"I am very sorry you were not happy with the services. The actual cost of your move was $634.50. and the move took 6 and 1/2 hours. That is an appropriate amount of time for a 3 bedroom home to a 2 bedroom apartment and a third stop at a storage facility. The movers (Carlos and Benjamin) have many years of moving experience. (3 years with Hawk) I have many letters from customers that compliment their service(available upon request). I am sorry you were not happy with them. As for the damages, Hawk Moving went above and beyond the contracted amount that is written in bold print on front of the contract that you initialed. Hawk Moving fully replaced the chipped glass shelves ($100.00) and sent the agreed amount for the scratch on the nightstand and replaced the missing plastic shelf spacers and pegs. Once again, I am sorry that you were not satisfied with your move."
"Thank you very much."
All I can say is this was a terrible experience. Not only was it way more expensive than we thought it was going to be, there were several pieces of my furniture that have been badly damaged.
It took over 12 hours to move which seemed crazy seeing that we were only moving into a 2200 square foot home. Not a lot of stuff so I don't think this should have taken that long to move. I think part of the reason it took so long was that the movers were trying to cram all of our stuff into a 24 foot trailer. The 2 guys showed up a little late but that was no big deal but when they did show up we were concerned about the trailer looking too small for all of our furniture. We were assured that there was plenty of room. Unfortunately there was not "plenty" of room for all of our stuff and we had to rush around on a Saturday afternoon (during Summer moving season) and rent a Uhaul trailer to move the rest of the stuff. And to add more headaches to the situation, the movers ran out of packing blankets about three quarters of the way packing their trailer. I have hardwood furniture that needs to be wrapped correctly so when they ran out of blankets, I was grabbing anything and everything I could find to wrap up my stuff. Once everything that could fit into the trailer was loaded we had to make a stop and pick up a refrigerator. Unfortunately because there were no blankets left, the stainless on the doors were scratched from the dolly straps.
It seems that part of the problem was that the trailer was too small for the job and they really needed 4 mover, not 2, to do the job correctly.
Again, this was not a good experience. I really struggled about what to do because of all the damage to my beautiful furniture. I did contact Clay a week ago about the damage and he basically argued that he had never had anyone claim damage to their furniture by his movers so to me he really didn't seem to care that it did happen. I sent pictures of some of the damage and at this point nothing has been resolved and I haven't heard back from him or the company.
Hawk Movers may be OK if you are moving a few things or a small apartment. I would suggest you find someone else if you are planning on moving more than that because they do not appear to be equipped for a full household.
UPDATE 8/26/14: After going back and forth for two months with Clay at Hawk Moving, nothing has been resolved. He refused to come in person to review the damages to my furniture. I received in mail a check for $130 claiming this should cover the damages. With several pieces of solid wood furniture gouged and my stainless refrigerator doors scratched from the dolly straps, I hardly think that I could get a creditable furniture repair company to come and fix these pieces for that amount. Unfortunately I have contacted a lawyer to take action.
"Hawk Moving appreciates feedback from our customers. First, I would like to clear up some misconceptions that may be occurring. A 24 foot trailer is standard in moving. I do not guarantee that everything can fit on the trailer, unless I schedule a visual with the client. A visual is an appointment that clients make with me, so I can take inventory of the items being moved. Movers pack trailers tightly to prevent damages. If items are packed too lightly, they can move, slide, and rattle around during transport. The client stated that her 12 hour move time was too long for a 2,200 square foot home. However, square foot size of a home is not a proper way to determine an accurate move time. The move time depends on the amount of inventory that will be moved, and how prepared the homeowner is for the move. If the movers have to pack, wrap furniture, and provide extra padding, this increases the move time. If the client had called during the move and asked for more movers, that would have been considered, depending on the availability of the other crews. When the client called me 7/17/2014 about her damages, I asked her to send me pictures of the damages. I then explained to her that I will begin to process her claims. I have 90 days to do this, according to the contract she signed. The damages on her furniture are nicks and scratches. She said she could not send me pictures of the refrigerator because they wouldn't show up in the picture. Her claims are important to us, and we will handle it in an appropriate way. I am surprised to hear that the move was terrible, because after the previous conversation I had with the client she expressed that the movers did a great job wrapping the furniture with pads and shrink wrap. Again, our customers are important to us, and we will use this feedback to continue to provide the best customer service we can."
