The problem was that the machine wouldn't drain water. After googling the problem, I found four possible causes: clogged drain hose, broken lid switch, clogged or broken pump, and worn-out belt. I sucked out the water with a wet/dry shop vac (very handy to have!) and determined that the hose wasn't clogged. I went to the Whirlpool website for more info. I used the Whirlpool website to schedule an appointment with an authorized technician. The technician came when scheduled, checked out the machine and determined the lid switch was shot. He also said the agitator wasn't working correctly. He did a very good job explaining the problems. He gave me an estimate, showing me the prices in his notebook and computer. He fixed everything quickly. He asked for some household cleaner so he could clean some of the gunk as long as the machine was apart.
Description of Work: Inspected the washing machine, replaced the defunct lid switch and the fallen-apart agitator dogs that make the agitator work properly.

Whirlpool put us in contact with them as our repair was a warranty repair. I had worked with A&E before and was pleased so I was not sure what to expect from them. The whole experience went smoothly. A technician diagnosed the problem correctly and within a few days the part arrived and he was in and out quickly after repairing the dishwasher. He provided a clear invoice with an explanation of what was to be corrected. All and all very pleasant experience.

They checked on our dishwasher as part of our insurance with One Guard. The technician diagnosed the problem the first time. It took two weeks for part to come in. The first week after beginning appointment, the wrong part came in. It took a week to wait for parts to come in. After the first part was installed, the dishwasher still wasn't working. A second part was ordered. Again, a problem, a week later the part came in broke so had to reorder. Finally the part was put in. It works okay, but I am not confident it is working well. The guy never really tested to see that it was functioning well. He just put parts in. This company may have done everything right, but I am not encouraged to try them again. I'll look for someone else to try next time.

While I regret purchasing KitchenAid appliances, still I was not prepared for "you need a whole new kitchen refrigerator door - at a cost of more than $1,500". I did ask a lot of questions about whether that was really the only solution. I remained skeptical and the short story is after calling the KitchenAid people direct who were not very helpful, we decided to wait on any order of new parts or repair. the guy's attitude was very dismissive of me, as he knew best and he told us we weren't doing a good job of cleaning the appliances (I am quite an "anal" cleaner). He was just abrasive and not friendly. After he left, the next day or so he called to say he had forgotten to charge us an extra $45 for the 2nd appliance servicing. We did not return the call or pay them (I thought that was unprofessional as well). So we got an extended warranty on the refrigerator, waited the 90 day "grace period", and are now back to seeing what can be done to get our refrigerator ice dispenser working again. Using a different service company this time.
Description of Work: These guys are certified KitchenAid repair technicians. So we called them for 2 KitchenAid repairs - nonworking ice dispenser in a large KitchenAid refrigerator, and a nonworking KitchenAid ice maker (which had been fixed just a year earlier). They did do something to the ice maker, which returned to not working about 3 weeks later.

My stove's manufacturer, Jenn Air, recommended Appliance Express (AE) as being qualified to repair my stove. So I called AE, and they sent a repair guy to diagnose the problem. After taking apart the burner, he said that he needed to order a new part for the control mechanism. He reassembled the burner, and told me that the office would call me when the part came in. No one ever called me. I got busy with life and forgot about this stove repair for a few weeks, until one day I rediscovered the invoice. So I called the company and inquired about my part. The lady who answered the phone had no idea what I was talking about, so she just took my name and number and said she'd research the issue and then call me back. Again, no one ever called me back, so a few days later I called them again. This time the lady was able to tell me that my part was in (but no apology for never calling me back). So we scheduled a second visit by the repair guy. The repair guy came and took apart the burner again, and then spent a really long time struggling with the new part. Finally, he said that the new part just wouldn't fit in the burner control mechanism. He said that apparently he had been given the wrong part, so he reassembled the burner and told me the office would research the issue and then call me when they found the correct part. At least he did not charge me for this fruitless repair visit. Once again, no one ever called me. Then one day, I am about to leave for school (literally one foot out the door) when I receive a phone call from the repair guy. He is calling to verify that morning's service appointment. Huh? I did NOT schedule a repair visit for that day; I had to go to school. I cancel that day's appointment, and tell him that I will call the office to reschedule, since apparently they have found the right part. Later that night, I ask my family, but no one had talked with AE to set up that day's appointment. Since I was very busy with school at that particular time, I didn't get around to calling AE back right away to reschedule. Then one day, I come home and find the repair guy's business card wedged in my front door - "Sorry I missed you." What? Once again, he seemed to think that we had a repair visit scheduled for that day. I don't know who at AE was setting up these random repair appointments, but they never asked me nor told me about them. In all, I had 3 of these "phantom service appointments" (possibly more if the repair guy didn't leave a card?). It was all very strange, very stressful, and very unprofessional. I couldn't make a real service appointment with them because they wouldn't return my calls. Finally, I just told my husband that I couldn't deal with them anymore. He called them himself and stayed home from work to wait for the repair guy. The repair guy fixed the on/off problem with the burner control knob, so my husband paid him. When we tried to use that burner to cook later, we realized that it was now broken in a different way - it only had 2 heat settings, High and Low. Useless. As useless as the company that tried to repair it, but failed miserably - Appliance Express.
Description of Work: One of my stove's burners had a malfunctioning control knob; you could turn it on easily, but it did not want to turn off. Very unsafe, so I never used that burner. I contracted Appliance Express to fix my Jenn Air cooktop so that I could use that burner for cooking. They tried to fix it, and they did indeed fix the control knob so that the burner could be turned on and off normally. However, in the process they broke the burner such that it only has 2 heat settings now - High and Low. This is not useful to me, and I still never use that burner. Appliance Express didn't really repair my cooktop burner, and every interaction with them left me with a headache, so I never called them back to have them fix it properly. I'd rather start over with a new (reputable, professional, competent) appliance repair company. Not only did the "repair" take months to complete, I'm also out the $169 (possibly $229, since I believe they double-charged me for the part they ordered, but I can't prove it since I lost one of the service receipts).

They came by and I had already told them what happened with the whirlpool appliance. I let them know what part they would need to fix it and the mechanic that came by looked at the washing machine for about 3 minutes and said that the timer needs to be replaced and then asked for the service fee. However, since I knew the part needed to be replaced it did not make sense for him to come out and tell me. It ended up being that I had to call the manager about coming back out and replacing the part and deducting the fee for the second service call.

They provided excellent service overall. The first time the technician came out, he didn’t have the correct part. When he came out the second time, however, he acknowledged that he should’ve had that correct part initially, so he didn’t charge me for that second service call. He was knowledgeable, personable, and did a great job overall.

The service was very good. I was very pleased. He was very helpful. He really took his time to explain everything even though nothing was wrong. He explained how it works, he explained what is normal and what is not normal. He also explained how to maintain it. He made good points and told me what parts might need replaced first.
Description of Work: We have a Kitchen Aid clear ice maker under extended warranty. I had them look at the ice maker because I thought something was wrong. The water continued to flow. He checked everything and did a diagnostic. I have used their services twice now.

Went well. Took the time to do a diagnostic, found the problem, and fixed it.
Description of Work: Had them out three times to do a warranty repair on my Maytag HE top loader. They replaced the circuit board, and another time they found there was no problem when the repairman got clarification of the operation of a certain option that was not specified in the manual. Helpful, courteous, prompt.
