We like the others had hail damage to two skylights. I went to their office which happens to be in my neighborhood. I met with Matt and explained what had happened. He sent two workers the following day to take measurements. Matt called me with the cost to replace them and we agreed to that. He said the replacements would be ready in about two weeks, and that they would call when ready for install. They were ready in the promised time and installation was done quickly by two knowledgeable and friendly men. I paid the lead installer when the work was completed. Complete satisfaction on my part.

We had a bad hailstorm one evening and two skylights were broken. We went online immediately and found Matt on Angie's list. A few months after the installation, there was a leak from the flashing connecting the skylight to the roof. It was very challenging working with them to come back out and fix the problem. They finally came back out and "fixed" the issue however the leak has progressed to where we have discovered extensive damage in the ceiling and attic and there is now mold. They refused to repair the secondary damage so I am hiring another company to repair the leak as well as the aftermath from their negligent work. Honestly, this work should be covered by them, yet I am paying the price. At first I was impressed with how quickly they repaired my skylights - be cautious about the quality of their work.

We performed the work as contracted. The leak has nothing to do with the that was performed. Freelite replaced the broken lenses within the existing skylight system. There was zero work done or expected to be done on any roof or flashing material. Any work done after the leak was reported to us was a courtesy to the customer. The original work contracted by a gentleman (I had not spoken with her at this point) was to replace two broken white over clear double dome sets that were part of an existing skylight system. Freelite completed the work as described on 5-28-11. We were notified on 12-5-12 there was water showing up on the ceiling at or near the skylight. On 12-16-12 we sent two representatives (Ben Charlson and Brent Sparks) to examine what could have been causing the leak. Freelite determined that it was not the domes that we replaced back in May or the skylight from that hold the domes that were the cause of the problem. As a courtesy to the customer our technicians looked for other possible causes on the roof or flashing and found that the corners of the flashing were not properly sealed and caulked over the exposed nail heads on the bottom piece of flashing. There are three major parts to the construction of a skylight. There is the wooden curb that attaches to the decking of the roof that is flashed in using bent galvanized sheet metal. Then you have an aluminum extruded frame with welded corners and a self-contained drainage system that weeps excess water from rain or condensation onto the roof. Finally, you have the glazing material that is either a plastic or glass material that lets the light into the room below. Freelite was only contracted to replace the broken domes and nothing else. We had no obligation to try to fix anything else beyond where the work had taken place, because there was no indication given to us by the person who contracted us to do the work that there were any other problems with the skylight. I (Matt Charlson) had spoken with her after the leak persisted and informed her that the leak would require more work to repair the problem fully and that the flashing was not part of the original contract. I went to the property again, after I had spoken with her to confirm what had been previously found and had given her my cell phone number to her and asked her to call me if the problem persisted and she wanted us to re-flash her skylight. I explained to her very thoroughly the cause of the problem, why changing out the broken domes does not include flashing and/or roof work. Her house had gone through a pretty bad hail storm that most likely damaged her roof to the point where water was getting under the flashing where it had not gone before. She had the same roof she had when I was up there to do the measurement and replace the broken domes as when I went out there months later. I have not heard from her since out last conversation back in December and did not know there was still a problem. If the skylight is still leaking then we can re-flash it for her for $395 and we will warranty the skylight and the immediate roof area around the skylight for 10 years. We will re-flash the skylight for $395 and warranty against leaks from the skylight and the immediate roof area for 10 years.

They weren’t the first choice. There was another company that was the first choice company. We had extensive hail damage in the Dallas area and so, they couldn’t do the repair on my house. I asked the owner who would he recommend and he recommended Freelite. So, I used them. The installation cost me $269. They were real quick to respond. Even though they were pretty busy, they did work me in because I had complete damage all the way through and everything could come in. So, they were quick to get a replacement put in for me. What I needed to get done was a repair and they were real quick in doing it. I am probably going to be doing some work on the house next year. I am looking into adding the skylights at the back of the house since the hallway is kind of dark. Whenever I am ready to do that, I am going to give Freelite a call. I will see what their estimate is and will see what they have. Their price was in line with most of the other quotes that I was given. They weren’t the cheapest, but they weren’t the most expensive one too. I would consider using them in the future.
Description of Work: I used the services of Freelite towards the end of May for replacing a skylight. We had a skylight that was broken by hail. So, they replaced the plastic that goes over the top of it.

Perfect. They came out promptly as soon as the roof was dry enough to work on and sealed the skylight. I have dealt with FreeLite over a 25 year period with excellent results. I asked about their one bad review on Angie's (2005) and I would have done the same thing as they did. I would not call it a vendetta. more like 'poetic justice'.

Matt came out the next day to do the measurements and was able to install the filter a few days later. It took him a total of 10 minutes to climb the roof, unscrew the existing dome, install this filter and return the screws. For this much money, I sincerely hope it works so I don't feel so dumb for spending it!

We're sorry you doen't feel you received a fair price, but we installed a Lexan polycarbonate panel that filters out 99.99% UVa and UVb rays. The material is not cheap and will hold up over time much better than the solar screens and shade clothes that promise to do the same. If the outer dome breaks from any hail, golf ball, or hammer the interior panel we installed will not break.

We came home from work to find the ceiling leaking around the skylight from a rainstorm. We called Freelite at 6:30 P.M. expecting to leave a message, but a nice and knowledgeable man answered the phone. He offered two options. One was a less expensive option to patch the immediate problem. We chose the second option which came with a 5 year guarantee. The work was scheduled for two days later. The technician arrived on time and took four hours to remove and install new flashing all around the skylight. Another rainstorm has come and gone and no leaks. We appreciate the quality work, the options for repair, and the quick response.
