ELITE REMODELING

My wife and I used Elite Kitchen and Bath remodeling for a major remodel of our master bathroom. Elite has an office located in Frisco. We have a large master bath. The remodel involved completely gutting the bathroom, relocating the shower, eliminating the bath tub, and installing all new tile and cabinetry. Here are detail positives and negatives from our experience. The remodel in the end is beautiful and the workmanship is excellent. However due to issues we encountered relating to schedule slips and Elites business practices, I would not use them again and I cannot recommend them. Below are positives and negatives from our experience. Positives: Elite is an established company. They use direct employees or select subcontractors that they use on all their jobs. You will not have random subcontractors showing up with no clue as to what they are supposed to do. There was a dedicated project manager for the job who was on site daily. In our case it was Mark who was fantastic to work with. Elite also provides a designer (Madison in our case) to help with the design and choice of materials and colors. Madison who is also fantastic. Detail drawings of the bathroom are generated and are on site for anyone working to reference. However, there was an error in our drawings that resulted in a significant issue (see below). We are very pleased with the design and workmanship of the completed bathroom. Negatives: - Costs associated with changes. Elite does not provide details to back up costs associated with changes, i.e. material and labor estimates. It was apparent to me that significant overhead and markup is added to the actual material and labor cost. This business practice did not sit well with me, given Elite claims to be transparent with their customers. A customer does not have the option of getting competitive bids for changes and I believe a customer should know exactly what they are being charged. - Schedule. Mark the project manager did everything he could to finish the job in a timely manner. However his hands were tied because the primary two man crew only worked 4 - 5 hours per day. These work hours continued even as the schedule for completing the tile was slipping from 4/29 to 5/10. I complained to the operations manager about this but nothing changed. It appeared to me that Mark the project manager was the only person at Elite who cared about the schedule. - Accountability. In addition to the schedule, Elite management also did not assume any accountability for an error they made in the drawings for the remodel. The error was in the dimension for an existing window, which resulted in a cabinet not not matching up properly to the window sill. Elite proposed a "work around", but it was unacceptable to us because it would have looked like a work around. I offered to pay for most of the cost to install a smaller window. I simply wanted Elite to frame a new window sill. Elite's response was to send a change order for $960 to do this work. And of course there was no material or labor detail in the quote. I rejected the change order and with one persons help did the work myself. It took about $50 in materials and about 4 hours work on a Saturday morning. Elite took zero accountability for their error. - Inspections. Shortly after the project began it was mentioned that the job was not going to be inspected by the city. In reviewing the contract I did not see any mention of inspections but I was sure it was stated prior to contract signing, that inspections would be included. However, I did find on Elites website it states they take care of all required inspections. I raised this issue with Elite and they agreed to have the job inspected by the city. But why would Elite have not planned to have the job inspected? Its a requirement from the city. This is another questionable busy practice by Elite. My advice: Make sure inspections are written into the contract. And prior to signing the contract, make notes of any promises or agreements and make sure they too are included in the contract. I also recommend getting copies of ALL preliminary estimates and drawings that will likely be generated prior to the final design and cost estimate. I did not, and when I wanted to refer back to a prior estimate Elite "could not find it".

Elite Glass was price competitive, provided a quality product and did a professional job. They were punctual and kept in phone contact throughout the estimate, ordering and installation process. One way to learn about the integrity of a company is how they react when something doesn't go right. When Elite came to install the shower glass they discovered their supplier had cut one section too small. (They showed me the measurements they submitted to the supplier and they were all correct.) They immediately ordered the correct piece and told me it would take about a week for it to arrive. In less than a week they informed me the piece was in and made an appt. to finish the install the next morning. They arrived on time, finished the job and even did and additional small caulking job for me at no additional cost. I give a big double thumbs up to Elite Glass for their competitive prices, quality product and most of all for their professionalism.

They were good. They were very very prompt and on time at the job. I do not have anything bad to say about them.

Went well from start to finish. They were very helpful in keeping the costs down. The sales and design people were easy to work with, had great ideas, and were very helpful. The project manager was excellent, as were his workmen. The cleanup at the end of the job was far more than we expected. Very pleased with the results.

We used another contractor with a lower bid.

They did an excellent job! Their work is of good quality.

The overall offering of services was very good. They had a full staff of designers that proved very helpful to us during the project.

