Patrick McCoy is a very nice man but he simply does not spend enough time supervising his workers. I asked him to darken the kitchen cabinets and he gave me a couple of samples that I didn't care for. I asked about gel stain and he provided a sample that I liked. We immediately had problems with the gel coat peeling off. When I complained to his workers, they explained that we never should have used gel stain. The painter told me, ?When we heard you wanted gel stain we all said, ?What?!?! You can only use gel stain on new cabinets with virgin wood!? It is the responsibility of the painting professional to advise and offer guidance to his clients. Patrick failed to advise against the use of gel stain. Village stained all of the cabinets throughout the house including the the front door and as you can see, it is just peeling off. It does not appear that the surfaces were prepped properly. After they applied the polyurethane coat on the cabinets I noticed drips on the granite counter tops. There were even rings of polyurethane on the counter tops where they had set down the can without bothering to cover the counter tops. I had to ask Patrick to send his workers to come back to clean their mess. Patrick was angered by the carelessness of his workers but he continued to be absent while his workers were here. I had Village paint all of the walls and the trim throughout the house. As you can see by the photos, the paint is peeling off of these surfaces. Also, the painters were very sloppy. There was paint on the windows and door knobs and other surfaces where they were just careless. Their lines were not clean. I really felt like, ?If I wanted mediocre results, I could have done it myself.? The reason I hired professional painters was because I wanted professional looking work. When we had Patrick come back to show him our concerns, he always acted as though it looked just fine. He either did not see the sloppy work or he felt that it was good enough. They did come back and touch up some of their sloppy work but we had to ask several times and they always seemed annoyed with us; it was very uncomfortable. I had Village darken all of the bathroom cabinets. However, as you can see in the photo, they were very sloppy. Stain dripped onto the floor and the workers must not have noticed. There were so many issues like this that I ended up just focusing on the bigger issues and fixed these things myself. Village also painted the ceiling. I specifically asked Patrick to have his workers remove the old HVAC registers before painting the ceiling; they did not. I was replacing all of the old registers and wasn't sure if they would be the same size. When the new registers were installed, they were smaller than the old and there was a visible border of unpainted surface around the new registers. I asked Patrick to send his painters back to remove the HVAC registers and repaint. His workers were visibly annoyed with me and they refused to remove the registers. Instead they painted around the new registers. Another thing that was so annoying was that it took them so long to get the job done. The house was empty for two months but they did not complete the work before we had to move in. Once we moved in it became very difficult to get work completed. Patrick would ask, ?When would be a good time to come finish up?? I wanted to reply, ?How about last month when the house was empty?? Finally, I would complain that I never got a receipt for the work. When I requested a receipt, Patrick sent me the original estimate of the work. I texted and emailed Patrick at least a dozen times, but Patrick never responded. I still do not have a receipt from Village Professional Painters.
Description of Work: Stain cabinets throughout house and front door. Paint and texture ceiling, walls.

This project was done almost a year ago and at that time we experiencing major growth in the company. With major growth there are growing pains. Since then we have hired a project manager and administrative help to oversee all production to make sure all of our projects go smoothly. We are committed to providing the best quality and service to our customers. As far as the peeling paint. [member name removed] insisted on using a low VOC paint and stain. We explained, to manufacture low VOC paint, the materials extracted from the product are what gives the paint its durability. We explained that with children and pets in the house the finished product would be more vulnerable to chipping and peeling. Also, we did use a jell stain on the cabinets in which [member name removed] insisted on using a water base clear coat instead of oil base. We again explained that jell stains are designed to have an oil base clear coat only but again he insisted o the water base to eliminate the VOC. I agree that this was not the smoothest project and I apologize to the Covarrubias for any inconvenience. That is why we have increased our support staff to assure this does not happen again. Patrick was very helpful in helping me choose paint colors. His painters were prompt and did a very good job. They were very clean and completed the large job in a day and a half. I would use their services again! Their price was very reasonable.

It went as the owner promised. Good job and the 2 painters, Eddie and Michael, were pros.
Description of Work: I had my rotten and very tired trim replaced with hardie board trim and painted. The owner, Patrick was professional and very customer oriented. His painters were real pros and stayed on task the entire time here. I was very pleased with the final product and the cost was fair. I will use them again.

The service was pretty good overall. I would recommend them! They did a good job on all the trim on the house. However, they used a flat-based paint instead of an oil-based paint on my metal doors, so next time I would make sure to ask about that paint.

