We have used Thompson's Cooling and Heating for 15 years now. 12 years ago they repaired my furnace. When the cost of the parts came in lower than he thought, they gave me the lower price. It's been working great ever since. 2 years ago our air conditioner needed replacing and they gave me a great price for a quality unit. They are always prompt and professional. I am relocating 5 hours away now and selling my house. I called them to check everything out right before the inspector came to look at my house. They were here in a flash. I just hope I can find a provider with the same service and ethics as Thompson's in my new location.

He arrived on time and was very professional and courteous. He was very knowledgeable, he explained what he was doing, and I never felt like he was trying to "upsell" me into buying more than I needed. I am very happy with Thompson's and I will not hesitate to call them again and recommend them to anyone who needs heating/air conditioning service.
Description of Work: He diagnosed my air conditioning problem and fixed it right away. My A/C unit needed a new fan motor and he had one with him in his truck and was able to replace it immediately and quickly.

During the second visit they advised that in fact our compresser was shot and we needed a new one. We asked for the price on that and the price on a complete new system. This is all occurring with it 100 plus degrees outside. Then we got a competitive bid with another Company. The other Company had a higher Consumer Reports rated system and it was 3,000 cheaper. Since they missed on our first repair we decided to go with the other Company.
Description of Work: We contacted Thompson's thinking that our system was out of freon and we might have a leak. They added freon and said there was no leak. Then within the hour it was not working again and we had to call them back.

Our company has been attempting to reconcile this review with Angie's List to no avail for the last two months. Their response is to post the facts as our response. Our phone calls are logged and recorded, showing customer called us Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 16.17 pm, for the very first and only time. We arrived for the first and only time at their home on Monday June 4, 2012 at approx.10 am. We repaired for free a loose duct, an additional part, and burnt wiring. We did not add Freon. We have written proof with customer's signature showing that the unit was working and he refused a bid for a new system. We did not give customer any numbers on a new bid as the invoices states he refused any bid. The ambient temperature that day reached 93 degrees at 5pm. We did not receive another phone call to come out at any time from this customer if and when the unit stopped functioning properly. We have written documentation showing the following facts and have tried to give the best service possible to all our customers. Angie's List has contacted the persons who wrote this review and they cannot provide any documentation showing the review is correct. The customers state we are the company who came out on Friday, June 1, 2012 and added Freon to their unit and then came out a second time that day. We also do not understand why they would say YES to using our services again if we provided poor service resulting in this review. We understand during extreme times of stress people can make misidentifications of companies due to the length of time between the occurrence and posting a review. We hope that the customers are doing well with the company who has replaced their 25 year old HVAC unit and realize that we are not the company who did not put Freon in unit June 1, 2012 nor come back for a second time to their home on the same day. Our phone records and company records have been thoroughly searched to ensure that we did in fact have first contact on June 3, 2012. Angie's List policy is to allow reviews to remain unless they are proven to be errors or place by another company. Our company has been contacted by clients who state this review has caused them to choose another company. We sincerely hope and pray that customers would call us as soon as possible to resolve any problems as we strive to provide them quality services and products. We have made contact with the Better Business Bureau in Indianapolis, Indiana to help us resolve this issue.

The work went excellent. They started at eight and were done by 4:30 in the afternoon. Then cleaned up any mess and you couldn't tell they had been there. But now we are extremely comfortable.
Description of Work: This was the second system Thompson's has installed in my home. The first one was ten years ago. We were very happy with the first one but we needed to upgrade the system due to changes made in our home like new windows, door, and insulation in the attic. Mr. Thompson came out and measured my home as I watched. He measured each room, the direction it faced and all the details needed to properly size the new system to our upgraded home. I was pleased with the way he explained everything to me. On the install day his crew layed down plastic on our floors to protect the carpet and throw rugs underneath their tool bags. My wife said this was the quietest system we've ever owned and that she is sleeping much better now. At our age, we probably won't ever need another system. But if we do Thompson's will be the ones we prefer. I believe we couldn't have done better. As a matter of fact I recommended Thompson's to my neighbor across the street. But he went with someone cheaper. But the cheaper guy wound up stealing some of my neighbor's tools the guy borrowed because he did not have enough of his own tools. It just goes to show you get what you pay for. All in all I feel we made a good decision selecting Thompson's Cooling and Heating - both times.

called when I heard rattling in attack ( before we changed filter and after we changed filter!)
Description of Work: didn't realize I would be charged since we have a Silver Contract...and they didn't do a whole lot- but very polite and thourough- we had heard some rattling and didn't know if it was the unit or something else- turned out the vent was bent!!!! and they fixed that. I have been happy with their work so far. They installed whole system in 2009.

The owner of the company also performed the majority of the install. He was very nice and professional in dealing with my wife every day.The work took about four days, due to the large amount of work involved. Everything looked great and worked fine. An exceptional note was how short a period of time it was between the old system turning off and the new system starting up. Thompson also gave a nice discount for installing an electrostatic filter unit that is a great feature to have. I am an industrial electrician, so I know when such work as this has been done properly, and it has.
Description of Work: Contractor installed completely new a/c system, relocated outside unit electrical service, installed new ductwork, and additional ductwork, also removed old system entirely.

The installation went fairly well and seemed professional until the owner/lead installer of the company could not resolve a lower than normal heating problem on the downstairs heat pump and a loud blower vibration noise in the downstairs air handler. Also, the downstairs heat pump would go into defrost mode too often at too high of an outside temperature. Through the summer I was averaging an electric bill 10% higher for comparable same average monthly temperatures. I complained about this. The owner came back in Sept. twice to try to resolve the problems but could not, perhaps because of his lack of experience in diagnosing vibration and how to resolve heating problems on a heat pump. He then sent his assistant out two more times to try to resolve the troubles, to no avail. I started asking in January, that he talk to the Manufacturer's Tech Support to see if they could suggest something. He was not very reponsive to this but by Feb or March he had talked to them due to my reminder messages. They suggested some things to do and in March after my constant requests, he sent his assistant out 2 more times by himself to try to resolve these items with their suggestions--the vibration, low heat output, constant defrost operation, and a new problem where the downstairs heat pump would buzz and not kick on. A hard start kit was added and solved the buzzing heat pump problem but the other problems were not resolved. About this time he started getting busy with other work and became very defensive about trying resolve the issues. Finally, he talked to the manufacturer again and they sent a technical representative out in late March. The manufactuer representative easily diagnosed the troubles and ordered a repair kit ( smaller blower and smaller fan) for the for the air handler, a 2nd replacement defrost board for the heat pump, and ordered that more freon be put in the system which he thought was too low (this increased my heat output downstairs by 4 degrees). He also ordered a different hard start kit for the heat pump. So after the second time the manufactuer rep was here and Thompson's assistant installed the parts and after he made the recommended changes my problems were all gone. Thanks to the manufacturer! As far a Thompson's goes I really got tired of the excuses made by them which in the end showed as invalid and not true. They seem to need improvement in listening to their customer and better diagnosis skills when non-standard installation problems arise.

We were saddened we were not able to please this member. A City Permit was pulled and the ensuant inspection passed completely after the work was performed. Later on the member had a vibration issue with one unit. And after two attempts to alleviate the situation, we contacted the maufacturer's representative and the situation was resolved. It was somewhat challenging to schedule because the member told us he was experiencing an incredibly difficult and stressful time at his job and we could only come out when he was off every other Friday. Another small issue was resolved the next year. We really liked the member. He is a nice gentleman. We are grateful to have earned his business but sad he is unhappy with us. We will continue to train regularly with both the technical aspects of our industry along with improving customer satisfaction.
