I never received a proposal from this man. First of all, I wrote my e-mail address in his note book and at that time he did ask me the spelling of my name. I went over it with him he said he got and will send me a quote. My question is, if you could not read my e-mail address why did you not call me? I have not received an e-mail or a phone call since that day. I would have gotten in touch with him. Again he had my phone number. He also could have left the proposal in my mail box. I have no problem sending my phone records or e-mails to an Angie's list representative to prove he has not contacted me. The statement he made about being late. I did say it was OK to come late. You are right about that, but I also expected a quote from you. After several weeks passed and no quote, I felt like you wasted my time, so I posted what happen and what I was feeling.

I sent this young man a proposal, i had a hard time understanding his writing and i tried to get back in touch by sending several emails with what i thought may work but that did not work either, I would hope he contact me where i can show him that I did a quote. He states I arrived late I called him to let him know my prior took longer then expected and if it was ok to come by rather then not show up, and he said no probleum.

Overall: excellent price, good work, great level of professionalism. I contacted Paul and he came right out and did an estimate. We negotiated and agreed that day on the work to be done and a price, which was very good. His team started work within the next couple of days. They arrived on time and were very professional, and Paul was very personable. He's been a little tough to pin down since his work has now taken him a little ways away from where I live, but generally he has been responsive. We've exchanged several phone calls and MANY emails. The ceilings in my place are very high and slanted, so having them come out and remove the popcorn ceiling at a great price was a bonus. LOVE the recessed lighting. The quality of work was pretty good (popcorn removal, bar grout, bathroom tub wall repair, light fixture replacement, painting), with the exception of the downstairs bathroom. I do realize that it is difficult to accomplish straight lines on textured walls, but I think this room could have been done a little better. I will go back and touch up what I can since they left paint for me. Also, there are a couple of things remaining to be done (texturing on the wall in the downstairs bathroom where the light fixture was replaced, and hanging a new light fixture in the upstairs bathroom since the old one was broken during the work), at which time I expect to upgrade the quality to "A." I appreciate the work the team did. I wish I had been in town more during the process so that I could give feedback along the way rather than at the end. It would have saved them time from having to come back to my place to address things (which were not huge), and it would have saved me from the angst I felt until things were done. The important thing is that Paul stated many times that he wanted me to be happy. I want that too. :-) So he's followed through on his word to address anything I wanted done - including referring me to a company for my carpet and getting a quote for countertops - and I expect that he will be back to my place as soon as possible to fix the last couple of things. I'm getting happier and happier each time I see him! My place is looking great. Still trying to figure out how a painter keeps his white clothes white!

Paul arrived as scheduled, allowed me to tell him what I wanted. Looked around the kitchen and gave me a bid for cabinet painting with me providing the paint. I then showed him the coupon which appears on this site and he said he never authorized this coupon. It would not be honored..He said he had another customer ask about it as well previously ,,, but the coupon was still out there. He also had words with a friend of mine who was overseeing other work I was having done. My friend was speaking on my behalf regarding the coupon and good business. I had another contractor out later that day for a painting bid. He came in two thirds less than Paul and his bid included the paint. I would not recommend based on my experience.

In response to Member its true I never knew Angieslist had a coupon for 549 for two men to paint cabinets, Anyone in my field knows you can not paint cabinets in that amount of time, her cabinets were in poor condition the last worker she hired gave her a 500 paint job I explained we would have to take the doors off the hinges totally strip to remove the wrong paint that had been applied as we were talking there was a tileman that heard us talking once I gave Member my price she agreed but then real quick said oh by the way I have a coupon, I explained that I could not honor something that I did not agree to this tile man said I as a contractor either way should honor this coupon , I asked very nice who he was at that point I asked if he could stay out of my business I then told Member that its not fair to me and that it would not bother me if she got someone else but i would not commit two men to do a 4-5 day job for that price i quoted her 2000 for a large kitchen she liked my price because she stated when can you start. This person she calls a friend threatened me in her house I apologized to Member for having to ask this tileman to keep out of my business, she agreed with me he shouldn't have done what he did,but as soon as I left Im sure he encouraged her to write a nasty report...Its probably good he"s not on Angieslist because he would not last with his temper. I let Member know that I would be in touch as soon as I left her home which I did I called that day and had these coupons removed from my site because I cannot feel right to try and work on a job knowing it can,t be done in that amount of time.

