Paul was quick to come out and provide an estimate. We communicated mostly via e-mails back and forth. That, it turned out, was a mistake since Paul's responses were short one liners from his Blackberry. In three separate emails I was trying to get a clarified list of what would be included and what would not be included but his responses were too short and curt. Nevertheless, I agreed and Paul was ready to start just one hour after I had closed on the home purchase. Paul was present the whole time during the painting and did all the work with his two other employees. They did a great job and finished one full day ahead of time. Nothing but praise about his work and quality. However, the miscommunications at the beginning became a problem. When Paul was finishing up I asked why the closets were not painted too. His response was that it is not customary to paint closets since I asked for just the walls. I wasn't happy with that and pointed out my several email attempts to get clarification. Paul and I agreed to paint two closets (master bedroom and pantry) and touch-up the others. I should have specifically asked for an "itemized" list of work but also felt that Paul bares that responsibility even more. In the end, we came to agreement and so I'll give him the "A" grade that he deserves based on all other aspects of the job.

Paul and his crew are great. I had a lot of drywall patching and texture matching needed in 5 rooms. They took areas that I felt would be difficult to match up, and made the areas look like no patching was ever needed. Then they pretty much painted the whole inside of my house. The job took four days. The crew showed up on time each day, and were very professional and polite.
Description of Work: Dry-walling and patching in five rooms. Some wallpaper removal in two rooms. Drywall texture matching, and new texture applied. Six rooms painted, with the ceiling in two of the rooms also being painted.

Paul is an exceptionally professional contractor. He began the job when he said he would. His estimate was right on target except only for the additional work I asked him to do while here (additional carpentry). Paul and his crew worked neatly, cleaning up every evening before leaving. They covered everything well and were very careful with all furnishings. This was a big job and they did a lot of taking down drapes and artwork, moving shelves, etc. and they put everything back. They were very careful with all furniture and they were conscientious of the related inconveniences to my family. Paul's carpenter was top-notch and very talented in woodworking. I left Paul and his crew in my home much of the time and felt completely confident that I could trust them. Paul supervises his workers closely and he carefully inspects their work to ensure it meets his high standards. Job took 8 full work days to complete. I will definitely call on him again and I highly recommend his services.
Description of Work: Paul Alvarez and his crew painted entire interior of our 2,800 sf home except for two kids' rooms and a game room which had been repainted in last few years. Two large areas of home have 20 ft ceilings. Also Paul's carpenter installed double (and some triple) crown moulding everywhere in our home we did not already have it. Substantial amount of wood work was done (much of it at 20 ft high) accounting for $3,300 of the total cost of job. Used 5 different paint colors throughout house. All trim was painted including doors/closet doors, window sills, all moulding and baseboards. All ceilings also painted throughout home.

It took about 2 1/2 days to do the work. At the end of each day, except for the paint cans and equipment in the garage (neatly organized and stacked) and the smell of the paint, I could not tell they had been working there. Everything was spotless inside the house. Because of the time he spent with me in helping me to choose just the right color, I am completely happy with it. I could not find any fault with the quality of the work. I have already hired him to do the next project in "renewing" my house.
Description of Work: Paul Alvarez returned my email promptly even though he was on vacation at the time. We arranged a time for him to come to the house for an estimate on painting the entry way, living/dining room as well as the stairwell and upstairs open living area. He arrived promptly and after talking to me about what I wanted and answering my questions, he looked at the areas, made some suggestions about choosing colors and said he would email a quote not only for the painting job but also for some other projects I had asked him about. He had the quote (including paint & labor) back to me within 48 hours. It was within my budget and he had come so highly recommended on this site, I did not even take other bids. I hired him and I was not sorry! He told me to buy some samples of paint in different shades/colors and then he came by the house and painted large swatches of the color in different parts of the rooms so I could "live" with it for a few days and see it in different light conditions before deciding on a final color. Because of his busy schedule, I had to wait almost 3 weeks for him to start, but I knew that up front and had no problem with it.

