Despite keeping the laptop for most of a week, they were unable to find the problem. They shipped it to McKinney because the Frisco shop had no qualified personnel. I only got progress reports when I called. In the process, they changed the CMOS battery for which they charged $125. The battery costs about $5 and is about as difficult to change as the one in your flashlight. Never again with these guys.

I am sorry to hear that you felt that you had a negative experience regarding your last repair with PC Geeks. When I saw your review and feedback, I took the liberty to look up your ticket to get a sense on what the situation was. When you brought your laptop to us in a disassembled condition, you had requested for us to replace a CMOS battery due to intermittent POST issues. This was after you attempted to repair the machine yourself, but were unable to do so. As the machine was dropped off fully disassembled, the technician informed you, and noted in our electronic ticketing system that all internal components are considered damaged until we test and prove that they are not. It is not uncommon for non-professionals to disassemble their equipment and damage it further in the process. Due to this, we took extra care to diagnose the problems that you were experiencing with your laptop. We pride ourselves on our quick diagnostic and turnaround time. While others take weeks for these repairs, we take days. The timeline for your repair as detailed in our ticketing system was as follows, you dropped the computer off on Monday, 6/5 at 10:05AM. From there the machine was diagnosed. Throughout that day and into Tuesday, we experienced intermittent problems. When problems are not immediate or constant, it will make the diagnostic process take more time as issues have to persist for us to evaluate the problem. I tried several different repair attempts while it was in the shop with me. I called you at 12:12PM on Tuesday for your password. I got your password at 1:34PM. I advised you I would like to rule out the OS and SSD by performing a fresh install on a new SSD, a test of which was at no cost to you had it not fixed the issue. You approved this. By 5:32PM (still on Tuesday) I called you with information that the machine started to have issues in the POST process. At this time I informed you that it would be better for this machine to go to our Allen store, where a technician could rule out more hardware with spare parts he had there and also to make sure there was no delay in your repair. In order to serve our customers as fast as possible, equipment may be looked at by other technicians. You had no problems or complaints with this process. This by no means infers that there are no qualified technicians in our Frisco store. Gregg in our Allen location spent all day on Wednesday working on the repair, by Thursday at 4:38PM we had a resolution that should solve it; replace the CMOS battery and perform an OS/RI. I explained to you that we had to rule out the internal components prior to addressing the OS further due to the issues we were experiencing with your machine. I left you a voicemail at 4:38PM. You called me back on 5:16PM (Thursday) and approved the labor rates of $125.99 for a CMOS (part) cost, and replacement procedure with our professional technical aptitude. The repair was completed on Thursday and the machine was put back together. Once it arrived from Allen to Frisco, The technician performed the second stage QC form. This form ensures that all equipment is working 100%. However during the QC testing (at 11:49AM on Friday) the machine started to experience the same boot issues, indicating that there was more wrong than just the CMOS battery that you originally presumed. Unfortunately you were going out of town for an extended period of time and told us you needed the laptop, which meant we were unable to perform any additional diagnostics. We informed you that when you come back to town you can bring your machine and we will continue diagnosing at no charge for you. You picked up the computer on Friday, 6/9/2017 at 12:20PM with no complaints or reservations towards what you were told. You paid for nothing other than the $49 diagnostic at check in for your machine. You were not told the computer was repaired. You were not told you would have to pay extra money for anything. We delivered the laptop back you in an assembled state. It is unfortunate that you never came back into the store or called with any issues and have not bothered to reach out to us with any concerns but rather would leave a negative review with significant inaccuracies as have been noted above. We openly encourage any client to come back to the store to speak with anyone in management to solve any issues. We are proud of nearly twelve year reputation, and when we receive reviews like this, we vigorously will defend it. Should you still need a repair of your laptop, you diagnostic will still apply and we would be happy to serve you in any way that we can.

When I first took the computer in I was told I would get it back within two days and it took like six days to get it back. This was a computer that I needed to use for everyday use. When someone quotes me a time frame they shouldn't promise something that they couldn't deliver on. I think it was like $270. He has zero personality, and he is not very customer service oriented. The thing that stood out was that I was told I would get my computer back in a reasonable amount of time and it took much longer to get it back. They would have got a better grade if they returned my PC when they said they would.

