Steve is a very nice guy and does good work and I would recommend him to do your fence .......But if you decide to uses him make sure that you get a contract from him and in that contract he will hire a Sprinkler System Company in case he bust a PVC Pipe when he is digging the holes for the fence post........ When he was digging the post holes he busted our sprinkler pipes and he has tried 3 times now to fix them......He is a good fence man but he just really does not know how to repair PVC Pipes....... I am tired of him trying so I am going to hire Kelly Sprinkler to fix the pipes and it is going to cost me around $150.00 dollars to have them come out.....I will send Steve the bill in hopes he will reimburse me...... UPDATE: 7/2/14. Steve agreed to pay half of the bill to fix the sprinkler.

Response from Texxan Construction
I was contracted to install a 4' tall iron fence by [member name removed], he signed off on the layout with neither of us knowing where the sprinkler pipes were. All standard fence contracts exclude ALL responsibility for damage to underground pipes, cables, wiring etc. installed by owner. I didn't agree to repair any damage but wanted a good review so I fixed it, AT NO CHARGE, 3 months later he called and said there's a leak. I dug it up and had him turn it on the other parallel pipe had a crack, I repaired it had him turn it on and NO leaks, AT NO CHARGE. I had provided him a written estimate with PRICING on both 4' and 5' iron but inadvertently listed as 5' and 6' iron as I was completing the job he pointed this out. I told him I could provide other estimates showing the pricing he said if I didn't discount off the estimate there wouldn't be a favorable review, I wanted this so I discounted for my oversight. No favorable review was ever posted, just "sour grapes" 10 days ago. Texas has been in a prolonged drought, ground shifts, pipes move especially on ground that has been disturbed. I don't know where the new leak is but there was NO garauntee on repairs I wasn"t obligated to do. I strive to satisfy all customers it wasn't possible this time

I had the fence replaced on 2 sides around the backyard and on each side of the house. I had a double gate put in on one side of the house. The work was excellent. He was very particular about using good straight pieces of wood. He build the fence (not panels) out of cedar. He made sure the fence was following the property line which was a little different than the fence he removed. The owner did the work himself with the help of one other man.

I feel I got an excellent job, the way I wanted it and in a timely manner. Steve's attention to the small details made the whole experience great. His years of doing this work show in those details. Instead of ending one section of the fence with a short 3 foot section in the corner he put a full panel from the corner out and the small 3 foot section in between two 8 foot sections (looks like a door or gate could go there in the future). He did not try using the old holes, he dug all new ones. He did not leave and let his helpers do the job, he was there, being sure the job was done to his standards. As he said, it's his name on the company and he won't accept shoddy work, even from his son (one of the helpers).
Description of Work: I contacted four fence companies to get bids on installing 100 feet of pre-assembled dog ear #2 spruce panels (2 by phone & 2 in person). The two I phoned only build on sight with ceder (no pre-assembled panels). The other two would do either, build on sight or install pre-assembled panels. Texxan's owner, Steve Thomas, was on time for his appointment and made me feel very comfortable when I talked about my needs and concerns. After getting feedback from him on what would be involved in putting the fence up I decided he would get the job. His price was fair and below all of the other bids (all well know fence companies in the area). They started the job while I was at work and by the afternoon of day one the old fence was down and stacked up for them to haul off. He installed a temporary cyclone fence to keep my dog in my yard and other dogs out. He was very careful not to hit any of my sprinkler lines and he added a gate so I could have access to the back of the yard where the fence was being replaced. He worked with his 2 other workers on installing the fence (no sub-contracted crew). The fence went up in 3 days. After it was up, Steve went through each panel and pulled off any picket that was warped, curling or broken and replaced them with new, straight, unbroken pickets. The fence was even, straight and off the ground to avoid wood rot in the future. He and his crew cleaned up completely and made the yard look as if they had never been there. After 1 year only 1 picket of the 100 feet I replaced has curled out and will need to be replaced in the future. I have not damaged the pickets with my weed-eater and the fence still looks great. Steve guarantees his labor on the fence for life (materials are not guaranteed). My neighbor replaced 136 feet of fence with one made on sight of ceder about 1 year before. They used another well known fence company (one of the ones I called). While I had Steve over recently giving me a bid on an ornamental fence project we both noted the condition of the neighbors fence after 2 years. Pickets were splitting, had a lot of knots in them, some pickets were only nailed at the top (swung out from the bottom), several of the stringers had only one bolt holding them to the metal pole bracket and some of the metal poles had already started leaning in and shifting (they pulled the old wooden posts out and reused the holes for the new metal poles without taking out all the old concrete). I highly recommend Texxan Fence & Construction for their punctuality, professionalism and honesty. I'll be letting you know how the other fence project goes very soon. Thank you very much Steve for the great job and I look forward to working with you again in the near future.
