Fred's Garage Doors

I had been using another garage door company but decided to try Fred's due to positive reports on Angie's List. I was not disappointed. He arrived on time, performed required maintenance and servide fee was reasonable. I will use him as my "go to" guy for future service calls.

Existing garage door self destructed due to chain breaking on opener when I arrived home yesterday evening. I searched Angie's List for a local highly recommended garage door installer and Fred's Garage Doors was at the head of the list for the DFW area. I contacted Fred's Garage Door's and was surprised when Fred answered the phone at close to 8pm. Fred quoted ma a fair price and said he could have an installer at my place at 10am the next day. Roberto the installer arrived promptly on time the next day and set immediately to work Three hours later I had a complete new garage door system with a super quite new Liftmaster screw drive automatic opener. Roberto even loaded up all of the old equipment and hauled it away. Super Job Guys!

Overall, experience was excellent and pricing was good.

Everything went well. He gave prompt service and was able to repair it instead of replacing it. He charged a reasonable rate too.

I was very pleased! I had an estimate yesterday and the company said I needed to replace my entire opener b/c motor was going out--$350 expense!

Overall, It was a good experience with Freds Garage Doors. They were good people. They did a lot of work for the money I spent. They did good work. The only complaint I had was that they had missed the fact that they needed to build some supports for the rails. They ended up using some wood that I had in the barn, without asking me, which was kind of weird. It was fine but it was at least $30 worth of wood. It would have been nice for them to have asked first. I understand that they did that because they wanted to get the work done on the same day. I was glad that they got the work in one day rather than having them come back. I would use them in the future.

Fred charged me for a second service call and shouldn't have. Only a few months after his first comprehensive service call, already my garage door was not working properly. His wife suggested I look for a loose wire before sending him out again, which I did but found nothing. When Fred arrived he went directly to the connection point I had just checked, yanked the wire free from the contact screw and proceeded to tell me it was like that when he walked up! Now, mind you, I had just seen him do this and a wire is now dangling there very obvious, whereas before it was not! Fred then proceeded to pull more wire down (obviously it needed some slack the first time) and re-strip the wire. So, clearly he had not securely attached the wire to the contact screw on the first service call. Furthermore, had I accidentally pulled the wire loose (I most defnitely had not having just paid a huge bill!), he would only have had to REATTACH the wire -- not pull more down and re-strip it! So, no, I won?t ever call Fred again -- to me charging for that was wrong and unprofessional. I also urge readers, before calling for service, to check this connection themselves (first, making sure to flip the breaker box switch that controls the door opener to the ?off? position), and (very important) to read the wealth of information about garage doors and openers that is free on the Internet! There are SOME simple things we can do to save a service call!

Very prompt and very pleasant. Workman was polite, clean, approachable if we had a question, extremely accurate at putting all the pieces together. His finished work was perfect. The wiring is meticulous and all right-angle gorgeous. He even greased the wheels and hinges on our old door so now it's almost soundless when it goes up and down. My husband and I are just thrilled at the quality of work!

The garage door quit working, and the wires came off the tracks a bit. We had no idea whether we needed a knew one, and could have been overcharged without knowing it. Fred, however, quickly diagnosed the problem as a spring - just $170! He was on-time, professional- just plain wonderful. He even programmed my car to open the garage door, something I didn't know how to do.

The repair went smoothly and quickly, one spring had broken. But since both of the springs looked to be the same age, he recommended I replace the second as well. It was much cheaper per spring to get them both done in one sitting. He also pointed out a potential future repair that I might need because of the spring going out, but didn't try and "upsell" me into doing that repair now. I appreciated the honesty and the responsiveness of the service.

I first called on Wednesday and scheduled for a Saturday repair (wow, a place that even DOES Saturdays). I told them that the pulley wire had been caught around the pulley but with much jiggling, we had managed to break the pulley wire. Unfortunately, we have a family emergency on Saturday and when I called at 6am to leave a message for them, Fred answered the phone and rescheduled me to Monday with no problem and was very nice, considering how my appointment was for 8am-9am. On Monday, Roberto showed up about 8:30a, came in, went through to the garage door and said right off that the spring was broken as well as the pulley wire. He gave me an estimate right then to replace the pulleys and the spring. He actually opened the garage door from the inside with the broken spring and broken pulley (something we had been unable to do), moved his truck around to the driveway and got to work. He was here maybe an hour when he finished it all up and showed me the working garage door. It worked perfectly (not a sound as it opened). I asked some questions about replacing the garage door in the future and he answered them, giving me a general estimate. And I will definitely be calling Fred's back when I do decide to replace the door.

