 + -1 moreWe called Kevin and asked for a quote to trim a huge Red Oak in our front so we could get some sun through to our sparse grass. Within just a couple of hours, he called me with a very reasonable quote...so we hired him to do the job. He happened to be in the area and was able to trim the tree that very same day. I came home from lunch to check on things and they were about 2/3 of the way done. After chatting with Kevin for a little bit, I felt comfortable leaving a check with him trusting that he would complete the job in a satisfactory manner. When I came home from work at the end of the day, the tree was trimmed, the yard was clean, the limbs were neatly stacked for the City of Dallas to pick them up. The tree looks great and we should be able to get some grass to grow now. I have had several compliments on a job well done.

 + -1 moreI called Sand S TREE SERVICE on a Monday. Kevin Sides came out the next day. He was early for his appointment. I requested that he give me a written estimate. He had no estimate forms so he took one of his business cards and wrote down the estimate on the back of it. He quoted me $950 to cut down the tree and haul the debris to my curb for city pick up. He gave me an estimate of $150 to do the stump grinding. I felt that his estimate was on the high side. Half of the tree had already been removed by the utility company's tree service. I ended up going with another company with a lower estimate.
Description of Work: In Jan. 2008 I called and received and estimate for the removal of a Live Oak Tree. This tree was quite large and was 34 inches in diameter. This tree was in proximity to power lines at the back of my property. The utility company came by and literally removed half the tree. All branches on the back side of the tree were removed leaving a very large lopsided tree. After the utility company's tree service had finished cutting our tree, we were advised by several professionals that the tree should be removed for safety reasons. I acquired six estimates altogether. They ranged from $880 to $2875. Most included the hauling away of the debris and stump grinding. Next time I will be sure to get separate estimates for tree removal and stump grinding. Every one of the tree companies that subbed out the stump grinding marked up the price.
