Black Tie Plumbing

This was a Home Warranty Repair. I had to call them twice to get them to respond to the work order - they did not call me in the specified 48 hour period. Brad and Michael came to fix our master toilet that is leaking water out of the top of the toilet plastic head. They said the Warranty Company would not cover the repair of the apparatus as our water pressure is at 90 psi. They said all our toilets are broken ( without having seen more than one) because of this 'high" pressure. They then said we would have to pay them the full price to repair the toilets, which would be USD 200 each. Also they recommended we get a PRV ( pressure reducing valve) in the front yard for which we would need to pay them USD 998. They added that we might need to get an expansion tank as well. He asked if we were ready to go ahead and let him do the work immediately. If we had been gullible we would have paid USD 998 plus 1200 for six toilets - plus a expansion tank. We felt this was clearly a scam. We paid them the USD 75 warranty service fee just to get them out of the house. We immediately called our Warranty Company who confirmed that they absolutely would cover the repair as 90 psi is well within the normal range. This morning the City Water Department officials came to check our water pressure and they confirmed that our pressure is within normal range and nothing has changed in our water pressure in our area over the last 24 years. Therefore they recommended we get a different plumber since there is nothing in our water supply that would affect our toilet.. our Warranty Company has now transferred the work order to another company.
