Randy was contacted by my insurance company late in the day on a Tuesday. He called me immediately afterward and we scheduled for the next morning at 10:30. Randy, a Master Plumber, arrived at the appointed time with his two sons, both Journeyman Plumbers. They went right to work, with the eldest son going down into the crawl space under my pier-and-beam house to locate all leaks that might have contributed to substructure rot underneath my two bathrooms, with the younger son assisting Randy in tracking down the path of my sewer line. They found leaks from the shower in one bathroom, from the lavatory in another, and from a combined main drain for the kitchen sink and clothes washer. In order to perform the next stage of their investigation, they installed a sewer clean-out port where the the sewage outflow pipe comes out from under the house, right next to the front porch. [It runs directly under a boxwood bush, and Randy recommended that I pull the shrub out soon because the roots will eventually damage the pipe and create an expensive repair issue.] They then were able to perform a "flow test" to see how much water was being lost through each of the leaks. The kitchen sink / washer leak was sending more than half the water from the drain straight onto the ground under the house. (!) Randy and his sons were very professional, very personable, very thorough, and very meticulous. When I was gushing thanks to him for his great work, Randy said, "Plumbing is about helping people; that's the reason I do what I do." And his philosophy was evident in his - and his sons' - actions all day long. My insurance may have covered the cost of his labor today, but I'll be calling on Randy for any future plumbing issues.