I called the phone, got a quick response. Was able to get a crew quickly in. I ended up using a coupon for 16 hours of work. I will never do that again. It took them 27 hours to get the two rooms done. I had a fixed bid, before, to get those rooms done for $300 each. This ended up costing me an extra $334. Think about it, you're paying them by the hour. Why would they get things done quickly for you? The longer they stay, the more you pay. Any future paint work will be done on a bid that I think is fair, period. This Angies List deal ended up costing me BIG TIME.

I met with the member He tried to get a weeks worth of work for 16 hours, I told him up front he would get a big media room with a ceiling 15-16 foot high along with another room that would require 2 coats which is like painting 4 rooms .we had to clear furnishing out prep room and paint twice because he wanted a dark brown over white walls he then had a blue room with the same probleum loaded with furnite that made the work alot slower, Before we started any work I instructed the member that i did not think we could complete what he wanted in 16 hours his responce was do what you can, at around 15 hours i let the member know where we we were at with the job i asked if he wanted us to stay to complete the job which it took and additional 11 hours between 4 men and he stated to go ahead. The media room used 5 gallons of paint which cost around 175 my price so I cant understand how he can price a big media room at 300, a job that size runs easily 750 -900 I think its unfair of this guy to judge my men bad when they worked hard to please a person who thinks he deserved more for what he paid, the member had metioned to me that he had someone quote him 6000 for the amount of work he had shown me and was excited to see a coupon for 500 dollars.

I found Paul on Angie's list. He met us at our house in Dallas where I showed him what we wanted to renovate. The above list shows what he actually did, and as you can see, the list was long. Paul and his crew are very professional; they all wear white uniforms and don't waste a second once they start their projects. I was very impressed by how much attention Paul paid to what I was requesting. Somehow, he actually understood what I was trying to describe, and added some suggestions when I felt unsure about some of my projects. I have never seen anybody perform a task so quickly, yet expertly; Paul was present the entire time the crew was there to doublecheck everything and supervise the job. For the first time in my life, I handed over my house key to somebody I had just met and spent most of the time out of town during the renovations . We communicated via cell phone, text messages, email, and exchanged pictures via the Internet. I periodically flew to Dallas to look at the renovations, and I can honestly say that every thing I requested was done exquisitely well! There is very little that Paul and his crew can't do, and his reputation is such that he is surrounded by people who are really quite skilled. I will never ask anybody else to perform some task, or renovation to our house. Whenever I did commute to Dallas and look at the progress I felt like a child in a candy store! We have a new house! Last but not least, I must say that Paul is an artist, and a great one! Paul: Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are the best!

We were getting our home ready to put on the market and received 4-5 bids. Paul provided a very detailed and fair estimate. His crew was very professional and it was evident that he ran a tight ship. When I would point things out that needed to be fixed, Paul was very happy to oblige. We had in mind a certain paint color, but know that we were going to be putting our home on the market, Paul offered his advice on what would show better. The entire job took about 5 days and we were very happy with the outcome. Our real estate agent also loved the work done by Paul and his team. Not only would I use Paul's services again, I would recommend him to anyone looking for a painter. The only criticism I had is that our calls weren't always returned when we had questions, but I was always able to talk to Paul when work was being done.

Paul Alvarez came to my home to give me an estimate on painting a bedroom ceiling and replacing a cabinet door hinge. I agreed to the price and set up a date and time for him to return to do the work. I subsequently made two phone calls to Paul concerning the type of paint that we should use. Both calls went to his voicemail. He never returned either phone call. On the scheduled day for work, he never showed up. I was a little more than frustrated with him since I wasted an entire afternoon waiting for him to arrive. I do not like to be treated this way and will never do business with anyone who does not have the courtesy to return a phone call or show up at the planned time to do work.

We contacted Paul and he came out the same day to look over the house to see what needed done. The next day we had an estimate and work began the following morning. All the guys were professional, expedient and cheerful. (What a treat cheerful was!) It took them three and one half days to paint every surface in the house. Every day we looked over the work and was thoroughly pleased with both the progress and the quality of the work. Each day they would clean up and tidy up. On the last day, we did a walk through with Paul as he wanted to make sure we were happy with the work. We were delighted!

