+ 0 moreReview for Plumbing by Jay...after a fairly minor visit, we knew our hot water heaters were probably on the edge of utter failure...our 3 were installed in 2007, so on the extreme side of shelf life for H2O heaters. Typical 8-10 yrs if lucky. Jay did a quick visit after other visit to give us a quote and was super thorough regarding attic H20 heaters to include an intelligence leak detection so if there's ever any kind of leak or water w/in the pan, an auto shutoff occurs on valve in addition to an alarm/beeping to let you know. Yes an additional small cost but knowing anyone who's not had, the damage is not good. Jay was awesome on install day, was prepared to lay down drop matts everywhere and did his magic. 3 new H20 heaters and able to indicate 1 was about to go, so very lucky to get him in when we did. Great pricing, great customer service. Extremely happy and highly recommend Jay for all plumbing needs. Not gonna post pics cuz who wants to see H20 heaters in attic?? But if needed I would/could...don't delay if yours is 7+ years old. Better safe than sorry.

+ -1 moreJay is a nice man, but obviously very much in demand. He can be hard to get hold of and schedule, particularly for an emergency, but as this was for a non-emergency this worked out fine. We did have a few minor hiccups when water came pouring out of pipes when I think he had forgotten to turn the valves off before turning water back on or something like that, but it was quickly cleaned up with some of my old towels. Everything else proceeded uneventfully. It also took a little bit of time to get a receipt (perhaps a week or so) but I think it's just because he is really busy with the amount of work he has on. Overall very nice but given he can be hard to get scheduled we are now using another plumber as our primary "first call" plumber.

He spent about 30 minutes diagnosing the problem and presented me with several alternative solutions, including pros and cons and pricing of each. He spent more time than estimated to complete the work due to rain and snow plus difficulty getting access to the supply line, but kept me informed throughout and finished the job at the estimated price. I found him to be responsive, reliable, and trustworthy and an excellent alternative to chain plumbing contractors.

+ 0 moreJay is a class act and did a great job today. I would highly recommend. He is the son of a plumber, local guy small business owner who works on his own which I really appreciate. Jay is a straight shooter who does what he says he is going to do. He and I communicated via email and made arrangements over a few exchanges after he provided some good advice to my problem. Since he isn't part of a large company you will get Jay or his wife communicating back with you. No auto replies. He showed up when he said he would, and the price was what he said it would be. In fact, Jay discovered one of my water heaters was sitting on unsupported plywood. Without asking or charging more, he laid out some 2x6 pieces and set up a good foundation. That added about 30 min to the job but he wanted it done right. Keep small business alive and call Jay.

He diagnosed my hot water heater problem and had it repaired promptly. Jay had to replace a thermostat and both elements and gave me a very good price on the work. I would definitely use his company again and I highly recommend Plumbing by Jay to others.

He always provides a knowledgeable, fair, and accurate estimate for the work to be performed. He doesn't try to oversell you. He does the job that needs to be done and does it the right way and to code. He doesn't over-engineer the solution and overcharge, and he doesn't underbid the job and take shortcuts. He uses quality parts and does quality work. As a result, there is real value for your money. I won't let any other plumber work in my house.
Description of Work: Over the last 10 years, Jay has done the plumbing for my major master bathroom remodel as well as installed upgraded faucets and toilets in the remaining bathrooms, replaced the water heater, run a recirculating line, performed general maintenance, and more.

+ 0 moreI gathered many estimates before finding Jay and was very pleased with the result. Estimates varied wildly and I wanted to be sure the job would be done correctly for the best price. I discovered that some of the lowest estimates were for plumbing only and the trenching work I would have to find a separate service. I also learned that some of the lowest bids were a daily price. Jay provided all the services required and the estimate was accurate. He was friendly, efficient and skilled. The job was finished in just over two days.
Description of Work: Replaced collapsed kitchen and laundry room drain pipes. Included pipe under foundation on the side of the house. Trenched for the new pipe. Tied into the sewer line. Acquired needed permits and inspections. Back filled the trench and replaced concrete floor removed inside. Returned sprinkler to working order.

