This is my second review and third time we have contracted Bransom Floor. Anyone with wood floors knows how important it is to have a knowledgeable contractor working on a repair or patch. The job requires experience and care. Bransom Floor performed the patch with their usual expertise. We can't say enough good things about the office staff at Bransom Floor. They went out of their way to accommodate our schedule and followed thru with every detail. In this day of less than stellar customer service, this staff is a shining star and will keep you informed on each step and will answer each question completely. Highly Recommend.

Bransom flooring is probably the most professional and competent contractor I have ever hired. Over the years I have had the need for contractors of all types. Carpenters, roofers, HVAC, ect. There is not one that I wound up as happy with as I did with Bransom Flooring. Sonny & Bo are both great to work with and both know the wood flooring trade just as professionals should. Our install was done in 2 stages and both times the work was done exactly as contracted and exactly when promised. When specific, minor issues arose, (How is that going to be installed? Can you take care of this for us?) Each time Bo would go out of his way to handle it. I can think of no better example of their service than to tell you of what I observed on the day they were finished with the downstairs install. I came home that afternoon and found them cleaning up. 2 men were in the house wiping down the floor and baseboards while a third guy was on the front lawn, where they had set their saw up, VACUUMING MY FRONT LAWN! The type of contractors I have hired in the past would have simply kicked the pile of sawdust around and explained to me "No big deal, wood is biodegradable." You will notice I gave them a B on price. This is simply to let you know they are not the cheapest. I'm not sure that is fair because I don't really think you can hire another contractor of this caliber at this price.

We bought the house and had the work done before we moved in. From the start of the transaction which was a visit to their Ft. Worth showroom to completion, the project went better than expected. They were on-time, on-budget, and their work was beautiful. The fit and finish of the flooring and trim was excellent. Great company.

The member statement simply is not true. The customer's job started on Wednesday, March 4th, the installer noticed that part of the material was not the correct size. He informed the customer we would need to get the correct material size from our distributor. We apologized for the problem and requested the correct size material from our distributor to be delivered as soon as possible. Unfortunately due to inclement weather the material could not get here until Monday, March 9th. The material arrived Monday and the job was completed by 12:30. We kept the customer informed every step of the way. We apologized several times and always remained professional. Communication is one of our priorities with our customers. We are all human and sometimes we all make mistakes. We have been in business since 1937 and pride our self in our workmanship. To us it is not about Quantity it is about Quality.

Bransom and their team is impressive. As I've written elsewhere in my reviews, I started a renovation of a 100 year old house in Ft. Worth Ryan Place in June. Early in the renovation efforts we discovered that the house had been butchered by a house flipper about 5 years ago who clearly used incompetent workmen for most all work. As a part of the "flip" the front porch was closed in, hardwood floors applied on top of the old concrete surface and other work done in the house. I'll stick to the floors. Early on, we noticed that the floor transitions from sun room to entrance hall to living room had 1-2 inch high transitions going from room to room. Each was a tripping hazard and indicative of people who didn't know what they were doing ... or ... were trying to do something fast and cheap. We also noticed that the hardwood flooring in the entry was pulling away from the concrete substrate. Demo of this floor revealed that it was laid on scraps of wood or glued directly to the old concrete surface. There was no workmanship involved. Bransom's team pulled up the balance of the entrance hall and laid a new floor on screeds which were cut at double compound angles to get the floor to line up with the living room floor (perfectly) despite the sloping concrete base. Then they hand crafted a transition piece to the sunroom floor (which we left intact) that eliminated all risk of tripping. Workmanship was superb and the installation team knew both finish carpentry and floor laying. The foreman was a true craftsman. The refinish crew spent 2 full days sanding and stripping the old finish in the entire house and re-staining with a custom color mix. Despite the amount of sanding and scraping, the house remained very clean. A second crew came in and applied 3 layers of satin finish over the next 3 days. The outcome is magnificent and worth every dollar spent. Highly recommended for any floor upgrade project. I expected a great refinishing effort. I got a great rebuilding effort as well. Will use again and recommend to anyone.
Description of Work: Complete replacement of flooring in entrance hall in order to get floor surface aligned with living room, followed by complete restoration, staining and finish in the entire house.

Their price may have not been the cheapest but the finished product seemed superior to everybody else. They seem to really know what they are doing and they did what they said. It looked like they said it was going to look. Their crews were very conscientious about following up and keeping the house clean and doing a good job. We liked at other people's products and we would recommend them for oak floors. They were all in the same ballpark regarding price; they were all within $300 of each other. They were very responsive. We would use them again.

