We have not engaged Peerless yet, though we are leaning towards them.
Description of Work: I asked for an estimate regarding an upgrade of our electrical service from 125 to 200 amps, replacement of the main and sub panels (currently maxed out) and bringing our system up to code. Dave Roachelle, the service manager, came out to do the estimate. He listened to my concerns, evaluated our current setup and assured me that he would develop an appropriate plan of attack. He later called me to clarify one issue so he could finalize the bid, which he subsequently forwarded by e-mail. He was not at all put off either by my wish to secure another bid, nor by my statement that I had to find the funds first. All in all he represented his company extremely well. I can see why Peerless has so many positive reviews on Angie's List. Way to Go!!

I emailed detailed information including a couple pictures to help describe the complexity of the work and received a response from Dave Roachelle early the next morning. He quoted a fair price of $900 for the work that we discussed for nearly 10 minutes. At the end of the call, Dave surprised me by volunteering that manufacturer's specs are not always appropriate for every circumstance and therefore possibly no immediate need to replace the circuit. I was going to ask him for this information, but he kindly beat me to it. I'm not sure which direction I will take, but I am very grateful to the company for their information and consideration. I've worked 9 years in the HVAC supplies industry and have worked with hundreds of mechanical and electrical contractors so I know how very rare it is to find a company that, as a rule, will put their customer's needs ahead of their need to earn a decent living.
Description of Work: Needed a 30 Amp circuit upgraded to a 40 Amp according to manufacturer's specifications for a new appliance. Replacing the existing wiring would require removing a section of kitchen cabinets to gain access to the wall where the wire would need to be run. Very difficult job.

Of all the work completed, probably the most challenging part of the job was installing the overhead light in the room with no existing light source. Due to the structure of the house, the attic access is above the second floor (at approx. 18 feet height), but there is a steep drop from the attic space to the space above the room in question which is on the first floor (10 foot high ceiling). Another electrician in the past suggested cutting a hole in the garage ceiling, which is next to this room and then crawling into the space above it (a little too drastic in my opinion). Reed on the other hand was confident that he could do it without taking such drastic measures. He came very early in the morning on the scheduled day to get the attic work done before it got hot. While I was skeptical that a light could be installed in the room at all, Reed worked efficiently and confidently to get the task done. During the process, he checked to make sure many times that I was satisfied with the location of the lights/switches. All work areas were left clean. Reed also did not mind doing a couple of extra things that were not part of what was agreed upon originally so the final cost was naturally higher than the first estimate. We were very pleased with the service and quality of the work.
Description of Work: Work included installing a light in the pantry with light switch, installing an overhead light in a room where there was no light source and rewiring the existing switch to control it, installing a ceiling fan and rewiring a couple of switches.

It took about three hours to get all the work done. He fully assembled the fans and installed them. He was a very pleasant individual to have at my house. The hardware store sold me a fan that was missing a part; I did not feel uncomfortable leaving him alone in my home to install the other fans while I ran back to get the missing part. I was very pleased with him and his work.
Description of Work: Al Torres replaced two old ceiling fans with two new ones. He also ran wires in a room without a fixture and installed a new ceiling fan. Finally, he replaced a light switch that was malfunctioning.

THE CUSTOMERS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WAS WITH THE CFI CIRCUIT. AS USUAL WE TRIED TO DIRECT HER TO THE RESET BUTTON OVER THE TELEPHONE. WHEN THE CUSTOMER WAS UNABLE TO FIND AND RESET THE GFI, SHE ASKED FOR US TO COME OUT AND MAKE THE "REPAIR". SO WE SENT THE NEXT AVAILABLE ELECTRICIAN TO HER HOME. OUR ELECTRICIAN AL FOUND THE GFI IN THE GARAGE AND RESET THE DEVICE, THEN HE TESTED THE UNIT TO MAKE SURE IT WORKED CORRECTLY IN CASE IT NEEDED A REPLACEMENT.THE GFI AND OUTLETS AND CIRCUIT BREAKER WERE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION. THE INVOICE CHARGES WERE AS FOLLOWS- LABOR $116.25. SERVICE CALL FEE $42.00 TAX 0. INVOICE TOTAL $158.25. THE DFW AREA IS SO LARGE THAT WE MUST CHARGE FOR DRIVE TIME ONE WAY TO EACH JOB. WE TRY TO SCHEDULE OUR WORK TO MINIMIZE DRIVE TIME BUT WE DON'T ALWAYS SUCCEED. WITH THE HIGH COST OF TRANSPORTATION WE ALSO ADD THE SERVICE CALL FEE. WE ARE SORRY THAT THE MEMBER TOOK OFFENSE WITH OUR CHARGES, WE TRY TO EXPLAIN OR RATE AND FEES TO EACH NEW CUSTOMER. AND WE DID TRY (FOR FREE) TO HELP OVER THE PHONE.

Both were done exactly as described. Both of the men that came were very friendly and knew what they were doing. My husband even talked to them about some remodeling of a bathroom and moving of some electrical fixtures, they gave good ideas and we were pleased with the pleasantness of the service call! We will use them again!