Fred was fantastic. I called and he was out to my house within an hour. He gave me a quote prior to initiating work which was quite reasonable. During the job he realized he would not have to do part of what he had initially quoted and took this off the bill. He was honest, punctual, did great work, and was very pleasant. We've found our man for any garage door issues in the future. I recommend him unreservedly.

I emailed them on a Sunday evening, and they called Monday morning. He was very prompt and efficient, he reset our outdoor keypad for us. We thought we were going to need another one but he fixed it for no additional charge.

I was very impressed with Fred?s Garage Door rating on Angie?s List. Every report was an A except for only one B. Roberto came to install my new garage door at the scheduled time and he did an excellent job. He is very professional and courteous and definitely knows what he is doing. I had the $25 coupon from Angie?s list so the door cost $670. I will use this company for all my garage door needs.

He arrived on time, worked very efficiently, and was professional in every way. He did demonstrate that the rollers were worn out and suggested we replace them which we did. There was no pressure, just the revelation that they were worn out. We believe the charges were very reasonable and would call him again.

I called Fred's Garage Doors to have them check out the garage door at our rental house. The tenant had reported that the door no longer worked and the hinges were loose. Fred reported to us that the door was too old and had too many cracks. It needed to be replaced. Fred quoted us a price and we agreed. He also helped collect the $50 deductible from the tenant. I was very pleased with the service - prompt responses, punctuation, professionalism, and friendliness. I hope the garage door will last some time before I have to call them again :).

He came within a matter of hours of calling to fix my cable. My garage door has been making a lot much noise and he even showed us how to grease the bearings in inside of the rollers to fix that problem. He was fair and the price was more than reasonable. He was very professional and we will most definitely be using him again.

Fred was prompt, professional and friendly. Did a great job. Will definitely use again.

Called Fred to replace two garage springs on a Saturday. He showed up two hours after contacting him. I had one spring that was already broken. He suggested that I replace both, which I did. He replaced both within a 30-40 minute time frame. I was satisfied with the job that he did.

I had used Fred's Garage years ago (before Angie's List) to install a new garage door (they were excelent then) and seeing them on Angie's List, it sealed the deal to call them again. They were able to schedule and meet me. Roberto was on time and professional. He gave an estimate for the repair and with the okay, got right to work. He replaced the chain sprocket and checked the wall mount control switch. It was nice he had the part on the truck, no additional waiting or scheduling another appointment. Roberto cleaned and checked the system and the garage door opener is as good as new, if not better. I would highly recomend then.

Called Fred's on July 5 to inquire as to garage door replacement. Installer showed up promptly between 8:30 and 9 a.m. on July 6 as discussed. Installer provided estimate and was ready to begin work that afternoon. We scheduled the install for the next day and once again the installer showed up between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m. as discussed. Install lasted approximately two hours and included some adjustments to the door opener for smoother operation. Very smooth transaction and would recommend to anyone that needed service or replacement.

I was quoted 299.00 on phone. Alberto replaced 2 torsion springs and 1 torsion rod. He oiled all wheels and torsion spring. Took his time and was very professional. I did not expect the garage tune-up to be included in the price that was quoted, but it was. total price 285.00. I was very pleased with the service and quality of work.

Work was done in a timely manner and very professional. Replaced the hinge with a stonger one that may the condition of the door better than original.

I had reported this company several months ago, when our cars were literally trapped in our garage after the springs broke on the door. For some reason, the writeup does not seem to have appeared on Angie's List (??). At that time, we called Fred and he was out to our house on a Saturday, in an hour, to replace the spring. We were very impressed with his responsiveness and his reasonable price - and no surcharge for a weekend call! THIS time, we were having a problem with the sections of the metal door not coming together properly as the door was lowered by the opener. They were misaligned unless you pushed and pulled on the adjacent misaligned panels. We thought the door might have to be replaced. Fred traced the problem to some cracks in the backside of the door panels (because the manufacturer had not adequately reinforced them where the hinges were attached). Over the years, the metal near the hinges had warped or cracked in spots, causing the panels to "warp" as they came down. Rather than selling us a new door, however, Fred said he thought that adding a reinforcing beam across the door at that location might solve the problem. And it did! The door works perfectly once again and he saved us over $600 by not having to replace the door. And once again, he was at our home less than 2 hours after we called! This is a highly knowledgeable, highly responsive, extremely honest and reasonably priced garage door repairman that really deserves to be honored by Angie's List! Based on 2 experiences with him, I have nothing but the highest praise - he will treat you quickly, fairly and expertly!