It went flawlessly. Paul Alvarez arrived on-time at 8 am, with his crew. The job took 4 workdays and the number of crew varied from time to time between 4 and 1. The crew arrived on-time each day and the work progressed steadily over the 4 days. Paul worked with his crew much of the time. They were all pleasant, professional, energetic workers. They moved heavy furniture to the room center each morning. They replaced the furniture, cleaned and straightened up at the end of each workday. Removing the popcorn texture was the first task. They effectively confined the dust and mess with plastic sheeting hung over doorways, shelving, floors. They finished that task in the first day and thoroughly cleaned everything, vacuuming and wipeing floors and surfaces. The paint was two high-contrast wall colors and nearly white trim. They did a very good job, straight nice lines between colors. The door frame repair is excellent--looks like it was never broken. At the end of the job they went over everything to find and correct problem areas, until both Paul and I were satisfied. Paul even corrected some old preexisting paint 'goofs' that had marred our stairs for years. Paul goes out of his way to please his customers and to do an excellent job.
Description of Work: Interior painting and wallboard repair: living room, stairwell, hallway, kitchen, utility room, family room. Also removed popcorn texture from living room ceiling and retextured. Repaired cracks and treated water stains throughout. Painted wooden windows, did cosmetic repair of broken door trim.

Paul Alvarez has done work for me before. Several months ago he quoted the work described. I was finally ready for the ceilings to be done for my bathroom remodel. He was responsive to scheduling the work and it was set for Friday Feb 12. That happened to be the day after the worst snowfall Dallas had in decades. He told me Friday morning was iffy which was understandable. When I didn't hear from him on Friday, I called and never received a return call. Over the weekend, email was exchanged. I asked about Monday which was a holiday and Paul said he was booked, so I assumed it would be later that week. Imagine my surprise when he showed up on my doorstep Monday morning wanting to do the work. I reminded him that he indicated Monday wasn't an option. He said that he sent me an email... that email was sent Sunday night at 8pm! When he didn't receive email confirmation from me, he should have called to confirm. Since I wasn't expecting them, I had started painting trim and doors and was in the middle of that project. Luckily the rooms were largely prepared for them to start work. So I agreed to let them start the work to avoid future scheduling hassels. I'm pretty disappointed on a number of points.... 1) I asked that the bad tape be removed and repaired in the master bath. I'd say that was 75% done. What wasn't done was painted over and there are some noticable bubbles in tape that should have been removed. 2) My expensive new cabinets were not covered and it looks like paint got in the grooves of the beadboard. 3) The crack repair in the master bedroom is not done very well. It looks like a very noticable repair was done. The crows foot texture should have been knocked down a bit with some rough sandpaper before it was painted to blend better with the rest of the ceiling. I'll probably have to do that myself and repaint those areas. 4) I'm still finding little spots that were missed, having to open the paint can and hit them myself. 5) While the crew was finishing up. I noticed a missed spot way up in the master bath skylight. The ceiling in there is 11 ft and the skylight probably another 2-3 ft on top of that. They had already put their extension ladder away. Instead of getting it, they grabbed my step ladder. I told Paul that I wasn't comfortable with them using that because it's too short and would require standing on the top rung ... which is clearly marked with "DO NOT STAND". His response ... "I'm insured". I was happy with Alvarez Paiting when they painted my kitchen cabinets but was very disappointed with them this time around. Based on this last experience, I doubt I will solicit their services in the future.

To answer to the member what we quoted we did. He is the type that trys to get as much out of you without paying. I had a contract and we did what it stated, he made everyone of feel like he knew more then us. we went above our means to please a person. He was very hard to get along with he looks you down thinking he's better then you. My guys kept saying why would you take a job from a person who acts like him My response was I help everybody. I am sorry that he fills like he does we covered everything the paint he's talking about was done by him when he primed the walls for paper. we even cleaned paint off his floor that he did and he had drips everywhere then he trys to blame a professional. I never quit on customers but i told myself I would never do another job for him.

Paul was prompt to respond to my phone call, punctual in coming out to give us an estimate of the work and did a very professional job of painting these three hallways, one of which was rather long with a lot of woodwork such as an outside access door with windowpane glass panels, an attic access door which was in terrible condition with peeling paint, and three additional bedroom/bathroom solid wood doors. The men left no mess and the job looked great. We also got an estimate for some additional work we want him to do after our wood floors are completely finished. We thought he was rather expensive, but quality trumps cost at our house and we read favorable reviews on Angie's list and based our decision to use Paul based on those.
Description of Work: Paul and an assistant painted the walls and woodwork (including 8 doors) of three hallways in our home which had newly laid hardwood floors which were "curing" for 2 weeks before being stained and finished. This job needed to be completed on a specific date to coordinate with our other remodeling work.