The trouble began when Bransom arbitrarily changed from Bona/Traffic product to Duraseal/Xterra, a cheaper product that is more readily available in Fort Worth. (Bona/Traffic would have required driving to Dallas to fetch.) Further, they made a HUGE mistake and put down semi-gloss over the original three coats of Bona/Traffic satin! They said "OOPS!", they didn't double check the label on the bottle! They said, no problem, we’ll come back with another light sand and hit it with a coat of Duraseal/Xterra satin. (FIVE COATS NOW!) Since then, it’s all been pretty much down hill. They REFUSE to fix their error, which, to do correctly means sanding down to the original (brand new) wood and starting over. While this would be a very unpleasant experience for us, we now have a very shiny floor that looks like laminate. Further, the Duraseal/Xterra has yellowed very quickly within one month of application, whereas the Bona/Traffic had not, after two months. We have patiently left phone calls, sent e-mails, and corresponded, to no avail. They are completely not interested in our attempts to amicably work things out. It totally baffles me how Bransom has gotten high marks, because they rate, in my opinion, the absolute worst in customer service, customer satisfaction, lowest integrity, and flat-out dishonest work ethics. The following describes in detail what our experience has been with Bransom Floor Service: Since their mistake, the head of operations (Charlie Bransom) has screamed at me for calling around to different flooring companies desperately trying to get more information so that I could participate intelligently in the solution for this debacle THEY caused. (His repeated words "You went behind my back!") He has insulted me by telling me that any decorator would tell me that five coats is now a much, much better floor even though it now looks like the laminate that we had replaced. Charlie has been completely uncooperative, dismissive, patronizing, rude, and absolutely unwilling to step up to the now necessary way to fix their mistake. I have had this same man scream at me that I was calling him a liar when I repeatedly asked questions in an attempt to clarify contradictions. The following are the results of my independent research: First: Charlie and his people claimed that a coat of "satin" will adequately cover their erroneous coat of "semi-gloss." Not on a hand-scraped floor. The semi-gloss shine comes through. Second: Bransom insisted that there is absolutely NO difference between Bona/Traffic and Duraseal/Xterra. He insists identical hardness, transparency, sheen, and UV protection. So, I called Bona Traffic's US headquarters and talked to the technical department to confirm what my gut tells me: NO WAY! In fact, within Bona's own line-up of commercial-grade water-based products (there are at least four), NONE of them have identical sheen values in satin or hardness. Each product is measured by a gloss level - a numeric value that is universal across ALL flooring products, regardless of manufacturer. "Satin" within all of the Bona products means different things. And when compared to Duraseal/Xterra, there is also an obvious difference. (Which is why the final two coats of Duraseal/Xterra were so much more shiny than what we originally had with the Bona/Traffic Satin, never mind that they put semi-gloss over the original satin, and then hit it again with another coat of satin.) Third: Bransom contends that more coats does not affect sheen. In fact, the more coats you put on, the shinier it gets, even if the same manufacturer had been used and all five coats had been satin. Fourth: Bransom claimed the more coats, the better the floor. Not so. The more coats, the less depth is visible in the wood grain. You end up with plastic. Further, you end up at a point of diminishing returns. More coats = more plastic. (We're two people who walk barefoot in the house, no dogs, no children.) The beauty of the wood was very much why we went with hardwood in the first place, for which we willingly paid a hefty price. Not plastic. Fifth: Bransom first claimed that the floor is not discoloring in front of the south-facing glass patio door after one-month from application, although it clearly has. Then, after two months, they claimed that they should not be held accountable for the (Duraseal/Xterra) discoloration within such a short time, even though we chose the original Bona/Traffic commercial-grade, water-based product specifically because of its UV properties and never agreed to using Duraseal/Xterra. This info was gleaned after extensive time on the phone with Bona US headquarters, the Bona regional rep in Austin, and finally a VERY long conversation with a certified NWFA Wood Inspector, who was extremely helpful and educational. Since Bransom refuses to "do the right thing," (although they did a lot of chest-beating about their commitment to customer-satisfaction - NOT!), we have painfully decided to have the floor re-finished down to the wood by another highly recommended contractor at our great cost plus the cost of moving appliances, and aftermath cleaning. We will lose one-third the value of our brand-new floor, because taking the floor surface back down to the wood, through five unnecessary coats of finish, reduces the life and thickness of our floor, in order to regain the color and sheen that we had originally wanted and paid for. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ Now that the contractor has responded, I must add that he never admits to making any mistakes, which he clearly did when they put down a different product and the WRONG SHEEN. That's precisely where this whole thing went south AND where Bransom/Charlie went instantly into denial mode. That would have been the time when he should have (A) admit the mistake and (B) fix the mistake properly. By fixing properly, adding more coats repeatedly was NOT the correct solution. Further, after we hired a different contractor, at our expense, to do the right thing, they said that they were frequently called in to fix Bransom's mistakes!!!!! This is very much worth noting, if you are considering having your hardwood floors put in.
Description of Work: The original job: Initially to install a brand-new, select-grade white oak floor in kitchen, stairs, and back entry. Barn-gray, light-scrape, low-sheen satin. We looked forward to enjoying the deep beauty that only a real hard-wood floor can provide. We chose Bransom Floor Service because of their stellar and long-standing reputation in Fort Worth. One big concern was the potential for ambering (yellowing) given that there is a large south-facing glass patio door that lets in a lot of light. We agreed upon Traffic/Bona commercial-grade, water-based product because of its durability and UV properties against ambering. Their original installation went well and we were thrilled with the results. The second job: The painters caused some nominal damage to the floor with paint thinner and a bucket of water left standing. Bransom came back and gave us a Plan A fix for $340 (light sand, one satin coat) and a Plan B fix for $2658 (take everything down to the wood and start over again. Bransom and we both felt that Plan A would be perfectly adequate.

