Upon having a pipe burst during a freak snow storm I set off to find a plumber. The task was not easy, as everyone I called were already backed up and unavailable for days, some weeks. These were some of the lowest temperatures Texas had experienced, and our home were not prepared. Roy, one of the scores of plumbers I had been contacting, called back and said he'd be out later that day. Yippee, I thought. But, a'las, it would be too good to be true. Roy stopped by, found the location of the leak but said he would not be able to fix it until the next day when temperatures had risen. He said why fix it now if the water within will freeze tomorrow? I thought this was strange for two reason: 1) The temperature the next day, according to the weather man, would be the same as today - both below freezing. Actually, it would be below freezing for the next few days. 2) If he did fix the pipe, then the water would not freeze because of the warm air coming in from the hole he would have to make in the drywall. This didn't feel right... I asked him how much it would cost. He said he didn't know until he started working. But the fee to come out and visit would be $165.00. Ok, first, I own a few properties and have dealt with this before. A repair like this would usually be around $200, minus the cost of drywall repair. He had to have some idea of the cost. Second, he had made no mention of the $165.00 visitation fee - or any fee - which is almost as much as doing the work/repair! So, was it more profitable to hit a ton of homes for the quick $165/charge than doing the actual work? That would be taking advantage of desperate home owners during the Texas winter storm of the decade. I hope he wasn't doing that, but I dunno. But I do know I felt very uncomfortable being ask for $165 for no repairs being done along with his reasons for not doing the repairs at the time of his visit. Finally, reading J.R.'s review is surprising (and suspect), because it's the opposite of my experience. Is the review even real?

Very prompt and did the job at a very competitive price! I've used other plumbers for years and felt I was overcharged. This time a friend told us about Roy and he turned out to be terrific!

Great service! He showed up when he said he would, he called to let me know he was on his way, the price he quoted me was exactly what I paid. No hidden charges or add-ons, was courteous and cleaned up after the work. I called around and got many estimates before I decided to go with him. There was one other estimate that was in line with his but ALL the others were hundreds more and several estimates from VERY well known local plumbers were $500+ more. Highly recommend - Roy Cranfill - Roy the Plumber!