It was a great experience and overall was flawless. Will let my family and friends know about this company and will use for our rental homes as well.
Description of Work: We called Village Professional Painters due to a friend's advise of using them. They had performed work for our mutual friends and they thought they did a great job! We decided after speaking with the owner and him assisting us in color choices we would use them. Great decision on our part! They scraped the old popcorn off the ceilings throughout the home (approx 7 rooms) - they then removed old wallpaper, primed and painted the rooms. They did an excellent job! The most impressive thing was how clean this crew was. They spent several hours cleaning up the areas and did a walk through with us to make sure we were happy. DO use this company - you won't regret it. The owner is fantastic and always eager to make the customer happy. We will be using them this summer for more painting on the outside as well!

They did a great job with my spare bedroom, but not my master bedroom. I gave them the wrong color and they even repainted the spare bedroom for $100 extra. When it came to the master bedroom, they dropped the ball. Several spots were not painted thouroghly. The trim was not painted well in areas as well. They got wall paint on the trim. They dripped paint onto the floor, curtain and other things. On the exterior they tracked paint across my deck and spilled paint on some pavers and didn't thoroughly clean it up. Some of the carpentry work they did was OK. They attempted to do some other carpentry work which had to be partially redone. (The level of this particular carpentry work was beyond their expertise.) I told them, "I'll just finish the rest myself." Finally, I explained to the owner the problems I had and walked him through them. He sent a painter right out and I had to walk through it again (I didn't like that. I thought that was owner's job at that point) He didn't do a good job repainting the problems and the owner didn't follow up. I would only hire these guys again for an empty rental property. The detail work may be a little too much for them, but they are nice guys.
Description of Work: Village Pro Painters were very nice, but we all know that doesn't cut it. They painted 2 bedrooms (spare and master) and a master bath. The painters were very polite. They painted from ceiling to floor on the interior and painted everything on the exterior. It was 3 painters. Two started painting the interior while one prepared the exterior. They caulked, power-washed the exterior and sanded.

Called to ask vendor to come out for an estimate on an interior painting job because of ad that said $500 for 2 rooms of painting (or something similar). He did not dispute the ad over the phone, but when he showed up at our house, he said the ad was a mistake and that Angie's List was supposed to take it off. We talked more, and then he finished the conversation by saying he would do both rooms for $1500. Two comments: I place this negative experience squarely on Angie's List, and here's why: 1. You did not make sure your vendor was willing to stand by the ad. 2. You tolerate a high number of negative statements and a high number of vendor disputes. 3. On another note, I also got estimates for other projects and had good experiences with vendors on estimates for different work.
Description of Work: No work performed.

Response from Village Pro Painters
We at Village Professional Painters completely dispute this report from the customer based on the fact that it is not at all accurate or complete. We are advertising on Angie's List painting for $500.00 dollars. However it is very clear that for $500.00 you receive two painters for 1 days worth of labor. Materials are not included. What the customer failed to report was that the scope of work she wanted would have taken over two days to complete plus the cost of materials. What she also failed to report was that we gave her two estimates. One to honor the add and what could be completed in a days work and one to complete the entire projected desired. There was no error on either Angie's List or our part because the add is very clear. We are very proud to be a reliable, quality driven vendor for Angie's List. However we have had a few bumps in the road lately. This can be contributed to the fact we experienced a huge growth last year of over 25%. And though Angie's List has played a big role in the growth we experienced, the major factor that contributed in our growth came from previous customers and referrals from previous customers. You do not experience that kind of growth especially in this type of economy with out doing things right. However with this type of growth comes growing pains. I want to assure all our past and future Angie's List customers that we have made the changes necessary to handle the growth we are experiencing. Our goal is to assure that we are providing the highest quality and customer service that won us the Super Service award from Angie's List in 2011.