This job has to have the most unfortunate job that we have ever been involved in. We had completed our job entirely. The homeowner called and stated that painted had spilled, scuffed and nominally damaged the floor. I gave her the option of a Screen & Coat, or Re-sand and Finish the job. We aggreed that the s/c option should correct the problems. When we went out to to s/c the floor, I told her that we had some recent problems with the Bona Traffic product, and that we were using Dura Seal Xterra commericial urethane. During the procedure, my finishman applied semi-gloss, rather than satin. I told her that we would come back out first thing the next day and make it right. Prior to the s/c process, BFS did not re-do in the pantry, or under the refridgerator. I told the homeowner that the side-joint (pantry) blend would match perfectly. But the other would not, due to the fact that it was an end-joint blend. Once we were completely finished, she called back and stated that it did not blend. I inspected the job and noticed that the blend in pantry was perfect. And that there was a line under the refridgerator, due to lack of sunlight, and/or moisture from the fan motor. Before we did anything, I called and notified both manufacture representatives of my intentions. Both concurred that I was not harming the floor, nor doing anything wrong. Further, I called an independant Inspector, with National Wood Floor Association credentials to verify my assessment. BFS does warrant all of our procedures. Had I done anything wrong, I would have corrected it. BFS does not use only one type of finish, nor do we exclusively state that. We have a responsibility to have an expert knowledge of all products. By product preformance, we adjust accordingly. Apparently, the homeowner made up her mind based on a lot of untruths, and lack of product knowledge, industry practices and procedures and standards. In summation, I feel terrible that all of this has ended up like this. I returned every phone call, answered every e-mail, and did exactly what I said I was going to do. I told her that if an independant inspector could find just cause that I did anything wrong, I would accept their reccomendations. Relying on opinions from competing contractors has no basis in my opinon. BFS went above and beyond, and did everything possible to do the right thing. I am sorry that she was not pleased with the final product. We have never had a customer make these types of accusations about our practices. We continually strive for perfection in all that we do, and are very concerned about each and every job. Thank You. Charles E. Bransom, VP, Bransom Floor Service Inc.,

