Abel Appliance Repair

My overall experience is nothing but a big A+, Larry has fixed my refrigerator, garbage disposal and now my washer. Always superior service! He answers his own calls and you are not talking to another country or a big box store operator, Larry with Abel Appliance will only be appliance person working for me.

The experience was fine overall. He gave us a good hint on how to reduce the fabric softener buildup in our washing machine. I’m happy with his services!

When I called, I was looking to see if he could fix the issue with my appliance. He said my brand of refridgerator was a piece of junk. Then he stated he was eating lunch and wanted to know if he could call back. My refridgerator is in the top 8 of consumer reports. I felt I was not treated well and he never called back. Thankfully I found someone else who was nicer to fix my problem.

The experience went very well overall! Larry was very professional, got the job done quickly and I trusted him. I’d use his services again.

The experience was good overall. Actually, the work was never done, but he explained to me why it wasn’t necessary and how to fix the problem without him having to fix anything. I felt he was very honest and I’d definitely call him again!

The technician told us that it would cost us more to fix it than it would be to just purchase a new dryer. I appreciated his honesty!

Larry called to confirm he was on his way and arrived on time in an immaculate service vehicle. His demeanor was pleasant and professional, even to the point that he was dressed in clean and ironed clothes. He quickly diagnosed the problem and replaced the electronic board with a new one he had in his truck. I was relieved that the problem was not the compressor, which would have been a very costly and complicated repair. I am happy to have found such a reliable and knowledgeable repairman, and one who has the curiosity to attend workshops to keep up with the advancements in the appliance industry.

We called Abel Appliance Repair. Larry (the owner) promptly returned our call, and arranged to come out the same day to repair the refrigerator. After troubleshooting the problem, Larry recommended we purchase a new unit rather than repair it. I truly appreciated his honesty, as he could have easily temporarily fixed the problem and charged more money to do so. We will use him again when we have other appliance repair needs!

We called Larry when we came in this morning and he was able to fit us in right after lunch. He arrived around 1:45 and had diagnosed and repaired the problem within half an hour. The refrigerator is humming along happily again. Larry was very pleasant and efficient and I would definitely call him again for necessary service in our office or in my home.

It went really well. I had used them before. It was an emergency call, 5am. There was water everywhere. He was very responsive and friendly. I would definitely use them again.

We had a couple problems with our refrigerator ice maker and water dispenser. He replaced a valve, a diode, and the ice maker motor. The ice maker motor was salvaged from some parts he had on hand, so he charged me only $50 instead of what it costs for a new motor $150. I liked that he was skilled enough to do that (it looked complicated and I am an electrical engineer) and that he tried to save me money. While he was running the ice down the garbage disposal to show me how to clean it, suddenly water started spewing from a crack in the disposal. I'm glad he was there when it happened. Anyway, he replaced the disposal. I asked him to check on the dishwasher door springs and the washing machine (it kept trying to fill nonstop). He fixed the dishwasher for free and showed me the problem with the way the hose was connected on the washer, and also fixed that for free. I think he is a very fair, honest, and capable guy.

Larry, came to look at the problem, and then I explained the symptoms. Larry, explained each step to find the problem and sure enough he did! He made sure my husband I am understood the problem, because it may occur again ( characteristic of this brand of refrigerator) and he explained in terms we could understand...he was extremely patient. He gave us an option of him fixing the problem or to save the expense he would show us how to fix it. Well, we fixed the problem...thank you to Larry, he gave us the confidence to do so. Bravo! Larry was very professional and yes, I would highly recommend him.

Very, very knowledgable. Definitely an expert in appliances. We also talked about my dishwasher which had not been cleaning the dishes very well and he gave me some tips. All is good now. Abel Appliance Repair will be my "go to" vendor for appliance repairs. Very happy with the service.

Excellent. He had the part on the truck and it took about 30 minutes to get my refrigerator running again. Larry even offered to clean up the dust bunnies under the thing!

They did a lot of work. They replaced some parts on dryer and cleaned up the entire vent system in the house. They did a great job and I was very happy with them. They were on time. They called ahead. They had the parts with them. It was a good deal. It usually never happens with somebody who have the parts. They called and took the serial numbers and bought them. They were top notch. They cleaned up after the work. They were nice and polite. There were no surprises on the bill.

Called in for service on our LG washing machine that was not working. After a few callbacks with error codes and model numbers, they came out the same day and had it fixed in a few minutes.

Great! efficient, punctual, told me in detail what he was doing.

It was perfect. He called in the morning to confirm a time, arrived on time, was incredibly professional and courteous, did the job in a reasonable amount of time, and had my washing machine working again with no concerns.