I couldn't be happier with Patrick McCoy and Village Pro Painters. I definitely made the right choice when I hired them! Before I hired Patrick, I put some really bad color choices on my walls and was in a panic about what I had done to my own home. It looked so bad, and the colors disagreed with me so much, that I actually felt anxious in my own home, as well as embarrassed. I called Village Pro Painters and spoke to Patrick. First thing out of the chute, he said all the right things and was very calming. He explained that it's not uncommon for homeowners to make those kinds of mistakes. He explained that various lighting, fabrics, and floor coverings can make a paint color look one way on the strip and another way in a homeowner's room. He also said that paint strips are not actually paint so the strip colors can reflect light differently than the actual paint that eventually goes on the walls. He also explained that his company provides free Color Consultations with every job, prior to putting paint on the walls, in order to avoid just the sort of thing I had done. That helped alleviate my embarrassment and calmed me down. But I still needed to fix my mistakes. With Thanksgiving right around the corner and company coming, I was desparate for some last-minute help. Naturally, with Village Pro's excellent reputation, Patrick was all booked up through to Thanksgiving. But he jumped through hoops to find a way to help me out. I'm so grateful! The crew he sent was amazing! In our initial conversation, I told Patrick I'd be more than willing to pay a premium to get this work done before Thanksgiving. But he didn't charge me a premium at all -- even though I offered several times. That's good, honest work. He could easily have taken advantage of me -- but he didn't. From my first phone call, to the completion of his 'rescue mission,' which all happened in the span of 4 whirlwind days (2 to coordinate and put paint samples on the walls & 2 to paint), Patrick communicated very clearly, was very approachable, handled all questions with grace, showed up on time for every single meeting, answered all calls promptly, and was extremely professional in every regard. He used Sherwin Williams Super Paint. He recommended really great colors that are warm and soothing. He came over the day after our initial conversation, painted some sample colors in different places on my walls, and advised me to view them at various times of the day and night, to ensure maximum happiness with my choices. I liked one of the sample colors a lot, and chose that one for several rooms, but I asked Patrick some questions about two other colors on the same strip. He gave me excellent advice in every regard; I followed his advice; and I now love my beautiful, warm, inviting colors! I can't recommend Patrick McCoy and Village Pro Painters enough. This was a very positive experience. Patrick told me several times that his business is not just about putting paint on the walls -- it's about serving the customer. And boy, does he live by that motto! He provides top-notch customer service, handled this anxious customer with ease and grace, and left me with several gorgeous walls that blend perfectly with my existing home colors. Kudos to Patrick. I joined Angie's List for the purpose of picking the best-of-the-best out of the crowd of service providers. I hit the jackpot when I found Patrick and Village Pro Painters.

I referred this painter to someone and Patrick showed up at the time he stated. He said he would have the estimate ready that same night. He never did call. This person finally called him the following Tuesday and he said he would again have it that evening and he never did call. Today is Thursday. That person will never use his company and neither will I.

All of our estimates are sent electronically not via phone call. We recommended that they inspected their spam box. We sent the estimate twice and after the final time asked them to call us if they do not get it. We could print out a copy and drop it off. We followed up with a phone call but was unable to reach the client. Never heard from them again.

My wife met Patrick at a business seminar. She had mentioned our house needed to be painted and he should come by and take a look. Patrick called me and we scheduled a meet at the house. We walked through all of the stages of the work to be done. I showed him some of the trim issues that we had on the rear of the house, which he said they could take care of as well. The real bonus in the deal was his patience in helping us decide on a color. I think he came out to our house 2 or 3 times to paint swatches on the garage door for us to review. We finally picked a color, and they came out on probably the hottest day of the summer to paint. Overall, the finished job was great. They did a good job on the carpentry work, the paint looks fabulous. Cleanup could have been a little bit better, but overall a really good job on the house. I've had several neighbors comment on it. We also had some repair work done inside the house. We had a water leak which created some sheetrock damage. They came in, assessed the damage and did a fantastic job blending the new texture in with the existing texture. You can't even tell it was done. We will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Powerwash, prep and paint the exterior of our home, including some light carpentry repair. They also did some texture repair work on a few walls for us indoors.

I highly recommend them! Patrick was fantastic! From the beginning he was patient yet persistant with me. He kept following up with me through my busiest days. He worked with me on scheduling the job and even delayed the job when I needed him to. His prices were very competitive. But the best part about it was the quality of the work they performed - it was awesome! He even painted the garage door which I was not expecting. A very sweet surprise! Overall, I would definately recommend Village Pro to anyone.

Very professional owner. Went the extra mile in helping me with color choice and providing me with solutions for an older home. There were some delays in completion, mostly due to weather, but that was to be expected at the time of year. I was disappointed in the quality of the preperation, but my discover was only after the painting had actually begun. The owner apologized and tried to make things right. In the future, I will try to get a better understanding of my expectations of quality and request that I have a review between prep and beginning of actual painting.

