Only when I walked outside and approached them did they get out. These two guys then proceeded to beat the gashes into my baseboards and into the bottom drawer of a built in cabinet set. When I called customer service the next day, they were very helpful. They apologized for what happened, and asked me to send in pictures, and they would reimbursement the cost to have the scratches fixed. I told them that i was not looking for monetary compensation, and that I was only trying to give them constructive feedback so that they had a better understanding of their installers performance. A week later I received a check in the mail for $60. Their customer service and corporate structure is well operated. The only week point came with the installation. I most likely would use them in the future, I will just request they send out their 'A Team' installers for the next go-round.
Description of Work: Empire installed new carpet in a single bedroom. We had already done the work of removing the old carpet and pad and doing the prep work.

Overall, we rated the whole experience as an F (Lousy). The sales man showed up 10 minutes before the alloted block of time. We live out in Sachse, TX. Once there, he asked many personal questions that we didn't think were appropriate (for example: he asked us where we were from, we said Dallas; he then asked, and quot;what partand quot;, we said Oak Cliff; he then asked, and quot;What part of Oak Cliff?and quot;. He also asked if we were alone in the home, then proceeded to go to rooms that were not on our list of rooms to discuss). As soon as he sat down, the sales pitch started; it did not stop (continuous) for one hour; when we tried to ask questions, he talked over us multiple times. He went to get the samples, brought them in and laid them on our counters. One sample had a long hair from a previous person; he proceeded to pull it off and place it on our floor. He did allow us some time to look over the samples while he did the measurements in the rooms we allocated. Once we were done, we reviewed the samples we liked; he then made estimates for how much each sample might cost us. The prices were fair; the salesman was open to negotiating. The most lousy part of the experience happened after I stated that we needed to think about the whole process before making a decision. I don't like making rash decisions or being and quot;forcedand quot; to make a decision; we needed to do the pros and cons. I wanted to review the process and make the best decision for our family (financing vs regular payment, which rooms we really wanted to do now vs later, confirm my husband and I were on the same page as far as which samples we liked best, etc.). The sales man told us that we needed to make a decision right then and there about the flooring, and quot;What do you have to think about?and quot;. When we shared what we had to think about, he proceeded to tell that if we didn't do the work today, and quot;The prices aren't guaranteedand quot;. We accepted this; we repeated that we still needed to think about it. The sales man would not leave; he stayed another 10 minutes repeating the same sales pitch over and over, sharing how his work requires long hour days, many miles of driving, many homes all through the metroplex. He became billigerent. Each time we tried to speak, he kept talking; ignoring our concerns. He stated that he didn't have time to come back and let us think about it. He told us that we didn't have to think about anything, that we needed to act now (LOTS OF PRESSURE). We did not give in and asked for his card. He initially refused to leave his card so that we could contact him later. He left, finally, but it was an unprofessional, rude and inappropriate experience. Update: We received a call one day after our review was made. Roger called to convey his apologies for his sales rep's tactics and has offered to work with us, and quot;Send a senior rep to come and talk with youand quot;. We are still contemplating this. I have changed the professionalism rating from F to C based on this gesture. He seemed to understand our complaints. I will write another update if we do decide to get work done with Empire.
Description of Work: Based on the TV commercials for $99 per room, we were excited to see what Empire had to offer and confirm what the pricing really meant. We had had one meeting with a previous rep in June 2012 that did not go well; we wanted to give the Empire another chance with a different sales rep. This time, we had a whole new idea of what we wanted to do, the set number of rooms and different woods/tilel from the previous visit. When the sales rep came out, he informed us that there was no such thing as $99 per room.

They did an amazing job. They were absolutely on time. They brought six guys in and moved additional furniture. They took off the existing baseboards and dusted after the project. Everything looks great.