They came over, took measurements, and took photos and after a week I went to their office and I got a very nice, detailed quote. The problem that I had was basically they gave allowances to the tiles and admitted to them what I was looking for. Additionally, it was a very high quote, when I looked at the total price, it was out of our budget.

Since my experience with my master bath 2 years ago was so good I didn't hesitate to use Elite when I wanted to do my second bath. Elite was very professional from the beginning, they listened to what I wanted but also offered very helpful suggestions when needed. Their designer Gabrielle did a great job of looking for what I wanted to fit within my budget and I loved the final selections. Their project management was top notch and both John and the PM Steve kept in contact throughout the project and kept me informed of any issues even going so far as to send me pictures of progress while I was out of town. Throughout the job they kept the site and garage extremely clean and after completion did a thorough cleaning of the rooms and surrounding areas. Elite Remodeling is definitely not the cheapest remodeler out there but the quality of their work is top notch. Both times I have used them there were a few minor issues but they were quickly addressed without any added expense or inconvenience to me. Elite stands behind their work and checks back to make sure there are no problems up to 2 years after the job. I had a minor issue with my shower door from my 2 year old Master Bath redo and John sent someone there to fix it the very next day after I reported the issue. Overall I would recommend them to anyone who wants to have good quality and professional work done and I will definitely call them again if I have another remodel in the future.

Overall, our latest project was our guest bathroom, and it has gone very smoothly. It was a smaller project, but Elite still gave us the same attention as though it was a bigger job. Misty, Elite's designer, helped me with the vanity and other selections. It was nice to have another opinion, and she was so nice! Once the date was set for the demolition, the crew came in and did a great job with little mess. It was also nice to be able to communicate with them in English.. Once the bathroom was stripped of the old, it was nice to see how all the new selections started transforming the new guest bathroom. We will continue to use Elite Remodeling for any of our future needs because we trust that it will be done right, even if we have to pay a little more. In the big scheme of things, it is worth it!

They were a good company. They were very good with upfront planning. They were pretty expensive. They were very responsive. We are going to use them again in the next six months to a year to do a master bath.

I was very impressed with Elite. I had chosen them primarily because we didn't know what we wanted done and they advertised a modeling software to help design. Their sales lady helped us design a new floorplan cutting down on wasted, empty floorspace, straightening walls to allow more closet space, and moving things around. Our first two floorplans looked OK, but they were patient enough to work with us until we got a plan we just loved. It moved our tub and eliminated a makeup station, but expanded our closet about 50% and doubled our shower size. Then we signed and started construction. The quality level of construction was extremely good. There were very few things we saw lacking and Elite fixed those as soon as we pointed them out without any arguing. When it was done, all construction was to our complete satisfaction and beyond my expectations. In particular, the shower tile work was very good. They also did a nice job of texturing and painting the walls. I'm very picky and this is the first painting job that I haven't personally touched up. Elite also helped us with a decorator to pick out tile colors and patterns and sink / plumbing fixtures to match. She was helpful and knowledgable. We ended up with colors we still love a year later. There are only two areas Elite could have improved on. 1st, their construction workers don't clean up very well every day. They do a great job of clean up when they are all done, but in the day to day work, they left a mess on the floor at the back door where we go in and out. The other area they could have improved was in plumbing knowledge. Our pipes knocked when Elite was done. Their plumber didn't know what to do so I called another plumber who fixed it easily by replacing some cartridges. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the design help and very high level of quality construction. I also like their warranty. We did see some items that needed rework with some cracks appearing after everything setteled in. Elite came out promptly and fixed those and they still look good now a year later. I will pick Elite again with any further remodeling.

They were all right. They have been prompt.

Everyone at Elite is overwhelmingly friendly, professional, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable; however, their remodeling costs are substantially higher than their equivalent competitors! They do bring a degree of value and structure to their jobs, including a showroom and beautifully furnished offices; and if you need a completely no hassle, and with the least amount of your time involvement then Elite is for you. But, if you do not mind investing a bit of your time, you can save at least 35-40% with other contractors.