Our garage floor was to be scraped of old paint, primed and painted. Alvarez arrive 2 hours late. Two days before he told me he would arrive between 9 and 10 AM. The night before he changed this arrival time to 8:00AM but did not show up until a little after 10:00. He said that he would pick up the paint needed for the floor and left so fast that he didn't confirm the color and did not take the color chart with him. I did tell him over the phone the day before that I wanted a medium gray. He left so fast that I didn't get a chance to ask him about the color. He left his partner to prime the floor. I just happened to check on the guy and noticed that he was painting over dirt and scraped paint that was on the floor. I tried to tell him to stop and sweep the floor first but of course this man could not speak English. So I found my broom and I swept out the garage and filled a dust pan with dirt and chipped paint that was scraped from the floor. Just then Alvarez arrived with the paint and I showed him the dirt that I swept up commenting that the floor should have been completely cleaned before any priming or painting took place. His comment was that the dirt must have blown back in the garage, and so it really wasn't his problem. I guess he was not smart enough to shut the garage door before telling his partner to begin painting. I swept right over the primer but it that had already dried. (Thus this floor now has dirt under the primer and the paint). So I left the two so called professional painters to their job. When the job was finished I opened the door and was shocked to see the floor painted a very light almost white floor! Imagine a painter who doesn't confirm the paint color with the home owner and who doesn't know what medium gray looks like? When it came time to pay him he added another $110 on to the bill. He and his partner worked on the garage a total of 1 and 1/2 hours. What a rip off! Later when the floor had dried I went out to check out the job and low and behold the paint was painted so thinly that the original light blue paint was showing through. I also found spots that were not scraped and were now flaking. After calling Alvarez several times and leaving voice mail after voice mail I realized that he took his money and ran. Never to be heard of again! He is a man without honesty, integrity nor character and a true rip off artist. He is a liar and I would not trust him. If this is what comes out of Angie's List then you can have it! Never again!Sincerely, A truly angry customer

Well To start with I told the customer that in order to do the job properly it needed to be sand blasted which she was very quick to state no because she wanted to return a pod they had rented. I sent her to the store to purchase the paint so that she would make sure to get the color she wanted, she then called letting me know she had not picked up the paint but she said would you pick up a medium gray so when i go to the paint store he opens a chart of floor paints i asked the store salesman which would you pick as a medium gray when he selected the color according to sherwin williams colors i agreed with the color. I quoted the customer a price for repainting the garage after she told me that her husband had power washed it and all i needed to do was paint it, I had a family emergency and was needing to leave town that evening i never shared my emergency with her but she was very persitent in getting the job done we agreed on the price plus material being extra there was no extra put in the job as a matter of fact I purchased a gallon of concrete primer to prime almost all the garage to seal all the paint that was scraped, I never said it was not my concern when paint flakes blew back in. I did leave to the store to get additional tools to complete the job and all she had to do was to call me on color. i purchased to gallons of floor paint that cost 50 a gallon plus tax they thought the paint cost 30 I let them know that was not the case. There floor was painted with a latex paint which was not done properly I told her you can only paint with a latex because it well blister if you apply epoxy After I spoke to the man of the house I said I will talk with the store on color but the store claimed they could not do anything about the color , I let him know I would repaint free if they picked up a gallon of paint, now where i was i could not receive calls but on my way home I listened to the mean messages she left I called her husband instead and left a message letting him know that I would do whatever it takes to fix the color etc. Its funny because she came out saw me sweeping the floor completely before rolling the floor, she stood there and was asking my worker all kinds of questions which he answered she payed after coming out and saying how great it looked, Im sorry she has the attitude she has towards us but she was very pleased , I know the grit that was under the 1st quote is not my probleum without sand blasting the old paint.Even after listening to her mean and rude phone call I still left a message saying I would still repair the floor. All the procedures we did was to provide a good looking floor which she was amazed on the amount of work we did prior to painting. The customer is wrong we were there from 9-to almost 12 she did not take into concern that i drove almost 40miles one way to get over there letting here know I would arrive 8-9.