+ 1 moreWe were getting ready to go on vacation and smelled gas. Called Jay left a message and within the hour had called us back to set the appointment for that same day. He was delayed on a pervious job for 30 minutes but called in advance which I really appreciated. He located the leak and fixed it. Also while he was there, we had a toliet another company fixed several times but always had issues. He found the source of the problem; replaced the shut off valve, supply line and all the guts of the toliet. Since then we haven't had any problems with it.
Description of Work: Found & fixed a gas leak in our fireplace Toliet rebuild - new shut off valve, supply line & rebuild kit (flush valve, fill valve, tank to bowl bolts & gasket.

As one reviewer stated, he uses technology to his advantage and invests in technology/tools for his business. I highly recommend Jay. He does quality work at a fair price, and you won't regret using him.
Description of Work: When I bought my home, the inspector made several recommendations, including getting a new water heater, possibly elevating the main water shutoff valve closer to the ground, and fixing the toilet which barely flushed. I called Jay at my sister's recommendation. He showed up promptly, made an estimate and recommendations, which I accepted. He was curteous and professional, and obviously knowledgeable. I ended up replacing the water heater and at Jay's recommendation, installing an expansion tank and an overflow shutoff valve, in case of a water leak; he also suggested installing an industrial-grade water shutoff valve at the main shutoff into the house ($600--the previous "faucet vale" was flimsy at best). Total expense was $2000. Not knowing very much about this, I began investigating and I was interested in whether I was getting a good value. Since I was a new home owner, I had no real frame of reference for the cost of a water heater. I began to do research and emailed Jay, asking for the model of water heater, partly because I was interested and partly so I could separate the real cost of a water heater from Jay's charges. I also became interested in installing a high efficiency water heater and I began to discuss this with Jay via email; he was supportive and helpful, making several recommendations. I am sure I drove him crazy with my questions, for what was really an easy job; however, he answered my questions and even called the water heater representatives to ensure info was accurate and plumbing supply houses to get prices. As I investigated, I realized a high EF water heater didn't make economic sense, but when I asked Jay the price for a high-EF water heater, it seemed to come back with high estimated costs. While I never questioned Jay's capability or professionalism, I did begin to question whether I would get a good deal. At that point, I investigated other plumbers and even plumbing supply houses. The prices were all similar to jay's charges/services, if you could consider the expansion tank, shutoff valve, etc. At that point, it was clear I should use Jay. installed items 1-3 for $1400 and item #4 for $600. 1. Water heater, including all new fittings. Plain vanilla bradford white water heater, m-I-5036fbn. 2. Expansion tank, which is generally recommended. New drip pan. 3. Overflow shut off vale. 4. Industrial grade Main shut off vale to the house. Prices were fair and Jay is professional, a real expert and trouble-shooter, and seems to really enjoy what he's doing. As one reviewer stated, he uses technology to his advantage and invests in technology/tools for his business. I highly recommend Jay.

+ 0 moreOur hot water heater went bad and we wanted to goto a tankless installation to save money in the longterm. We had two existing water heaters that were gas powered. It would take a long time for the hot water heaters to heat up, then when one broke, we knew we wanted a new solution. Plumbing by Jay came out and made some recommendations and gave us an idea on ho long the installation would take. He worked with the City of Allen to make sure his work was above and beyond what the city inspectors were looking for. This meant he spent more time than he probably had originally estimated, but it passed inspection and he spent time showing us everything he did, explaining his work, and teching us how to operate the new system. He even showed us all the forms we needed to complete to get a federal tax incentive. As far a Plumbers go, Jay is top notch. He takes care in his work, leverages technology to his advantage, and really goes out of the way to make sure you are satisfied.

+ -1 moreHe did some plumbing work for us several times and did not charge us for it. My husband tried to do the work himself, but the water heater‘s parts broke one after the other. We just back from Paris and we were cold and tired and he came out right away and fixed it. He also let me watch and ask questions. He has an office in his van and will go and get something printed off and get it right away and even emailed me when I needed for something bigger. If I had to call a plumber, he is the one I will call.