Paul came out and gave us a quote for repainting the exterior of our home. He was very prompt and courteous. The quote he gave, compared to the others we received, was lacking. It was a quick synopsis of the linear footage of replaced wood, and stated that they'd wash, caulk, and paint with two colors. This paled in comparison to the other quotes that were a full page of detail for me to use in the decision making process. Before he left, I asked Paul a bit more on their process, paint selection, and turnaround time. He was very nice and provided the details I requested. We ended up choosing another company. The main deciding factor was the level of detail they provided in their quote. Price was comparable, though the one we chose was slightly cheaper. The only reason I say I wouldn't use Paul again is due to my level of satisfaction with the company that did the work.

Anytime I do quotes especially on exteriors there very easy to quote with what were going to do from the beginning to the end. As he stated I explained how we paint exteriors and he was very pleased, if he would have asked for all the info to be put on a contract we also do that. My quote was fast because he looked like he was rushing when he came to the door with food in his mouth on his lunch break, I will use this for my next appointments so that all are informed on paper on our procedure.
It went great! Paul Alvarez is wonderful to work with. He is absolutely professional from start to finish, and he maintains an experienced and professional crew as well. He is extremely knowledgeable, and made sure that I had all the information I needed to get exactly what I wanted, while achieving the best price possible for the job. For instance when he first came over for the estimate, I told him I needed to replace several doors because they had taken much abuse from my dog. Rather than giving me a price for new doors, he gave me a price on repairing them as well. This alone saved me about $900.00. Also, I was having problems with my Master Batch shower leaking onto my drywall. I figured I would need to have the shower doors, or possibly the floor pan replaced. When I showed Paul, he knew right away that all it was needing was a re - caulking, and I have not had any problems with the shower since he repaired it for me. Originally, I had only contracted Paul for the paint, but when my floor company dropped me off their schedule to take a bigger project, Paul said not to worry. He called in a contact of his for the floors, and I could not be more happy with the results. He also has contacts in a variety of other fields such as plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. Alvarez Paint is a one stop shop for contracting. They have the experience to take care of your home project the right way, and they do it fast! And moreover, Paul Alvarez is a first class kind of guy, I am going to recommend Alvarez Paint Company to all my friends and family!
Description of Work: Painted complete exterior of house including entry door ways. Painted approximately 2,200 square feet of interior of home, kitchen cabinets, and garage floor using epoxy paint. Applied texture to several rooms including kitchen to cover wall paper without the need of removal, which looks amazing! Really amazing, gives textured look seen in high end homes! Repaired one interior door which had taken serious abuse from a very lovable and adorable but extremely excitable doggie. Replaced one doorway which said doggie damaged beyond repair (doorway we take to go on our walks). Repaired drywall in Master bath and re - caulked shower so that I would not have leakage issues and drywall problems any more. Removed 980 square feet of carpet and installed Laminate floors (Paul told me a great place to buy the floor material).

Paul and his 2-man crew (3 total) did a great job and very quickly. Paul was very responsive to my requests for a quote; arrived early to do his estimate; and followed-up with me after his estimate to negotiate, since I knew I couldn't afford to paint every room inside the house all at once. Once we decided which rooms we could afford to paint, he and his crew showed up on time, as promised, and completed all the work within 2 days. We agreed in advance to have his supplies stowed in our garage overnight, but, other than that (and the new colors on the walls), you couldn't see any signs of painting work going on inside the house. All my rooms were clean and tidy. He had left at the end of day 2 before I got home from work, and called me the next day to make sure I was pleased with what had been done. I couldn't have asked for a more professional experience and would definitely recommend him to anyone. He got a "B" on price, only because I'm still in shock over how much it costs to paint these days, but his pricing was definitely competitive. Only one bid came in lower, but the other painter could not do the job as quickly, and was not nearly as thorough, curteous, or prompt during our estimate meeting. I made the right choice with Paul, and will be calling him to come back and paint the other rooms inside the house once we've saved up for that work.
Description of Work: Painted the interior walls of master bedroom and bath; two childrens' bedrooms and a playroom, each with accent colors/multiple colors; repaired/patched and painted some large drywall holes.

They clean up everday and his painters are also proffessional.
Description of Work: painted 22 interiors doors that were recently installed. painted new cabinet doors and drawers in two large bathrooms, laundry room, small hall and one large hallway with cabinets and wall of cabinet doors and drawers in one bedroom. Our experience was great. Paul gave us an estimate on Wednesday. His crew had a half day available the next day. They were on time. Paul's attention to detail was great. You can not tell there was ever a leak. He matched the color perfectly to the existing ceiling color. The insurance adjuster said she had never seen such a good job. I was so pleased. I was afraid I was going to have to paint the ceiling and we have an open floor plan. Paul's attention to detail showed during the whole experience.
Description of Work: We had a plumbing leak in an upstairs bathroom that damaged the ceiling over the kitchen. After the plumbing repair we had a hole in the ceiling and a large stain. Paul and his crew replaced the sheet rock, re-taped the area, painted it and sprayed popcorn texture. Paul left and got more dye to match and blend the new texture with the old texture. The repair was finished in an afternoon.

