We don't have much experience with riding lawn mowers, but 3 years ago moved to a home with an acre lot and had to buy one. After 3 years our riding Husqvarna (that we bought used but in good condition) was in sore need of a tune up. We had changed the oil, but the blades were bent and the filters needed changing, etc. While mowing I struck a spade that my child had left in the grass and then the mower wouldn't start again. After calling around, the person that answered the phone at Frisco Lawn and Power was knowledgeable, cordial and so we decided that they were the place for us. We don't own a truck or trailer, so my husband borrowed a truck from a family member and rented a uhaul trailer to get the mower to Frisco Lawn and Power. We tried to start the mower and it did indeed now turn over and we drove it onto the trailer so he could take it in. They took a deposit, called us in a reasonable amount of time with the estimate. My husband gave them the ok to proceed with the tune up. They had to order some parts for it. We didn't hear from them in the time frame they had given us, so we called. The person that answered said the mower was ready for pick up but didn't seem to know any details about what had been done or what the current condition was. After getting it home, my husband mowed and everything worked great! However, the joy of having a freshly tuned up mower was short lived. About 10 days later when I went to mow, the mower wouldn't start. My husband mentioned that it did have a little trouble turning over the second time he started it after taking a break from mowing, so I decided to take the battery in to have it checked. Sure enough, the battery was dead! The men at the auto parts store told me that the battery was 3 years old and that the lawn and power batteries typically only last a year or two at best! I couldn't believe it! So, I paid $48 for a new battery and installed it myself. Mower worked great again. Started up quickly and easily. Now 2 weeks later and I am ready to mow again tonight. I am riding the mower around and start to feel a wobbling feeling as I go along. Suddenly the left front tire comes unattached to the axle! Scared me to death. I am definitely calling them tomorrow to try and get a refund and will update my review afterwards.
Description of Work: "Tuned Up" our riding lawn mower. Changed blades, fliters, oil, etc.

Dropped it off 3/31 - apparently at/near the height of their seasonal glut - paid for 30-min. of diagnosis labor, and was warned it would take about 3 weeks. About 3 weeks later, they had identified a number of definite issues and a number of possible issues. Some of the possible issues pushed the estimate into the not-worth-it range, so I asked them to spend 30 more minutes confirming or eliminating some the possible issues. In addition to the standard tune-up stuff, they ended up replacing control cables I had expected, the starter pull rope, and the carburetor. Since getting it back 5/17, it starts on the first pull!
Description of Work: Diagnosed and repaired the years-old Husqvarna walk/push mower. Background: I purchased the mower from its previous owner 4 years ago, have used it sporadically, and have done "basic" maintenance (e.g., changed oil, plug, & filter) myself.

When they called w/the estimate, they suggested it needed a new carburetor - they thought it was running roughly and re-building the carburetor didn't seem to help. I opted for the 'basic' tune-up. When I arrived to pick it up, I was surprised that I owed $58 above the deposit. Looking closely at the invoice, I asked why it needed a new fuel tank and 2 new filters. After conferring w/a technician for a few minutes, the clerk figured out those items should be on someone else's invoice, reducing mine to the $75 - coverable by the deposit - range. I sat for a few more minutes - eventually told the tech was airing up the tires (um...I'd have thought they would have done that first to make it easier to move!). Then I waited for a few minutes as 2 or 3 of them struggled to start it...which it did after I mentioned the shut-off valve at the base of the fuel tank. They also told me I need to fiddle w/the choke to make it run smoothly. I haven't started it myself yet.
Description of Work: I bought a used chipper/shredder from a neighbor. He warned me I had to "play with" the choke to keep it running. Though he had owned it for a few years, had used it only a few times and didn't remember changing the oil. It started and ran fine for me; I purchased some filters and such to do the basic maintenance myself...but decided to call the professionals when I couldn't remove the drain plug. Its tires were flat, too. I dropped it off and paid a $75 deposit 6/13; they told me it would be a couple of weeks; they called back w/ the diagnosis & options 6/27; I picked it up 6/28.