There was lack of communication once I accepted the bid. Obviously, exterior painting is dependent on weather conditions. But I felt there could have been a call alerting me to possible completion date of job ahead of me. I ended up calling them. Was told they would probably be here the next day. Thanks for the warning, fellas. The salesman said I did not have to be here for him to color match my trim. I assumed he would use a "fan" of paint samples at my home. What he did was take a recently installed elbow from my guttering and matched that. I noticed the elbow missing and bought another thinking something mysterious had happened to the first. The new guttering was NOT the beige shade I wanted. I wanted more the taupe beige I had already painted the garage doors. NO COMMUNICATION. With six gables and four dormers, painting my trim is not a simple job. Was not happy with the quality of power washing. My contract called for caulking and spot priming. No priming whatsoever was done though I felt areas of chimney and dormers needed it. Caulking was not adequate in areas. Two man crew was polite and added more when I asked. If I had not been there monitoring things, they would have sprayed the canned light housing on front porch. When seeking bids, I expressed concern for my gutters; I wanted ladder braces used so it leaned against the roof, not gutters. Crew did not have braces but finally did buy one to quiet me. They did try to cover with paper and tape areas that would be difficult to spray. But three areas still got over spray. My patio has stereo speakers. The crew did remove the speakers but responded with irritation when I said brackets had to be removed, too. A large area by front porch would not have been done at all had I not been checking things. The crew did clean up well after themselves. But, today, this senior citizen is going to get out a ladder and extension pole and try to touch up areas that were not done right. I should not have to be doing that. The sales person should call me on completion and ask if I was happy with their work. Better yet, SHOW UP.

My name is Patrick McCoy and I am the owner of Village Professional Painters. Though we are disappointed in the comments of the member, we are not surprised. She was one of the most difficult clients we have had in a while. From the moment our crew arrived to start the project, the member began micro managing them. She would sit out front and watch them with binoculars making very difficult to do their jobs. Our policy is that no project will begin until our clients have approved any colors. The member was informed by me that the elbo joint would be used to create a color match and she approved that. Not once did she comment about the color to us until this report. Unfotunately because I have many responsibilities, it is not feasible for me to be on every job site every day. However each job site does have a project manager that is more than able to answer any questions or address any concerns our clients may have. And If for some reason a client deams in necessary for me to visit their project, I am more than happy to accomidate them. Again we are disappointed we could not meet the member expectations, however it is our understanding the roofing company she used before us had many of the same challenges. We provided her with the same quality and service as we have, and will continue to provide, with all of our valued Angies List clients. Patrick McCoy Village Professional Painters

From top-to-bottom they were great. They were very nice, able to come out to give a quote on the same day and very punctual. We also got a nice detailed quote via email. His pricing was close to his competitors, but ended up choosing someone else because they offered a 20% Angies List discount; which he was not able to match.

Great company. Pat was easy to work with. The crew also seemed honest and ethical. Would definetly hire again. I opted for the more expensive paint called "Duration." This drove up my estimate about $400.00 . I figure it was worth the money if I never have to paint again. Will have to wait and see if "Duration" lives up to its claims.

My experience with this company was good. They showed up when they said they were going to. I had a lot of work done in the house and a lot of people didn’t show up when they said they were going to. They were good at adjusting the colors. If I saw anything that I did not like they were very good to rectify it, like for the exterior they had to come back a second time and patch some areas. Dependability, cost and quality of the workmanship were some of the qualities I would recommend about this company. I would use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used the services of Village Pro Painters. The last time I used their services was last month. They painted most of our interiors and all of our exterior. I spent $3900 for the work done.

The owner gave us the best quote by far and he came over last minute on a Saturday. He thoroughly listened to all our needs. He got the work going right away within a couple of days. His crew was professional and courteous. I wish they would have cleaned up the paint chips that were laying everywhere and got into our pool but other than that I would use them again and recommend them.
Description of Work: Exterior prep work, repair wood, and paint.

They did a wonderful job and our neighbors referred them to us. I would use them in a minute. They were very neat and courteous and when they were done they checked back with us to see if there was anything they had missed. I am thinking of painting the interior and I will be calling them and no one else.
Description of Work: They did exterior painting on the trim and the house. They caulked the windows and primed them as well. We did get quotes from 3 other places and they were appropriately priced.

They were very good until the end. I would talk to them again but not sure I would use them again. When they left at the end they left a mess and they cut the phone line since they could not get the phone off. I have a vintage phone and they could not get it off the wall so they cut the line and I had to take the phone to get it repaired. The work they did was beautiful. The people were very nice, responsive and they were trustworthy. If I were to repaint the rest of the house I would call them for a bid.
Description of Work: They scraped a popcorn ceiling and repainted it.