I appreciate feedback from our customers, because it helps us improve the customer service experience. With that being said, I would like to address two points that you made in your review. You stated that you were promised a two day repair time frame from our technician. The laptop was fully diagnosed, within the same day of its check in; you were quoted a parts and labor repair estimate. The specialized parts required for your repair had to be shipped from a vendor with a three to four business day ship time, which you were informed of. The repair process was delayed nearly one business day because you wanted to explore the possibility that the repair was under warranty by the manufacturer. When you discovered after reaching out to them that it was not, you called us back and approved the repair cost and shipping time frame. The parts were ordered as soon as the call was completed. The parts were ordered late in the day on Jan 19th arrived in four days on Saturday 23rd, were installed and the laptop was ready for pickup first thing the following Monday morning. The second point regarding customer service, was a surprise to us because you appeared to be completely satisfied with the repair and the repair experience in every interaction that we had with you and during the checkout process. Your repair was completed and picked up on January 25th, and this review was posted on March 10th. It is unfortunate that you elected to leave this review that misrepresents what transpired during the repair process. I take pride in my company’s reputation which is reflected in our other numerous Angie’s List reviews, and our BBB rating. I used PC Geeks Computer Repair. It was about $250. I used them in March of 2015. The computer burnt up in six more months so you know and I had to get a new one. I was suppose to get it back in a certain period of time and they didn't do that. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and take it back and now I definitely won't use them again.

I thought they would transfer my old data to my new laptop. They did in a way by downloading it to an external hard drive which I provided. In hindsight, I could have done that myself; however, I do have my old data on my new computer, which was the goal. Jeremy was very nice and professional.

After reading the problems that the unit had, a diagnostic was ordered and it was suggested that a larger power supply was needed to make the system work a peak performance. Call back to me with what was required, and did I want to save certain data. A full backup was approved and unit returned working like new. A larger power supply was NOT required, per several hours of operating at full capacity during their tests. This is the second time these experts have worked on a computer that needed service. (A different computer than the one that was just repaired).
Description of Work: Removed multiple virus and malware systems from my desk top. System would not load Windows 7 OS the with a normal start-up. They had to back up all the data before reformatting the OS. Works great. There's a $49.00 service charge that's applied to any work that they perform.

Description of Work: My laptop had stopped working. Requested an estimate and they told me I had burned up my motherboard. They replaced that and then found I also had a bad video card. Replaced that also. They also troubled shoot my system and found other issues. They also corrected those too. They were wonderful to work with and went to extremes to try to locate the needed computer part at a reasonable cost. Totally professional.

Michael clearly explained the work they would need to do and what the cost would be - $124. For this they were going to wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall the Windows system and the other programs I had on the computer. I had no personal files on the computer, so there was no problem backing up anything. I brought in the computer on a Saturday and it was ready to be picked the following Monday afternoon. I am very pleased with the service I received and the cordiality from Michael. I was concerned about the price before going to PC Geeks thinking that it could be expensive but was surprised at the low cost compared to what they needed to do. So, for $124 I have a nearly new computer. By the way, Michael also mentioned that they will take in old, non-working computers to be recycled.

We just purchased two new computers and had The Geek Squad through Best Buy do the installation and copy our information from the old to the new computers. It turned into a nightmare with The Geek Squad......to the point that two days later I was on the phone for over 4 hours with one of their "technicians" trying to resolve the email problems we were experiencing due to their incorrect installation. The issues still weren't corrected when I finally got off the phone. I could go on and on about my awful experience with them but enough of my nightmare. I phoned PC Geeks on 10/17/11 and Matt was here the next morning promptly at 10AM for our scheduled appointment. He came in and got right down to business and had both computers sending and receiving emails within minutes. He also explained that I can request him by name next time, should we need their services in the future, rather then having a different person who isn't as familiar with our computers. I like that! Finally, I've found an honest company who knows exactly what they are doing!

My desk top computer was infected by a virus that got through my MCAFEE firewall/ virus scan and spread to every part of the computer. Work products, family photos and everything else was not accessible. I took the computer to PC GEEKS who removed the virus, cleaned it up and I only lost a couple of MS Word files that were not critical to anything. I got my computer back in two days and had a couple of additional questions when I was unable to find a file or two. They listened to my questions, walked me through the process of finding the files in the directory and NOT ONCE did I get the "you are too stupid" impression from the individual I was talking to. Great service... I've already referred friends to them and will use them again.

I was having performance issues with my laptop. In the past I took my computers to Best Buy. However, I was not impressed with their service. I found this reference on Angie's List and decided to give it a try. It was a much better expereience! This is a small operation. I dropped the laptop off at lunch Wednesday without waiting in line for 20 minutes (which negated the extra 5 minute drive). And then I had a call with a diagnosis that afternoon. The hard drive was bad. It still under warranty so they contacted the company to get a new one. By Friday late morning (less than 48 hours) they had the new hard drive installed, the operating system re-installed, and data transfered from the old hard drive. Very impressive. It would have taken 10 days at Best Buy. A+++

One thing I really like about their service is if I ever call again they will send out the same person again - so they really know your computer. They are very qualified and I was very pleased.
Description of Work: They ran a diagnostic of the computer and said he was surprised it hadn't crashed already. I was surprised as well as it's really old. He's coming back to do the set up of my new computer once I purchase it.
