Description of Work: HORRIBLE...run don't walk...RUN! | |We met with this contractor October 2012 to rebuild hardy plank columns on our front porch and replace a set of existing french doors. He told us we had to pay for the materials up front and the labor at the end. | |After charging $2,858.00 to our American Express card using his Square gadget that day we did not hear from Mr. Atkinson for over a month. When I called to ask when work would begin he came to our house and ripped our front columns up and left a 6 foot pile of debris on our front yard. This was in the beginning of December 2012. That pile of debris sat in our front yard until January 2013...yes all through Christmas. My husband didn't want to have to clean it up since we had paid Atkinson Construction to do the project but it was killing our grass and was just plain dangerous. Out of desperation [and having to deal with my upset husband] I tried to call Mr. Atkinson. After a day of lying to me about where Mr. Atkinson was his wife finally broke down and told me he was ummm...detained and could not finish the job for a few months. | |We tried to dispute the American Express charges [AMEX bills itself as having buyer protection] but Atkinson Construction disputed back saying we paid on the Square gadget so can not dispute the transaction. American Express would not extend us buyer protection...we got screwed and ended up paying someone else over $1500 to finish the columns...we never did get the french door replaced since we were swindled.
