SELECTIVE TOUCH

I found the service to be adequate most times. However, I did not enjoy working with Ms. Pelnik around setting up appointments or voicing complaints. She was frequently gruff and unpleasant and eager for me to book as many cleanings as possible. We had a regular tradition of half-house cleanings once or twice a year and she was never consistent with the price, often seeming to offer amounts as high as she thought she could get away with. The women who cleaned the house were pleasant and their work was fine, with a few exceptions. One consistently put the trash in our recycling bins, even after I pointed this out to her. We did have some problems of house cleaners coming earlier or later than planned, sometimes even interrupting my husband in the shower. The most telling point was when I called to discontinue the service and Ms. Pelnik was again unpleasant to deal with. She sounded defensive and angry, whereas a better response would have been to want to improve her service.

Arrival times varied, from 1 hr. Early to 40 mins late, so poor communication between Ms. Pelnik & her staff. Women are friendly, mostly Spanish speaking, some with little English; don't always understand instructions. Often on personal cell calls during work. Usually did an okay job, but missed details, corners, didn't move large furniture to clean under/behind it. Items moved for cleaning were often not put back in the right place. If I didn't set out the Pergo cleaner myself, they used the wrong cleaner on the laminate floors; by sheer luck, no damage. Once one woman accidentally turned the gas on my stove while cleaning it and didn't realize that she had done so. The burner did not ignite, but the house filled with gas, and we had to leave as soon as we got home until authorities declared it safe (woman was horrified & apologetic, but Ms. Pelnik was grudging in apology and did not offer any compensation; agreed to one free cleaning after I asked. She is pushy about scheduling too.