The project went smoothly. Painters arrived for work promptly and everything was cleaned up at the end of the day. There were several areas where I had contrasting colors coming together on inside and/or outside corners and there was some touch up needed following completion of the project. Paul responded promptly and straightened up the edges. I found that the best way to contact Paul is via e-mail.

All of this work was completed in 5 days. Paul Alvarez is an exceptional person of great character. He and all his group take great pride in their work and it shows at the end of the project. They work through your home very fast, yet the quality of work is impeccable. I am "extremely" picky and their work was right in line with my expectations. Paul and his group want to please their clients and this will always be the outcome of their projects. As always when you have capable people, you think of other things that need to be done when they are working in your home. There is nothing this group cannot do and do it well. They treat your home as if it was their own at all times. At the end of each day, you hardly know they have been working in your house. It is clean and straight. They move everything with great care. All items were covered and protected and we had not "one" spot of paint where it should not have been, or any damage of any kind. It was truly amazing watching them move through my home and complete this project in such a short time. I was dreading the process, but Paul and his group make it virtually painless. They are a joy to have in your home. This contractor does not cut corners on his work. It is done right the first time. We were so pleased we immediatly contracted them to paint the outside of our home. A separate report has been written. This was done so beautifully, they are now in the process of re-stained our fence.
Description of Work: Painted complete interior of home+closets, excluding master bed/bath. They removed shelving in a bedroom, and picture framing in living. Trowel work was done in living and guest bath. Faux painting was done in recessed ceiling in dining area. Repaired damaged walls in many areas. Refinished stained cabinetry in kitchen, laundry, master closet and guest bath. Removed old trash compactor and carpenter built 3 new drawers, along with rebuilding remaining drawers in kitchen. The drawers are built to last and slide so easily. They installed wood corner guards on walls. Repaired ceiling in hall and guest bathroom from water damage. They installed a new steel back door, and installed and stained a new wooden front door.

Great! Mr. Alavarez personally gave me an estimate for all work done. He helped me pick a paint color and gave me suggestions whenever I asked for his advice. He and his crew showed up on time everyday and completed the job one day ahead of schedule. Everyone was clean and neat. They were careful with everything in my house and cleaned up at the end of each day. Mr. Alvarez was very professional and quickly addressed any issue that came up. For example, because we didn't have all of the trim painted, it was very important that the color of the newly painted trim match the color on the trim we weren't painting. Mr. Alvarez noticed that the trim paint color was off just a tiny bit and he immediately had it adjusted. Mr. Alvarez was very responsive to any requests & questions I had. Notably, I could see where the ceiling was patched in the evening light. (In daylight it looked great, but at night you could see the patches.) I mentioned that to Mr. Alvarez the next morning and he and his crew fixed the problem.
Description of Work: Painted all walls and ceilings in my living room, dining room, kitchen, den, 2 hallways and foyer. Painted baseboards in living room, dining room, kitchen, den and one hallway. Painted the handrail on staircase. Patched and textured 6 holes in the den ceiling. Installed and painted crown molding in den, kitchen and 1 hallway. Installed and painted door casings for entries into living room, dining room and den. The price includes labor and all materials.

They did a great job. Excellent. This is our third job using Paul.
Description of Work: Paul and his crew quoted us for a new shower. After the work started, it seemed like a good idea to expand that to include new tile around the bathtub. They gutted the old shower right down to the installation. We got a new concrete shower pan they laid built, formed, and poured on the spot. They did an excellent job. Really very good. This bathroom and shower was built in 1992. We had glass blocks added from a previous alternation about 8 years ago, and wanted to keep them. They worked around them very well. They added some design tiles to the shower to keep it interesting, and then added some of those same smaller design blocks to the existing bathroom floor tile to help tie it all together. We also got new shower pluming, new fixtures, and a new frameless shower door. They came back and sealed the shower as well. They cut all the tile outside so as to not make a mess inside. They cleaned up after themselves very well, and laid down paper and plastic tracks from the door to the bathroom so as to minimize what they brought inside with them.