The crew arrived promptly every day. They put down plastic on all the floors to avoid damage. They hung plastic on all the openings to the kitchen to keep the odor and mess from drifting into the rest of the house. They took the stove and refrigerator out of the kitchen and put them in the family room. They helped empty all the cabinets and stored the kitchen food items and dishes and utensils in boxes in the dining room. They removed all the doors from all the cabinets and painted all the cabinets inside and out (the cabinets had been finished wood, so they had to apply several coats of enamel to cover.)The work took from Monday afternoon through Saturday morning and everything was finished and cleaned up before they left. Work in progress was stored carefully overnight and everything was kept neat and clean while it was being worked on. The price included the cost of the paint and texture for the ceilings and walls.
Description of Work: Painted Kitchen cabinets, took down wallpaper and texturized and painted kitchen walls. Changed light fixtures in kitchen. Repaired ceiling in garage and on patio, retaped, and texturized the ceiling. Painted the interior of garage. Assisted with cleaning out storage room in garage, and repaired one wall in storage room. Repaired an interior door and repainted it.

Alvarez painting had a very competitive bid and had lots of experience doing drywall repair and painting. Paul's team was prompt, professional and complete. They arrived promptly at 8:00am and worked daily until 4:30. He even let my dogs out for me. They did such a great job, that we had them also repaint all trim and doors in the house and repair and paint the front shutters and soffit under the eaves. I would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: We had some minor foundation work done and had several hairline cracks in the walls of our greatroom, kitchen and several long-existing cracks in a few of the bedrooms. Additionally, we needed to have the walls in the great room, dining, hall and kitchen repainted. We added the doors and trim and some touch up paint projects to the job.

Paul Alvarez was very quick to respond to my call for an estimate. He met me at my house the same day I called him and emailed an estimate to me that same evening. He was very professional. They began plastering the cracks and painting very quickly also. The work was done within a short period of time. They were very clean and didn't leave a mess in the house at the end of the day. The quality of the work was good. I am very pleased with the way it looks. And we had a miscommunication about the color of paint to use on the fireplace but they re painted it without any problems. I would definitely use this company again and would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Alvarez Painting worked on the interior of my home after I had foundation work done this fall. They repaired large cracks in the ceiling and walls and painted the ceiling, walls, trim, brick fireplace, and wood cabinets in my entry hall, dining room, living room, kitchen, and laundry room.

Recently purchased a new home that was in dire need of updating. Called a few other painting companies for quotes and we given dates of a few days to a week in the future. Even after meeting with other companies, the quote still took weeks to get. Called Paul Alvarez and explained my hectic schedule and he did not hesitate to take time away from his family to come out on a Sunday to walkthrough. I received a quote back a few days later. Paul's price was slightly higher than some competitors, but we were able to come to a compromise. One of the benefits of using Alvarez painting were Paul's connections to other trades. He arranged reasonably priced tradesmen to come in and install doors, and decorative columns that he was able to get approved over his Iphone. Paul was quick to recommend styles and color options that he is seeing in the high end homes to give our home a modern appearance. He made recommendations that I hadn't considered that added to the overall look of the house. Paul was easy to reach during all phases of the project and the work was completed on time. Paul is an honest businessman and works hard to make you happy. When the final bill came the additions were fairly priced and he didn't charge for a lot of the additions. If you are on a strict budget, you may want to ask for the pricing on the changes prior to the work being completed. I look forward to working with him again in future projects.

I contacted Paul through Angie's List. Asked him to come over and look. He came the same day, looked at the work to be done. The was a lot to be done, so he broke it down to individual items and priced them individually. Since it was going to take 3 days and cost about $3,000 for the whole thing--I asked him if he could do the most pressing things in one day, and about $1,000. He agreed. Communication with him over email and phone was great. He is very responsive. He came in (on time) with an associate, and worked all day. He worked very clean and protected everything in my home. I didn't need to clean anything after them! He matched the wall color so well, that there is no way to tell where he fixed anymore. I would hire him again to continue the work in a few months, and will definitely recommend him to anyone!

