Description of Work: I did not hire through Angies List but did hire them last fall to do some carpeting in my house. I also recommended them to someone else. I was supposed to be paid for that referral. I never have been. I have emailed back and forth, gotten the person's info I referred to them, etc - and they have never paid me for that referral. I will never use them again for carpet installation again.

Description of Work: Very pushy, tried to close deal using old & tacky sales tactics. When it became clear to salesman I was Not going to sign anything or give him a deposit, as I Told him I was Not going to do when he walked in the door... He became Rude, picked up his samples, and walked out! Refusing to even leave a business card!!! I'll pull up the carpet ant paint the concrete myself before I ever use Empire!!!

Description of Work: They arrived on time, moved all bigger furniture in bkfst room, entry, study, dining room, family room, then set about removing all the tile floors in all these spaces. Once done, they cleaned up and set about installing beautiful hardwood 4"handscrapped floors. After that they cleaned again and then replaced all furniture. I was extremely pleased with them and the knowledge and obvious experience of their crew. I would use them again without any reservations.

Description of Work: Set up appt on line. Salesperson was on time. Cost for just wood started at over 17,000.00 for what turned out to be 800 ft. And came down to 12,000.00 if I would allow a sign in the front yard, etc. and all sorts of gimmicks. The normal pressure to sign now for more discount. So I did. But as a woman alone felt the price was a bit out of line. Gave him a couple of calls with possible outs like maybe he missed measured, multiplied wrong, etc.. Got a call back when i said i wanted to cancel. After getting a quote for half (6300.00)from Nadine I cancelled Empire. Better wood at Nadine as well. If you give these guys a try be sure to get a couple of quotes and don't fall to the high pressure. The same quote will be there next week or the week after. I was never able to get the sq ft total or the sq ft cost from Empire. They have good products but I don't think the sales tactics are honest.

Description of Work: Hi Folks. We're still looking for carpet and thought I'd use Angies List. When EMPIRE came up I felt I needed to share my experience thus far. My wife insisted we call Empire to check them out. The salesman was punctual, personal and very professional. He had little knowledege of construction based on some of his comments about our pier and beam floor and the subfloor the carpet would go down on. There appeard to be three grades of carpet the thickets was called "Vernon". Nice thick pile plain carpet. He gave us a bid of $2250 for 25.3ft x 12ft.. Twice as high as another supplier I'd previously talked to so I doubt we'll be doing business with Empire. The car sales tactic was in full force, although I don't think from the car sales standpoint. I just think Empire sells whoever interviews as having people skills and they send them out. I didn't feel any pressure at all during our conversations. I HAVE felt the pressure from at least one other source so maybe thats the drawback of a less expensive but equivalent carpet - that you have to deal with a salesman.

Description of Work: Salesperson/estimator came to the house and took measurements. We knew what we wanted for both wood and carpet as we had samples picked out from another source for comparison. The Empire salesman said the 'other" product was inferior (even though it is a top of the line national brand), but he could not answer basic questions about the Empire product. Like "how long is the warranty?", "what material is it made from?", "what is the hardness factor of the wood?", and "what type of adhesive do you use"? It appeared that he had very little training (if any) on the products he was representing, but he had no trouble saying that competitive products were inferior???? When it came to the pricing, it was very unprofessional--complete bait and switch. He refused to give a line item price on anything. Handed us a term sheet (again, no details) and said the job would cost $16,000, which was almost $7,000 higher than any other bid we recieved (Empire has a low price guarantee--Ha!).. When I balked at the price and told him how much higher his bid was, he immediately dropped it to $10,900. Both my wife and I were insulted by the tactics--he treated us like we were idiots. Suffice it to say that was the end of the meeting. Beware of Empire high-pressure tactics and inability or unwillingness to answer direct questions about their own products.

THE INSTALLATION WORK WAS DONE QUICKLY. WHEN WE DISCOVERED PROBLEMS WITH THE LAMINATE FLOORING IN MANY PLACES AND CALLED THE COMPANY FOR REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENTS, WE WERE ACCUSED OF SPILLING WATER ALL OVER THE FLOOR, WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE BUCKLING AT JOINTS THAT WE EXPERIENCED. FIRST, WE NEVER SPILLED WATER ON THE FLOOR EXCEPT IN SMALL AREAS, WHICH WERE IMMEDIATELY CLEANED. SECOND, THE SALESMAN NEVER EXPLAINED THAT THIS FLOORING, TOUTED AS BEING THICKER AND A BETTER, MUCH MORE DURABLE PRODUCT THAN PERGO AND SIMILAR FLOORING, IS, IN FACT, NOT DURABLE AT ALL. THE TOP SURFACE TENDS TO DELAMINATE, ESPECIALLY AT JOINTS. IF THE SALESMAN HAD TOLD ME THAT THIS FLOORING WAS NOT DURABLE, RATHER THAN LIE TO ME AND TELL ME THAT IT WAS VERY DURABLE, I WOULD NEVER HAVE BOUGHT IT. WHEN THE COMPANY FINALLY GOT AROUND TO SENDING SOMEONE TO MAKE REPAIRS, THE WORKER BROUGHT THE WRONG MATERIAL, AND THE WORK HAD TO BE RESCHEDULED. REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED A WEEK LATER TO OUR SATISFACTION.
