MCM HEATING & AIR COND

My experience was terrible! Darrel Timmins, TACL B 24634 C, looked briefly at my non-functioning system, claimed he detected a Freon leak in the inside portion of the unit and gave me a multi-thousand dollar estimate. I got a second opinion. The technician filled the system with nitrogen and immediately identified a huge leak in a valve in the outside unit. He fixed it and refilled the system for a fraction of the MCM estimate. He also mentioned that to detect a leak in the inside unit, the large stack on the top of the inside unit must be removed. Timmins did *not* do this. When confronted with this later on the phone he claimed he "snaked his detector down by some brass" whatever that means. Two conclusions are possible: 1. Either MCM attempted to take advantage of a senior citizen (and service veteran) by trying to trick me into a huge, unnecessary repair or 2. They are totally incompetent. Either way, you DO NOT want these people working on your system! I repeat: don't let these charlatans near your house!!

I got a call early Saturday afternoon from Darrel offering to come out on Saturday. I called him back and explained that my warranty company wouldn't pay an adder for week-ends or overtime and he said that was OK. I also told him as much as I appreciated the offer, I had a tight schedule as I was committed to a 50th wedding anniversary in a couple hours. He thought he could get here and finish by then and he did. He came out and identified the problem as a capacitor and quickly had it replaced. He called the home warranty company for authorization and waited at least 25 minutes to talk to them. I suggested he add some time to the bill but he said he was OK. I guess he finally got through as I told him go ahead and drive to his next appointment rather than waste any more time in my driveway. He did a nice job in fixing our heat pump/AC unit and he said he also treated it to minimize the chance of fire ants getting in and messing it up later which we often see around here. I was very pleased that he got here two days early, was easy to work with, and didn't complain about having to deal with a home warranty company, even when he had to wait on hold for 25+ minutes to talk to them. His bill was $143. He said he only uses American parts and they are substantially higher but that they are warrantied for five years. If paying an extra $30 on the capacitor saves us a couple of days during the Texas summer without AC and also saves us another service call, it's probably worth it. Thanks!

They are pretty punctual and they come when I call them. They are not outrageous on their prices. The workers are professional. They do a good job. I would recommend them.
