Ikea is good, the quality of some materials is lacking and others superior. For example, the same salad spinner from Bed Bath and Beyond costs over $20. From Ikea the same salad spinner was $4.00. Excellent quality. The bed I purchased is excellent. Actually a sofa/bed. Matress is firm and construction of the frame is excellent. No complaints. For the price I will continue shopping there.
Description of Work: Bedroom suite. Helped in the selection and load process.

Used their web design service to get started. Their consultant finalised everything and placed the order. We love the kitchen. Because of the amount we spent, our discount was honored for all the other pieces we bought as we expanded the design. Our contractor decided to do the installation. Next time, we'd use an IKEA recommended installer who would have understood some of the finer points of how assembling and installing European cabinetry differs from custom ordered US cabinets.

I needed a loft bed for a guest room. I have a futon already in this room and we needed added sleeping space. The loft bed was excellent quality and was exactly what I needed to add more beds to a room without taking away floor space.
Description of Work: I purchased a loft bed from IKEA. They did not deliver. I was just very pleased with the quality and the products they offer.

I began planning my kitchen in August by visiting Ikea's Dallas location and taking photos. When discussing planning and installation of cabinets, I was referred to and met with a designer for the company that does Ikea's kitchen sales floor installations, as well as customers' home kitchen installations. After my second design was submitted and CAD plans created, I returned to Ikea November 13 and ordered cabinets and appliances, working with both Matthew and Barbara on different occasions. Both were very knowledgeable and professional. They also remembered me each time I returned and were always helpful. Delivery was scheduled for the following Tuesday, between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., the only time they deliver to Fort Worth. The delivery truck actually arrived around 10:30 p.m. with two very nice, very tired, but very organized gentlemen bringing boxes and boxes into the house. They will deliver to one room, or get the product as close to that room as possible if it won't go through the door, which meant my refrigerator and gas range had to sit in the driveway until the cabinets had been installed, because the crates wouldn't go through the kitchen door. The delivery personnel do not uncrate or unpack anything. When the installers came, there was one cabinet that was too wide for the space it was to go in and a couple of items that had arrived broken or were missing, so I returned to Ikea to exchange/purchase them. I expected to have to wait, but was pleasantly surprised when I was simply given a "credit card" to cover what I had returned/exchanged and sent to the Kitchen Department to order the additional pieces that were missing and told that my exchanged items would be waiting for me when I returned. I went to the K.D., ordered the missing pieces and replacement cabinet for the one that was too big, paying for it with my Ikea "credit card." Then I purchased LED lighting to go under the cabinets and went back downstairs, and my "stuff" was ready and waiting on a flatbed. I was given assistance loading everything and was on my way. When the cabinets were installed, complete with drawer and door dampeners, I was REALLY pleased with the way the cabinets looked and how smoothly they functioned. The only piece that wasn't installed at that time was the door for the integrated dishwasher, which, of course couldn't be installed until the countertops were in. The appliances are all made by a major U.S. brand and cost less than that brand does elsewhere. However, there is not a wide variety of appliances and only the slide-in gas stove has a gas oven. All of the wall ovens are electric and most have convection. To get a complete kitchen of cabinets with slide-in stove, French door, bottom freezer fridge and integrated dishwasher for $5700 (20% promotional discount) is great! In spite of the incovenience of driving to Frisco several times, I highly recommend Ikea cabinets. We will have to rent a cargo van to return a couple of over-sized pieces that were not needed. If I were to do it again, I would probably avoid paying a separate company $119/"box" and just have my general contractor install the cabinets to avoid having to coordinate with another contractor, although the cabinet installer had a great idea for installing electrical outlets and lighting on the underside of the cabinets and did a good job. Ikea cabinets are different from American-made cabinets and are fitted a bit differently, which is why they recommend using this particular company, but two or three (pretty strong) people who will follow instructions can probably do a very good job...and Ikea is very good about walking one through questions/problems on the phone.
Description of Work: Assisted with selection of cabinets and necessary parts for installation, appliances, scheduling delivery, referral to design/installation company. Applied the promotional discount in effect at the time I first met with a designer to all Kitchen Department purchases pertaining to kitchen renovation, even after promotion was over. Replaced damaged materials and exchanged or refunded items that didn't fit or weren't needed.

I am planning [it takes a little time for a large remodel] to purchase btwn $10,000 - $15,000 of cabinets, countertops, appliances, sink, and have assembly and install of the cabinets that IKEA can provide a contractor for - since I'll be getting 3x appliances, I figure I will have the 20% discount, approx $3000 off - so I figure my appliances at $2000 and $1000 of cabinets are "free" DON'T rush your remodel - this takes planning and time! DO shop around - my first quotes were $65-75K for what I wanted, now looks like I'll get even better for @ $30K. Thought IKEA cabinets were sub-standard until I shopped around - IKEA 25yr warranty, 5 yr labor warranty, [comes standard with all the bells and whistles, self closing drawers, pull outs, lazy susans etc] Kraftmaid cabinets [the standard brand, avail Home Depot, Lowes etc] only 10 yr warranty and self closing drawers, [lazy susans etc ALL extra $$$] and the cabinets themselves, more $$$. If you want 100% wood, then you will spend more than double, maybe triple. Found out that all cabinets that are not 100% wood have particle board shelves, and may or may not have wood fronts. I chose real "wood" fronts [doors, drawers, etc] at IKEA. DO enjoy the process!!! :)
Description of Work: I too received an IKEA email in March 2011 regarding the 20% off Kitchen Promotions and it was everything that IKEA had stated. You could receive 5-20% off Kitchen cabinets with the percentage escalating by appliance purchase. To get the "full" 20%, you would purchase 3x appliances; they could be an oven, dishwasher, microwave, or a $399 vent hood. 2x appliances, 15% etc. I called on the phone, and spoke to CS IN Kitchen design area, where they are most knowledgeable about kitchens and their own departments' promotions. I also went to store to touchy-feel what I may be purchasing.

I recv'd an email regarding 20% off of remodling kitchen. Guess what, after speaking with one of your rude, unprofessional customer service person, she did not know of an email that was sent out. There were 3 prices that were sent. Save up to 20% on your dream IKEA kitchen! From: "IKEA USA" Tuesday, March 8, 2011 12:42 PM $1699, $1499, $1999. The uninformed Ikea person did not know, did not care. She told me that we had to buy $2500 worth of cabnets to get a discount. I am sending this information to: Angies list and BBB I called again. Yep there is small print - I can't find it yet. You have to spend $2500 in order to get any discount or what ever to get the prices they advertised in my email.
