They come to your house to give estimates and pick up and deliver furniture. They are very professional and courteous. The work was above and beyond what I expected. Beautiful, quality work. A fair price for a lot of reconstructive as well as refinishing work.
Description of Work: Refinished a wood dining room table with two leaves and refinished and recanted the matching 6 chairs. Also refinished an wood inlay coffee table. All of the pieces were in terrible shape and came out stunning!

very well. Provided a price initially, gave an estimate of time to completion, and phoned when work was complete. Had me inspect the finished work to assure I was satisfied. Delivered in a timely fashion. Was surprised at the price of have no basis for comparison, so it may very well be a fair price.

Old oak rocker with cane back, missing seat. They use someone for caning, so technically did not do the work themselves, but I worked solely through them. I have no basis for comparison, so not sure if price competitive, but probably is. Unusual caning; they got it done fast (Christmas gift with short notice), and the seat was a perfect match for the back. My wife (her family chair) was delighted with the result.

They sounded knowledgeable but I chose a different vendor based on location and lower price.
Description of Work: I submitted pictures of a rocker that needed re-caning on the back and seat. They were able to give me an estimate for the work by email.

I thought that the price was a little state but then refinishing antiques is expensive. All in all, they were very fine. They were very good. They were responsible. They were not quick but in this case you would not want them to do it quickly. They were excellent. I think they did a very good job. On the price, I would hate to really be an expert on that but it was a little state but I have looked at other prices and they all are, I think. He is comparative to the others.
Description of Work: I have used Smith's Antiques and Refinishing for repair and refinish of an antique pedestal table three years ago. I had a truck go through my back door and so it got caught. He put it back and refinished it beautifully. I was satisfied. It was an insurance claim so I am not really sure about the price but it was around twelve hundred dollars.

I called them to see if they could do the work. They said to bring it in for them to see. I left it and they called me with a price quote and then called me when the work was complete for me to come pick it up.

Smith's was on-time, gave a free estimate of the work (and came to the house to give the estimate); they were prompt in completing the work; it only took about 3 to 4 weeks for both pieces, and the dresser needed a LOT of work. My only criticism: Smiths' should have brought sample color stains with them at the estimate. He asked me what color I wanted piece. I told him it needed to match the wood in the room (mostly oak). When the piece was finished and delivered, I was shocked at how red it was. I called him to ask why--he explained after they began work on it, they found the dresser had been treated with analine dye, a common dye in older furniture pieces. He told me once you find analine dye in the wood, there's little you can do to remove it. The stain he put on it, combined with the analine, resulted in a deep red-brown color, too red for our liking. Still, the overall job, rebuilding drawers, removing warp and water stains---impressive.
Description of Work: Removed warp, water stains, and other unsightly marks from antique dresser >75 yrs. (It had been kept in a basement in Milwaukee for years---needed serious work!) Smith's did an excellent job of removing warp, water stains, and rebuilt drawers so they slide easily, adding nice, simple wooden hardware and key locks to accent the piece's age. My only criticism: Smith's refinished the piece with a stain that was a deeper red than I would have preferred. They said it turned out more red b/c the piece already had analine dye in it. This may be true, but I would have appreciated a phone call to let me know they found the analine dye in wood to warn me it would be redder than I wanted. Smith's also recaned an antique wooden chair. Did an very nice job with the chair.