The entire process went very smoothly. One funny thing: because of the layout of the rooms in our little house, we could not get into the kitchen without going through the dining room. Because we were not supposed to walk on the floor once it was prepped, we decided to stay in a motel for the two nights. We didn't mind -- it was like a mini-vacation!
Description of Work: Our cottage-style house was built in 1923. Over the years, the floors in the living room and dining room had begun to sink in the spot (4' x 4') where a space heater used to be. Also, the wood floor in the living room was in terrible shape and had holes in it, in addition to the piece of plywood covering up the space heater spot. The dining room had had a new wood floor installed by a previous owner, but was no longer in good shape either. Bransom pulled up and hauled off the wall to wall carpeting in the living room, and repaired and supported the old heater area. However, the repair was not as easy as anticipated because the old floor heater was still in place under the house, so the floor had to be supported by a new beam-type system rather than being shored up from below. In addition, the crew cleaned and prepped the floors in the living and dining rooms, installed the new wood floor in the living room with wood that matched the floor in the dining room, sanded both floors, then stained, sealed, and polished them. During the 3-day process, the workers taped off the entire area with plastic during the day and took it down at night. They cleaned up after themselves each day, including sweeping the front porch which they used as a staging area. The workmen were courteous and hard-working. The crew chief was named Tito, and he and the rest of the crew were obviously very experienced. All in all, we were extremely pleased with the work and the floors look fantastic. By the way, the floor was the old-fashioned kind of wood floor that had to be laid one board at a time.

The Member requested a bid to repair a hardwood floor that was recently installed by another contractor. Upon inspection of the floor, I notice that he had adhesive in the joints as well as the face of the wood floor. I explained to him in great detail that once the adhesive was cured, there was no way to simply remove it. I told him that he had an installation warrany issue, and that the only way to get the glue off of the floor was to sand & finish the floor completely. I further explained to him that that once the adhesive had cured in the cracks, and on the face of the wood, it would not release. I offered to give him a bid to replace the floor, but he would not hear of it. His frustration was obvious at the previous contractor. And stated that he would not call upon the previous installer to correct the problem. The Member choose not to obtain a bid from Bransom Floor Service.

The new wood floor they put down looks beautiful. They matched my existing wood floors which is in the style used back 50 years ago with the 2 inch width. They made the existing wood floor look brand new. I was traveling alot during the time they did the work. I turned my keys over to them and they were totally trustworthy and professional in their work. Later when I decided to do the upstairs but didn't have the money to resand down to the bare wood and stain, I was very happy that they were able to offer me affordable alternatives. My floors are beautiful and I get comments on them from visitors. I did get another quote and Bransom was slightly higher than the other bidder. But I had used them once in another house about 15 years ago and been impressed with the job, so I decided to go with them. I wouldn't even bother to call anyone else next time. You get what you pay for and they did an excellent job and were very nice to work with.
Description of Work: I had Bransom lay a wood floor in a large family room that had previously been carpeted. i also had them sand and stain pre-existing wood floors in the entry, living room, office and dining room. A few months later I decided I wanted the upstairs wood floors to look better, but I couldn't afford a total sanding and redo. Sonny Bransom came and gave me some alternatives. I ended up having three bedrooms and a hallway lightly sanded and stained for a little over $600. This disguised the worst of the scuffs and scarring and made the floor look 100% better for a very reasonable price.

Bransom helped to find a flooring similar to what we had put down ten years ago. They started the job on time and completed the job a day earlier than they first estimated. Workers were professional and did an excellent job. It was a big job and they did their best to inconvenience us as little as possible.
Description of Work: We had a slab lead which ruined our wood floors. Bransom removed the old flooring (which they had installed about 10 years ago) and put down new wood floors. There was damage in the kitchen, breakfast area, dining room and living room so the job took about four days to complete.

They did everything just perfectly. My hardwood floors are beautiful. There was a hole in the floor of the dining room where an old heater had been. They had to add new wood there and make it match the old wood. They did a great job. They also put down shoe molding between the floor and the regular molding. The only complaint I have was that they emptied one of their dust containers in my yard and killed a 10 inch diameter section of grass. It was so minor.
Description of Work: They refinished my hardwood floors.

THEY DID WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO, FOR THE PRICE THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO IT FOR, AND IN THE TIME WITHIN WHICH THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO IT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE USED THEM AND HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE THE FIRST TIME.

A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE COMPANY BROUGHT MANY SAMPLES TO OUR HOME SO THAT WE COULD CHOSE A COLOR THAT WOULD LOOK BEST WITH THE CABINETS. THE WORKERS WERE VERY PLEASANT AND PROFESSIONAL. THE FLOOR LOOKS GREAT AND THE JOB WAS FINISHED IN THE AMOUNT OF TIME PROMISED IN THE ESTIMATE. I ESPECIALLY LIKE THE SMOOTH TRANSITIONS BETWEEN THE WOOD FLOOR AND THE CARPETED ROOMS THAT JOIN THE KITCHEN.