It was a very pleasant experience, the owner Mr. Alvarez is very knowledgable and helpful on making choices, not only color, but all related remodeling items, so help me to make wiser decision not for current painting job but for my future remodeling project. During the whole process, there were several change orders, and we had issues, but it can always worked out with my satisfaction, and they are listening and patient, I felt they are very easy to work with. They came very early in morning and leave before kids back from school, work on saturday to keep my schedule, and the painting result was so nice and pretty. Overall, this job was done smoothly in a highly quality manner and on time. On the side note, when I had flat tire Mr. Alvarez and his staff was so kind to stop their job and offer their help to me (no cost) and save me a big trouble, it is really highly appreciated.
Description of Work: My job scope includes painting ceiling, wall, wallpaper removing, painting all bathroom cabinets, window sill, baseboard, and I have a full house people need live inside the house while doing the painting job. I finally choose Alvarez painting company because it is listed at the top one from angie's list, this is my first time to use angie list contractor.

Paul was very prompt in returning my call and providing an estimate (he actually came to view the property the same day I called him). When he came by to visit, he was very thoughtful about making color recommendations and giving us some ideas about the scope of work that would provide the most value. Even though Paul was tied up with a commercial job during the week we decided to use him, he agreed to work on the weekend to make sure our project would get done before the holidays. He showed up at 8am on Saturday morning, as promised. His 5-man crew was incredibly efficient at getting the area prepped, including taking down all of the artwork & draperies and protecting the furniture. It was obvious they were very experienced and took a lot of care in making sure nothing was damaged. Paul was always present and did a fantastic job of guiding his crew. The whole project was completed in two days and the quality of the result was excellent. He even fixed a few cracks around the windows that were caused from the house settling. I recommend Alvarez Painting with no reservations.

I received his estimate. Have not decided on the work.
Description of Work: Paul came out and reviewed the work that needed to be done. He was pleasant and professional. There was no discussion of a price. I told him I was ready to begin. He promised an estimate that evening. I referred him to a co-worker in the neighborhood for another job. We had problems with email, but I did get the estimate.

Paul promptly provided a quote in mid October and his pricing for each of the relatively small jobs was reasonable. Given his prior positive reviews and awards in Angie's List, I assumed all was well at this point and was prepared to engage Paul for the work quoted. I emailed and left two voicemails for Paul stating that I wanted to proceed with most of the quote. However, I did not receive a response for nearly a week. I then received a call from Paul stating that he had a family issue, which I understand. I had further questions about a portion of the quote where again, Paul was not responsive to my message. I later reached him via his mobile phone and he explained that he had landed a large job on a home. He clarified the quote and then said he could not commit when he could complete the work. I told him I would get back to him. Earlier this week, I sent another email to Paul about the work, again, no response. I have since given the work to another Angie's List award winning contractor that I have used and I am disappointed that Paul chose to ignore my calls and emails. Hard to understand from someone previously rated so highly by Angie's List reviewers.

The only thing I can add is when we were ready to take care of small repairs, Member was not available, I try and help everyone but I can't drop everything for 5- 10 hours unless Im completed with a prior customer. At one point I told Member moreless when I could do small repair and he instructed me that would not work and he was gonna contact someone else, I was fine with this but then all of a sudden he dropped another email informing me that he wanted to use our services, by then I had forgotten about that repair and took on other projects. Member's a nice genetleman but our schedules did not work out on this and for that Im sorry.

Paul and I talked on Monday 10/31/11 and set a meeting at my home at 5pm on Tuesday 11/1/11. On Tuesday, I called him at a little after 5pm to say I am coming from work and got delayed with a client and asked if he was at my home. He said no that he was delayed and did not think the current job would take as long as it had. I said fine and asked when could he arrive at my home. He said in 45 minutes - or about 6 pm. I said fine and made it home by 5:30pm. Paul had not arrived at my home by 6:15pm so I called him. He said he was getting ready to call me and that the current job still was not finished. I said okay, let's reschedule tomorrow. I said I have a flexible schedule and could meet him at my home if he gave me a 15 minute notice to leave work. Paul said good and that he would give me a call after he started the jobs in the morning. I agreed. Paul never called that morning and it has been 2 more days that have past with no call. I understand people get caught up at work - it happens all the time, but the right thing to do is to call and say you will be late or can we reschedule to another time. Just call. People are very understanding.