After finally getting the insurance company's final scope of the job. I wanted bids from 3 contractors so I could have an apple to apple comparison of my work to start with. I wanted a bid based on the scope of the job and $ I had from the insurance company to start with. Then I was going to do additional work to totally remodel the master Bath. Then we are going to be remodeling our entire house. I went to Elites office, did not ask them to come out, they spent no more than 5 minutes with me and said no problem. I also said that I was starting here and then would be adding to the scope of the work. I would also be remodeling the rest of our house. I do give them credit for the quick response of we don't want you for a customer though. Here is the email I received (below in bold) the same day after dropping off the entire scope of work to their office.....9-10 pages of the work, drawings of the job, measurements of the job, everything they did not have to do. I gave them the entire scope, just not the $ figures from the insurance company as that is really none of their business. Anyway here is the email reply I got back. They basically did not have to do much to give me a bid. With that being said. I got bids from two other companies at no charge the same day, that I gave this to them. In fact the other two I just emailed to them and did not even go in person like I did from Elite. So it sounds like to me if you want to over pay and pay them up front they will think about if they want to work with you. Hello Ed, It was very nice meeting with you today in our showroom. Unfortunately we do not prepare bids for insurance claims because our price point is on average 25% or more higher than what the allowances on most claims are thus we never receive any business from creating these bids and they take a lot of time to prepare and require time from our construction management and tradesmen. Because of the time involved we can prepare the bid for a fee of $350. Just let me know if you would like to go ahead with this option and thank you for your interest in Elite Remodeling. This is not an insurance Job, I already have been paid out by the Insurance company and have the money. As I stated, I am adding to that to remodel the master bath and paying any above and beyond what the insurance company is paying if needed. I just provided the scope of work to make it easy to get a starting price then do my add on's. I made that clear when I dropped off the scope of work.

The concept of doing a whole house remodel was daunting. However from start to finish, the professionalism and attention to detail that the Elite team demonstrated was extraordinary. They were able to finish ahead of schedule, within our budget and with a quality of workmanship that exceeded our expectations. The project management and oversight coordination skills of the project manager kept the project running smoothly. There were immediate courteous responses to all questions. What impressed us the most was the high level of integrity demonstrated from the owner of the company to the project manager all the way to each of the workers on the job. They stood behind their commitments and if the qualityof thier work. We have already recommended this company to several of our friends and will continue to do so. We would definitley use them again!

We started this project with excitement that we would transform our 15 year old master bath into an updated bath that we could be proud of. We got the updated bath but the process was a nightmare. The original design was not properly drawn and spec’ed causing construction problems down the line. The supervision of the job was totally inadequate and the crews were doing inferior work. As a result many tiles had to be replaced; incorrect grout had to be totally removed and replaced; a compromised resurfacing of the cabinets since his workers could not create the promised paint finish; and other various problems along the way. We went through several sets of crews as a result of their performances. This was supposed to take about three months but instead took seven months and a year later spent another month redoing some of the shower to fix the improper workmanship. I know this job had to cost a lot of any profit he had figured into the job. It left us with a bad memory of getting our updated bath which is not the experience I desire when I contract someone else to do work for me. Contrary to his ads, we do not “love our bath”. We did the best we could to overcome their inferior workmanship and will live with it knowing it could have been done properly if they had managed the project better.

They finished one day after their original estimated completion date but some of the dates in between varied. The project manager was very professional and knowledgeable. I hope to use them in the future to do the master bath. The owner and project manager seemed to know and understand the houses built in the area and were able to set our expectations on problems that could be encountered. We went $400 over the original estimate due to an electrical issue but it was resolved very quickly and Elite got a second opinion on resolution. Overall I would give them an A-.

The job was forecast to take about 3 months but took slightly over 4 months (due in part to custom cabinet fabrication). There were some changes that came up during construction and Elite was cooperative in making them happen. The construction supervisor was involved and was easy to work with. The work crew and the foreman were Hispanic and some of the crew could not speak English, but the foreman was fluent so this did not present any significant problems. We had two problems with the shower installation: 1) The tile kept cracking when the hinge for the heavy glass door was screwed in and 2) The shower drain was too steep. Elite remedied both to our satisfaction. The contractors Elite used for plumbing, electrical, granite, and cabinetry were professional and competent. My spouse and I did some of the minor work to reduce cost (wall painting, closet door installation). We purchased all plumbing fixtures, toilet, lights mirrors & 2 sets of sliding mirrored closet doors.

4-MONTH PROCESS. WORKED DIRECTLY WITH PROJECT MANAGER, A CABINET MAKER. VERY PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP AND VERY COOPERATIVE WORKERS. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH KEVIN HINTON. HE WAS IN CHARGED OF THE MOLD REMOVAL AND THE REBUILDING OF OUR HOUSE.
