A couple of months ago, we moved to a new house with a pool. We had never owned a pool before and one of my wife's co-workers recommended this company. I called them to come out and check the pool and explain some things to me. The pool we have was a salt water pool and the control panel was reading the salt cell as not working. The guy that came out pretended to clean the salt cell (as I now know) and then said it was dead and he could bring one out and change it for $750 plus $95 in labor. After he left, I looked the part up online (a Hayward T-CELL-15) and discovered it would only cost $450 for me to order myself (so they asked for a $300 or 40% markup over the retail price). Also, I watched an install video on YouTube and it's a very simple 5 minute process to screw in a new salt cell that he wanted $95 in labor for. I called the company back up and left a message to fire them. Then I ordered the salt cell myself and hired another pool company to come out and clean my pool for awhile until I got caught up on everything that needed to be done. When that new pool guy came out, I asked him if he could go ahead and change the salt cell for the one I ordered so I could watch and see if there was anything I wasn't understanding about changing one out. He said that would be fine and simple to include in the one our of service I was already paying him for. But, he said he'd try and clean the old salt cell first. So, he cleaned it and after that the salt cell control panel read a perfect output from the cell. So, not only did Beautiful Shades of Blue try to charge me almost twice as much for the part as it cost me to order myself, they only pretended to clean the salt cell (the second guy only spent a few minutes cleaning the salt cell before plugging it back in where it read a perfect output). They also tried to charge me $95 to change the salt sell when it's a simple process that takes less than 5 minutes. That is three strikes (trying to sell me a salt cell I didn't need, asking almost double what it would cost me to order the part myself, and pretending to clean the old salt cell which was really fine and just needed to actually be cleaned instead of a fake cleaning). This is actually the worst case of someone trying to rip me off that I've experienced in the last 15 years. I had to check my forehead to see if someone had written "sucker" on it.
Description of Work: Performed a 1 hour pool service. Pretended to clean a salt cell that was reading as dead (another pool company that came out later actually cleaned it and then it worked fine with a perfect output reading and still has a perfect output 1 month later). They tried to charge me 40% more than retail for a new salt cell I didn't need. And, told me it would cost $95 in labor to change out the salt cell I didn't need when it only takes 5 minutes or less to screw in a new salt cell as I now know.

Response from Beautiful Shades of Blue Pool Service Inc
[member name removed]! Thank you so much for the review! I wish you would have been 100% satisfied on the price of the pump and install. The total was $681 and $52 of that was tax. I wanted you to know I checked with 2 of competitors and received bids between $700-$800. I want to remain competitive on pricing and wanted to make sure we were within standard. Be sure to mention Angie's List the next time you call and I will give you a $20.00 discount on your next service or repair! Thank you again. We appreciate you very much! Look forward to hearing from you soon! Best Wishes.. Monica

We called Beautiful Shades of Blue because we had used them before on a recommendation and had a good experience. Our pool equipment wasn't working and we needed someone to diagnose and fix the problem. I called their number and got a message that the phone number had changed (new phone number is 817-428-8600), but I got a call right back from Monica and she had someone out the next day. He cleaned the filter, added DE, and then diagnosed the problem which was a broken 2and quot; check valve. I went to Leslie's to see if I could find the part and they could order a replacement, but just the check valve seat assembly was almost $175. It took a couple of days, but Beautiful Shades of Blue was able to find a good refurbished part for $93 and he had to come back twice, but only charged me $75 for labor, and then gave me an additional $15 courtesy discount because we were return customers. He cleaned everything up and got the pool and spa equipment working. Would hire again.
Description of Work: Filter cleaning, added DE, diagnosed problem, replaced 2" check valve seat assembly, 2" check valve spring, 2" check valve end cap, 2" check valve end cap O-ring. Found parts for us at a substantial discount, came to the house 3 times to complete repairs.

I had a prior pool service that was 'finding' multiple things wrong with my pool and (over) charging me each week. I called Beautiful Shades of Blue Pool Service and they came out and found that for the latest 'major' repair, I simply needed to small parts replaced. They also re-cleaned my pool even though my prior service had been there the day before...but it didn't look like it. They then took over my weekly service and so far we have been delighted!
Description of Work: Researched potential problem and then started weekly service