Peerless Electric lived up to their excellent reputation. When I first contacted the company, I left a voice mail explaining my problem. David Roachelle, the Service Manager, called me back within the hour and arranged to come the next day to look at my problem. Since I had never dealt with an electrician before, I was totally out of my element. Mr. Roachelle was very professional and reassuring and also very patient about explaining exactly what needed to be done. He gave me a ballpark figure on what the job would cost but said he would email me with a definite amount. The email detailed what each part of the job would cost. We set up a time for the work to be done the next week. Daniel, the electrician, was also very professional, courteous, and thorough. He arrived about 8:30am and worked all day leaving about 3:00. He only took about 30 min. for lunch. He thoroughly cleaned the work area before he left. He did a great job.
Description of Work: Change out electrical panel with a main breaker 24/30 circuit panel with a new ground rod and wire. Add new microwave oven circuit and rework wiring to attic vent fan motor and switch. Add circuit from new electric panel to sump pump.

I e-mailed the manager one evening and received a call the next day. David came to the house, evaluating the situation, providing an estimate the following day. A date was scheduled. Al arrive a little late due to traffic. All went well until the slant of the ceiling required a different set of materials than the owner had supplied. The contractors continued to work while the owner went to a home improvement store twice trying to purchase the proper equipment. The contractors had completed all that could be done until the correct materials were purchased. Al agreed to buy the correct can lighting if it could be purchased. He agreed to make the purchase and to return to complete the project. Al and Danny work well together. They were both respectful and explained what they were doing and what change had to be made.
Description of Work: Install new wiring at back, then install 4 motion detector lights. Remove 4 old lights and replace with 4 can lights. Spot check receptacles throughout home. Switch wiring on double switches to match room placement. Supplies appropriate cans for 2 of the lights.

I called Peerless and spoke with Dave Roachelle, their service manager. After describing the problem (I thought there might be a safety issue), Dave told me he could send someone out late that evening or early the next morning. He was true to his word sending Al out to perform safety checks. It turned out to be a very good thing that these checks were performed. Al said there were signs of potentially dangerous receptacles. Al patiently explained the problems and made suggestions at my request for what could be done in the future to improve our electrical circuits. Dave the service manager, called the next day to check on our satisfaction. We were very pleased by the willingness of this company to send an electrician on very short notice to examine our kitchen and dining room receptacles on such short notice. We were also pleased by their sensitivity to providing customer satisfaction.
Description of Work: Kitchen and dining room outlets were not working. "Al" troubleshot outlets and found lost neutral in circuit, checked panel & tightened neutral lugs in panel panel; several were loose. Pulled receptacles in dining room and tightened neutrals. Also checked microwave plug; plug and voltage was OK.

The estimate for this work was $300, and over the phone I had discussed installing 2 exterior sconces, but decided to do these myself. They went almost two times their estimate on less work than discussed. I asked the electrician when he presented the bill if it took longer than expected, and he said it had actually gone faster. After complaining about the discrepancy, they took 10% off. I also had to make 2 trips to Home Depot to get parts for the job, even after specifically asking them to walk through and determine exactly what was needed before starting any work. They also left pieces of wiring laying everywhere they worked in the house. The assistant made racist comments.

OUR ESTIMATE OVER THE TELEPHONE FOR $300, WAS TO REPAIR 3 LIGHT SWITCHES AND TO ADD ONE EIGHT FOOT GROUND ROD. WITH ONE ELECTRICIAN AND HELPER WE REPAIRED 12 LIGHT SWITCHES (3-WAY AND 4-WAY)AND ADDED GROUND RODS AND GROUND WIRE TO TWO SEPARATE ELECTRICAL PANELS ON THE HOME. ALSO REMOVED AND INSPECTED WIRING TO FRONT PORCH LIGHT FIXTURE. WE ARE NOT SURE WHAT COMMENT WE MADE OFFENDED THE HOME OWNER. WE DO APOLOGIZE FOR ANY OFFENSE.

Very well. I could not reach these outdoor lights, and my backyard was dark at night. Now we can see where we are going. It took a bit longer than I expected, but he was very pleasant and got the job done. I was surprised we had to pay a service call fee of $45 when we had work done. I would think the fee would be only if an estimate was given and no work done. I was not told about the $45 extra when the estimate was given.

James showed up right on time. He got right to work on removing the existing ceiling fan. I helped where I could to try to speed up the process (and I like to learn). The fan took about an hour to remove and replace with new. Then James pretty much worked alone in replacing the exterior light fixtures. He did a great job except he accidentally dropped one of the pieces of glass enclosing the light, so I'm having to buy an extra fixture to get a replacement piece of glass.

I had to schedule two weeks out, but it was not an emergency so I didn't mind waiting. James called when he was on his way, and arrived as scheduled. He was very personable and showed me his "electrician's trick" to installing a fixture where the incoming and outgoing screws need to utilize the same holes (cutting the head off the screw and using a nut.) It was a pleasant experience, and I can understand why this company is so busy! The only problem I had was that I forgot to use the coupon :-(

He called me back the next day and said he could be here between 10 and 11. Around 9:30 the service man called and asked if it would be ok to come early. He checked the rooms and the breaker box and everything was working. He told me that something that was plugged into the circuit breaker was causing it to trip. He was conscientious about getting here as quickly as he could and was well qualified. He didn't charge me and told me that if anything else happened I could call him. Fantastic service and qualifications.