Larry answered the phone himself and was very friendly and helpful from the start. It was late morning when I called and worried I wouldn't be able to find someone who could come the same day or the next day, but he offered to try to stop by in the evening. He then called back shortly afterward to say he was in my neighborhood and could stop by then. My friend who was staying at my house says Abel was extremely professional when he came in and went right to work to assess the problem. He discovered quickly that it was the compressor, and gave me my options before he went ahead with the repair. Fortunately the replacement part worked and I have had no problems. I am extremely grateful for the fact that he could assist me on such short notice, and his helpfulness and professionalism is also appreciated. He even sent a card thanking me for my business. I will definitely call him again for repairs, and recommend him to others.

Overall, we had a good experience. They didn’t actually perform the work, however they did provide great advice as to how we could fix the issue ourselves.

He's very busy. Between my schedule and his, we settled on an appointment time a few days out. He was supposed to show up between 2 and 4. Around 4 I called to see if he was coming and he said he was running late. I think he may have arrived around 5:00 which woulld not have been my choice of a time to begin a repair such as this. He said he had 2 or 3 repairs to make after mine. Larry told me he hates working on dishwashers and thinks they are "stupid". He told me of finding nasty things in the bottom of them and apparently doesn't use one himself. He said he planned to quit working on them altogether and unfortunately had not been able to send someone else to my house on that day. He prefers refrigerator repairs. A plastic part which ties into the springs that raise the door of the dishwasher had broken. He explained to me what an unreliable system this was. I asked him if I should replace the part on the other side of the door while he was there. It was still working but I wondered if the plastic was getting brittle or the rope could be wearing out. For some reason which I can't understand, he refused to advise me on the matter. He was willing to share his political leanings with me (which I wasn't interested in) but was unwilling to provide professional advice based upon his experience. This is apparently a very common repair. He even carried the replacement parts for it on his truck. So it seems to me he would have been well-qualiified to offer a recommendation. Since he wouldn't advise me, I had to try to figure it out for myself and decided to go ahead and replace the other side at the same time. I don't think he was thrilled about my decision and he said "I guess I'm going to be here another 20 minutes". As stated earlier, he still had 2 or 3 calls to make that evening. His work seemed ok, but due to his attitude, next time I will try someone else. Honestly, I think part of the problem was that the guy is over-worked and tired. UPDATE: I have since learned (from another appliance repairman) that these parts which I had replaced by him are sold in a PACKAGE OF TWO. They are intended to be replaced two at a time by the manufacturer and in fact the replacement parts are improved versions of the initial part. Under no circumstance should only one side be replaced since the largest part of the job is pulling the dishwasher out of the cabinet. This explains why Larry brought the part in from his truck with no packaging whatsoever. He intended to cut corners on my job and to use the other part in the package which he left in his truck on someone else's job. Additionally, I eventually realized that he had not properly re-installed the dishwasher in it's cabinet. The top right corner is now hitting on the adjoining cabinets and I am going to have to pay someone else to realign it for me. He claims to "give good honest work". I disagree. The manufacturer provides two of these parts and intends that they will be both be replaced at the same time. Opening the package in his truck and only bringing one of the parts into my house is NOT HONEST. Attempting to do HALF the job is not the kind of repair I expect. And regarding Larry's comment that I was down on the floor, it was not my desire to crawl on the floor and try to determine whether both sides should be replaced. That's what I hired you to do. That happened because you REFUSED to advise me on the matter and I had to try to look at it and figure it out for myself. All the while you knew the manufacturer intended for both sides to be replaced and had provided parts for that in the same package. This repair was not handled honestly or conscienciously.

Larry quickly ascertained what the problem was that was causing the ice machine to work extremely hard and on regular intervals just stop making ice. He quickly diagnosised that the water reservoir was not filling properly which was causing a malfunction. He checked the plumbing and correctly figured out the valve was not functioning properly. He went out to his truck and located the part (I did not have to wait for it to be ordered!) and fixed the problem asap. Additionally, he took the time to instruct me on how to further clean the machine and take care of the coils. He was professional, prompt and knew his stuff! In addition to all of this he was clearly honest and extremely reasonable- I was thrilled with the cost of repair! What a bargain! I would use his services again and I would recommend him to all. He is professional, courteous, knowledgeable and is helpful. If you have a need for appliance repair this is the company to use!

10/15/2011 UPDATE: Received a call back from Larry with many apologies and even a hand-written apology letter (you don't see that any more). He offered to wave his labor fee, but I had already had the oven repaired by another company. Larry even offered to wave the labor fee for any future needs. So, I am upgrading my report from a F to a B and will certainly give him another chance in the future. Thanks Larry. Called Larry on 10/5/11 to describe the issue and schedule service. I had done some research and the codes the oven was giving were typically a problem with the controller board. Larry told me that it could be a sensor issue also and that he would do some research and call me back. Today is 10/10/11 and I have received no call or update. So, back to Angie's List I go to find someone else to repair my GE oven.
